Sam Ock Covers ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’

Sam Ock has shared his latest cover, this  time it’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and being that it’s Christmas Eve we thought it’d be fitting to post up. Sam once again puts on his crooner hat and sounds great as always.

And, in the spirit of giving, he’s also offered it as a free dl!

BP & Odds Release ‘The Plan’ MV

The Plan is one of my favorite songs off there ‘The Medium‘ album but I was a little bored with this video after a while. I like how they showed how they cut things up and worked in the studio but it got a bit repetitive after a couple minutes. Either way it’s a dope song and I’m glad they are making a push in promoting it.

This duo makes such a great time. I’m loving their clean, boom-bap, underground throwback type of style.

Kina Grannis & Family Cover ‘White Christmas’

With just a couple more days before Christmas, Kina Grannis has posted up a new Youtube video, this time featuring her sisters and herself doing an acapella cover of ‘White Christmas’.

I had no idea there was so much talent in the Grannis clan. Their harmonies were so tight and their rendition was truly beautiful.

As a bonus, Kina is also offering a christmas song for free download called ‘I Know Who Took the Milk and Cookies’.

Seriously Releases TWO Music Videos and an Interview w/ EMT

It’s a big news day for the band Seriously as they dropped not one, but TWO brand new music video versions for their popular recently released single ‘Immaculate Addiction’. It doesnt end there, Ellie of AAtheory/Seoulbeats has posted up her recent interview with the group as well!

Here’s version 1 of their video:

SERIOUSLY “Immaculate Addiction” MV by Ralph Agrarap (FIDM)

And now version 2:

SERIOUSLY “Immaculate Addiction” by Katie Mead (FIDM)

Personally I’m feeling the 2nd version by Katie Mead much more. While both MV’s are similar in tone and style, Katie’s version makes the retro stylistic choices seem much more deliberate and planned than Ralph’s version, which seemed more accidental. I have no clue whether or not either situation is true but I def enjoyed Katie’s version more.

Lastly, here is the interview they had with Ellie! It’s a silly/fun watch =)

Just ‘Cause: Tiny Hip-Hop Dance Star

Came across this gem over at AngryAsianMan. Similar to the video of the kid playing a ukelele, this one’s all about the youth. This youngster’s got some moves and he ain’t afraid to show em off. I gotta say I’m impressed. Closest thing I can do to dance is an easy level of DDR.

Someone cast him in a music video quick!

New David Choi Single – ‘That Girl’ Now Available

David Choi‘s latest single ‘That Girl’ is officially available via digital download. You can head on over to iTunes or my preferred mp3 store of choice, Amazon, to get it. David first shared this song on Youtube nearly 3 years ago which you can watch below.

So what can you expect from the official single now that it’s finally out? It’s much more polished. Obviously since this isnt a one time take via youtube, the production values are much richer and the instrumentation/arrangement is more thorough.

I’m feeling this single a lot more compared to many of the songs from this debut album, ‘Only You‘. There’s just a little more energy and thats a good thing because its something some his official recordings could use.

Lookin’ Back: The Top 10 Asian American Tracks From The Decade

2009 is quickling coming to an end and as part of my guest blogging gig at mtv IGGY I was asked to compile a list highlighting what I considered the top 10 tracks of the past decade by Asian Amercan artists. It took a lot of debate and even now I’m not 100% satisfied with my list by regardless I stand by it. This is just a repost of the mtv IGGY article with some minor edits but without further ado I present to you my Top 10 Asian American Tracks From The Decade.

Let me start off this list by saying it was nearly impossible to try and pick my top 10 favorite songs by Asian American artists from the past 10 years. One reason being, I didn’t really follow the scene heavily until a couple years into the decade and even then the pickings were a bit slim at the time. Also, I’ve opted to go for my personal favorite songs that have stood the test of time, and not just the most influential. Keep in mind this is a list of top 10 songs, not artists. That would have been a similar but still different list altogether. Lastly, I’ve decided to stick strictly with Asian-American artists meaning UK import Jay Sean didn’t make the cut despite how much I love ‘Down’. All I can say is, it’s been really exciting to see more and more Asian American artists make a name for themselves in the industry and I can only imagine next decade’s top 10 will be exponentially more difficult to sort out. As with any list there’s going to be some consensus and some disagreement but without further ado I present to you my top 10 from 2000 to 2009.

Read on for the list!

afterschoolspecial Covers ‘Speechless’ by Lady Gaga

I’m a few days late in posting this up but Hip-Hop/Alternative band has put up their cover of the Lady Gaga song, ‘Speechless’. This is really one of the best performances I’ve heard from their female vocalist Jaime, as delivers a perfectly fitting vocal. It’s kind of refreshing to hear this kind type of stripped down arrangement from them. They’ve adapted well to the unplugged style.
