a-Tunes News: GT on Vacation

2coq7t1[1]

Wassup a-Tunes readers!?

So one of the downsides of running a blog w/ a one person team is that when things come up, theres no one else to cover. I’m going on a much needed vacation starting today through early next week so updates will likely be few and far between.

Thanks for understanding and I’ll see you all when I get back! Peace out suckas! In n Out here I come!

Jaebeom x Local Seattle News

So, I’ve refrained from writing about Korean-American Jaebeom leaving (being forced out of?) KPOP 2PM and all the drama that followed. While I do admit it was a rather large and complex ordeal, I think nearly every aspect of the situation is rediculously blown out of proportion, including everyone’s reactions to the group.

But I saw this little clip on OMGKPOP where a local news station in Washington actually covered the story..

What really caught my attention was how someone in his house was poking through the blinds and immediately shut them when they realized they were being filmed.

Regardless who was wrong or right, or what happened, it sucks to have to deal with consequences under a microscope.

Big Phony Releases Upcoming Album Art & Preview Track

Acoustic artist Big Phony has released the album art to his upcoming album ‘Kicking Punching Bags’.

As you can see, the tracklisting is also available. If you want to hear a new cut from the album, head on over to BP’s Myspace to check out ‘Short Intermission’. There’s no hardset release date yet but we’ll keep you posted when it’s announced!

Rook Spits Verse From Jail

Rook, who has been behind bars some time now, wants to make sure everyone knows he hasn’t lost a thing. A recording of him spitting a verse over the phone has been posted to his myspace. Given the situation, the quality is understandably pretty bad but Rook still demonstrates he’s hungry and won’t stop till he reaches the top.

Good to hear from the guy. Hope he gets out soon.

Showdown: Gabe Bondoc vs Jenny Suk x AJ Rafael vs Sam Ock

It’s time for another SHOWDOWN!

This time I’ve come across numerous covers of an original song by Gabe Bondoc entitled “Gentleman Don’t”.

It’s great to see asian artists giving other asian artists props and covering each other songs. So who do you think did the gentleman most proud?

The Original: Gabe Bondoc

Jenny Suk x AJ Rafael

Sam Ock

Personally I though the Jenny/AJ collab had the most potential for an interesting dynamic but was ultimately the most rough around the edges. I loved Sam’s instrumentation but in the end I thought Gabe did his own song best. Props to Gabe on such a great song. What do you guys think?

FM x MTV’s ABDC

Just as we reported, last night’s finale of America’s Best Dance Crew went down and FM’s Girls On the Dance Floor was chosen for a showcase featuring all the finalist crews.

What a huge placement! That combined with the great dance routine made for an epic moment in music history. Congrats FM!

JL Releases ‘United’ Featuring Manifest

qss3z7[1]

JL tweeted about a new track w/ Manifest entitled ‘United’. You can check it out on his myspace. If you haven’t been paying attention to this dude, you should start now. This track is RAW, no joke.

Well, I guess it should be since he pretty much gaurenteed it. Both MC’s killed it here. Things are shaping up real nice for JL.

Peep my new track from my upcoming mixtape called United ft. Manifest(Produced by DParis)DP got them Ill joints!! www.myspace.com/jl757

Paul Dateh Performs ‘Control’

To be honest, I like this rendition much more than the album cut. It’s a lot more raw and the stripped down instrumental sounds great. Ken Belcher was great on the guitar too.

I’m feeling these youtube unplugged sessions Paul has been doing. Makes me appreciate his music even more.

FR3SH Interview w/ SeoulBeats

The NJ based crew FR3SH, most recently seen on this past season of America’s Best Dance Crew, sat down for an interview with Ellie of SeoulBeats. The interview goes for breadth over depth so a wide range of topics are discussed.

I wasn’t able to catch them on TV, but this crew was eliminated very early on, with viewers almost unanimously preclaiming their depature as premature. Regardless, they were successful in shining a light to east-coast based dance crews in a show so heavily dominated by west coasters.

It’s a good watch so make sure you check it out.
