Quest Crew to Feature in MVs for Snoop Dogg & Baby Bash x Pitbull

So I came across this news via our good friends at ChannelAPA and it looks like things just won’t stop for the guys of Quest Dance Crew. They’ve gone from winning ABDC to now being featured in TWO upcoming music videos.

One video is for legendery west coast rapper Snoop Dogg for his upcoming “Malice in Wonderland” album.

The other video is for an upcoming track entitled ‘Outta Control’ by Baby Bash x Pitbull. Luckily you can catch some of the action in a video preview.

Congrats to Quest for these awesome placements. These guys deserve the shine.

Marie Digby Covers Owl City’s “Fireflies”; Hits 200K Subscribers; Going on Tour

I really like her interpretation of it (though not as much as David Choi’s version).  She puts an almost folksy, dream like spin to it.

I was introduced to this Owl City song by a friend .. we blasted it while driving down the streets of l.a with the windows down and it was perfect… this is my little ol’ cover of it. Oh, and you should check out my friend chief wakil’s remix of this as well … youtube.com/chiefwakil
I am going out on tour in about a week and would love to see you all while I’m out and about the country !!

But in addition to the new video, Ms Digby has announced that she has hit 200K Subscribers on Youtube! A great milestone.

Today I hit 200k subscribers !! thank you SOO much to everyone who has ever listened and watched :) I hope to keep making videos that will entertain you or brighten your day even if it only lasts about 3 minutes.. lol

And not only can people watch her online but they can now catch her live as she embarks on a 10 stop nation-wide tour. So make sure to catch her show if you’re in any of the following areas!

Tila Tequila Filing Lawsuit against Shawne Merriman

Some of you may recall the story that Tila was allegedly assaulted by NFL San Diego Chargers player Shawne Merriman.  Well the he said/she said battle has escalated with Tila now filing formal charges.

Here’s the scoop from AAM:

The latest news in the saga between Tila Tequila and San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman… Tequila (it pains me to write that) has filed a lawsuit against Merriman alleging domestic violence: Tequila files suit vs. Merriman.

Merriman was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in September after Tequila, aka Tila Nguyen, signed a citizen’s arrest warrant accusing him of battery and false imprisonment at his suburban home. Merriman was never charged.

Tequila, who is seeking $1.5 million in damages, is alleging assault, battery, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress:

Tequila, whose real name is Tila Ngyuen, alleges assault, battery, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

She said that when she tried to leave his house, Merriman grabbed her by her arms. When she tried to break free, Merriman shook her like a rag doll, the suit said.

Merriman threw her onto a couch, hurting her neck, jaw and back, then choked her until she almost passed out, the suit alleges.

Tequila said in the lawsuit that Merriman had a short temper, used drugs and humiliated her because of her bisexuality.

The lawsuit includes two exhibits of photos, including photos purporting to show bruises on Tequila’s arms and neck.

Merriman said he was trying to keep Tequila from leaving his home because she appeared to be intoxicated, and denied harming her.

After three days of reviewing sheriff’s reports, the district attorney determined there was insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime was committed. Thus, I guess Ms. Nguyen is now trying to get Merriman where it hurts — his bank account.

Lyrics Born Interview w/ Beyond Race Magazine

BRM has got a great interview w/ Bay Area MC, Lyrics Born. It’s seriously a must-read as everything from his race, to his influences, to the birth of his son is discussed. Here’s one quote that hade me particularly interested:

You’ve mentioned a little discrimination towards you because of your race in earlier interviews, can you elaborate on that?

There was a point where…and I say this not to complain, I say this matter-of-factly because it does exist. I’m a very optimistic person and I see things changing every day. But, I gotta call it how I see it. If you’re selling hundreds of thousands of records independently. You’re selling out a 150 to 200 dates a year, domestically and internationally. You have the number one song on commercial radio. You’re just clearly good at what you do…and I still can’t get on a cover of a magazine? It became very frustrating for me when I see people around me working with far less and being given far more. I just see it as how it is right now and not how it’s going to be later.

Make sure you check out the rest over at BRM!

Misnomer(s) Release Performance Highlight Reel

It’s cool to see some more live footage of the duo. They are definitely active on their home front. They have an organic old school hip-hop kinda vibe about them though I’d like to hear them switch things up now and then (kinda like Knewdles collab w/ Bridget Barkan). A lot of their material sounds similar. But props to them for doing their thing. Especialy that Target ad, awesome placement!

On a side note, I just realized these girls are maaaad skinny, especially Knewdles. haha

L. Scatterbrain Interview w/ ChannelAPA

Continuing with there interview series with some of the people behind the Asian Hip-Hop Summit, the good folks at ChannelAPA bring you a quick session with L. Scatterbrain.

It ain’t too long but it gives you a glimpse into who one of the possibly lesser known staples of the summit is and why he’s here to represent.

In case you missed it, here are the channelAPA interviews w/ dumbfoundead & lyraflip as well.

Showdown: Lydia Paek vs Kris Mark x Kinh Nguyen x CP Phan x Matt Clores

So there’s an obscure song called ‘Heartbreak’ by a little known artist named Kanye. I don’t know if any of you may have heard it since it was only played… on every radio station every minute of the day for like a year but anyways for this episode of Showdown we have Lydia Paek (of Quest/Boxcuttuhz fame) in one corner and Kris Mark, Kinh Nguyen, CP Phan, & Matt Clores in the other.

Lydia Paek

Kris Mark x Kinh Nguyen x CP Phan x Matt Clores

So who do you think flipped the song better?

*Just a note, Lydia talks for a few minutes before the clip starts but I set it to start when she sings. Feel free to listen to what she had to say by moving the cursor back to the start.

J. Reyez Releases Mini MV for ‘Brighter’

J. Reyez has dropped a new video. At a little over a minute it doesn’t give you a lot to watch, but what is there is pretty solid. Tracks good and visuals are on point. I’m feeling this one though I wonder if a full track is going to drop anytime soon. JR’s recent videos have been coming out real clean.
