Just ‘Cause: Younha covers SNSD

Recently KPOP artist Younha did a great little acoustic cover of SNSD’s ‘Gee’.

Sure, this version of the song may make it lose some of it’s cute, catchy appeal but its still a great twist on a well known song.

‘Gee’ is starting to remind me of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella‘, with everyone and their mother covering the song.

Worst Ever: Davichi’s Lyric Writers

Korean KPOP group Davichi is one of those talented, slighly underrated groups that have the skills but not quite the infectious star quality that so many lesser talented succesful singers have. Yea, reading that back it made no sense but whatever.

Anyways, I generally enjoy their songs. They aren’t really amazing but definitely enjoyable. Their newest song is no different… that is until you get to the English parts and it makes you think “Wait, WTF are they saying?”

You see… it’s complete and utter gibberish. Like taking something and running it through google translator and using that as your final version. What’s even worse, they chose to highlight the English in their music video.

“You got feel my man”

“I got you not a friend, gonna be you be cry”

Sure, whatever you say. I think Bi must have wrote their lyrics.

WTF: Jin x Sphere of Influence – Yo Yo Ma MV

After missing a week due to my escapades in China, we’re back again with another Weekly Thursday Freebie.

This time we bring to you a pretty decent collaboration between Jin and Japanese MC Sphere of Influence from a couple years back. It’s nothing earth shattering but a cool song/music video that showcases an international collabo.

As always, feel free to view it on youtube first before deciding to waste precious minutes downloading.

Still interested? Link to DL after the break.

With so much news about so many different KPOP artists attempting to cross over to the US simultaneously I decided it’s best to group it all together and let you read it yourselves. AKA I’m lazy and actually a bit over saturated by the whole fad.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled lives.

Utada Hikaru Myspace Karoake Competition

I’m a little late on this but Utada Hikaru & Myspace have teamed up to host an ongoing karoake competition through May 11th.

Check out the details courtesy of Ningin:

Myspace Karaoke page fans can submit recordings of themselves singing the album’s lead single “Come Back To Me” until May 11, 2009, when Utada will select the winner herself. What’s the prize? The grand prize winner gets a trip to Japan with three friends, and their own chance to hang out with Utada herself and have a Karaoke session together! Second prize winner gets an Utada gift bag, while the third prize winners get autographed albums.

Personally I’m a big fan of the single ‘Come Back to Me’. Don’t forget, the album releases May 12th! Also head over to the product page on Amazon for an exclusive behind the music peek at the album.

Manifest, Lyricks, Gedankenstrich – Stamps MV released

Recently Manifest & Lyricks travelled to Switzerland to do a show. During some of their down time they put together a new single and video with a group called Gedankenstrich (Line of Thought).

It’s great to see them go international and rip it with some European MC’s. The track and video are pretty simple but straight Hip-Hop. Not as hot as ‘One of the Best‘ but still good stuff.

The video editing/direction definitely has Lyrick’s fingerprints all over it. His style is pretty defined at this point.

David Choi x Wong Fu present ‘Wont Even Start’ MV

David Choi & Wong Fu Productions have teamed up to bring you DC’s first ever music video. Sure David has had a TON of youtube videos, but never an official one. This MV was premiered this past weekend at an event and is now available to all.

The song is ‘Wont Even Start’ from David’s latest album, Only You.

All in all, it’s a clean, enjoyable video. Props to Lana McKissack, she did a commendable job acting.

PS, it was cool seeing all the WongFu merchandise. I think I just might have to order a tee now.

Kollaboration NY releases promo video

Kollaboration NY, scheduled for June 27th, is approaching and thus the organizers have released a promo video of some of the artists performing Neyo’s single ‘Closer’.

The video features Vudoo Soul, Taiyo Na, Magnetic North, Alfa, G*LEE, Marie Choi, SiC and Cinemascope Films

It was a cool concept but pales a bit in comparison to the one done by the original Kollaboration group late last yr.
