How to Collab w/ dumbfoundead!

Sorry folks, this one’s for the children… but if you’re 18 and under then here’s your chance to drop a track featuring the Grind Time battle sensation dumbfoundead.

Think you got what it takes? Then peep the details below:

You only TRULY have that which you can give away.

I’m fortunate to receive messages from fans all over the world and a lot of them seem to be aspiring musicians so I thought I’d have a contest as a way to give back.

The contest is my way of showing love for all those that have supported me. I just want to provide the same type of opportunity that a lot of Los Angeles legends blessed me with when I was a young artist trying to come up.

Contest

1. Download the instrumental from the link above
2. Record your original song to the track
3. Submit your track to funwithdumb@gmail.com

Rules

1. Participants MUST be 18 or UNDER
2. All submissions MUST be in by Nov 20, 2009
3. Be creative!
(Don’t be afraid to think! – We want creative concepts)

Prize

1. Contestant wins TripMaster Monk’s beat
2. Dumbfoundead will collaborate, on the winning song.

Winner will be notified and announced on my channel.

Wonder Girls (finally) Get Some US Radio Play

The Wonder Girls are reportedly finally getting some US radio airplay. They are currently in rotation at 18 top 40 stations around the country. There are 167 top 40 stations in total, so it’s really not that many as of right now but it’s a start!

Of the 167 ‘Top40 Radio Stations’ located throughout major U.S. cities, their U.S. debut single ‘Nobody’ has entered the rotation playlists of 18 stations. A song which goes on the rotation list will play at least once or twice a week for a month.

From what we’ve seen so far, we expect to see them enter more rotation playlists and their airplay ranking to increase.”

According to an airplay analysis chart by music website Mediabase, ‘Nobody’ was played over 65 times by radio stations between October 12 to 18 to increase the group’s airplay ranking by 16 spots from the previous week to No. 107.

Will this event become a minor footnote in music history or the start of something big for Asians in the North American music market? Hard to say but you can show your support by calling up your local top 40 station and requesting they add ‘Nobody‘ to the rotation!

Congrats to the WG, we hope to see (and hear) more of you.

PS… If you ordered a WG CD, it looks like they’ve started shipping. The owner of Bump This! has gotten hers already!

Critic’s Corner: Mia Kim – Who Is Sukey Rose?

2mri99t[2]

Mia Kim is an alt pop-rock singer/songwriter with whom I was completely unfamiliar with until her management reached out to me in regards to her sophomore album release ‘Who Is Sukey Rose?’.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect especially since you don’t see the words asian, female, and rock all in the same description too often. Produced by Jason Martin (of Starflyer 59), it was clear Mia had some decent backing with this project. What’s most interesting is that the album was fan funded as she was able to raise $8K to put this album together. So the question remains, is Sukey Rose worth it?

Find out after the jump!

Johnnyphlo x James Ha NY Chuseok Performance Released

Johnnyphlo has posted up the footage from his performance at the NY Chuseok Festival last month. The set features Philly r&b singer/body beatbox phenom James Ha on the last song.

Looks like it was a great event and it’s awesome to see JP invited back as a guest performer when only a year ago he performed as a contestant for JYP at the same festival.

FM Releases ‘Party Animal’ Remix

Check the new remix of FM’s single ‘Animal’ from the album of the same name. It’s entitled ‘Party Animal’.

From their website:

We linked up with some of the illest electro producers/remixers from Italy called The Cyberpunkers for an official remix to our song “ANIMAL”.

This song will be released on upcoming Far East Movement mixtape (Mixed by DJ VIRMAN) titled “PARTY ANIMAL” which will be available on November 5th, first date of the Party Rock Tour (featuring FM, LMFAO, Shwayze, Paradiso Girls, Space Cowboy and more) and will be available at all the tour cities and online along with limited edition PARTY ANIMAL tee shirts made specifically for the tour. This special mixtape will feature a bunch of unreleased new FM songs and collaborations for you to rock out to until we finish our new album that we’re in the studio working on with the Stereotypes. Will be the biggest FM album yet…

This one has an even more electronic sound, with some heavy synth action going on. Depending on my mood, I may like this more than original. How about you?
