WTF: Jin – Merry X’Mas Mixtape

Happy new year everyone! Sorry we missed last week (I’m sure you can forgive us since it was New Year’s Eve), but we wanted to make sure we started 2010 right and not miss the first Weekly Thursday Freebie.

As I’m sure many of you know, American born Chinese MC Jin has been doing his thing over in Hong Kong for the past few years, and doing it BIG might I add. True this is a few week’s after the fact but towards the end of last year he dropped a FREE mixtape in the spirit of Christmas. (Shoutout to ARW for posting it up!)

Just a warning, the mixtape is almost exclusively in Chinese. But if you ever wondered how the language sounded in rap you should check it out regardless!

He spits over a lot of famous beats by artists like the Black Eyed Peas, Kanye, Drake, Asher Roth, etc. As I said, I know this release ain’t for everyone but you gotta at least be curious right?! Haha….

Paul Dateh x Ken Belcher Release EPK For ‘The Good Life’ EP

It’s a few months after the EP’s release but Paul & Ken have released an electronic press kit video for ‘The Good Life‘. They give some insight as to how the album came to be, the story behind the concept, and how it stretched them to grow musically. They break down each track so if you haven’t heard any of it and were considering buying it you can check it out here!

Illmillion Releases New Single – ‘She Let Me Down’

Illmillion, you may remember this young hip-hop artist from the huge collab track, ‘Bedrock’ remix. On that track I thought he had one of the stronger contributions and was pretty intrigued when I found out he just released a new single called ‘She Let Me Down’.

So how’s the track? I have mixed feelings on it and I imagine it’ll split the audience as well. The production’s pretty nice and Ill does his best Drake/Weezy impression but there in lies the song’s biggest fault. It comes off kind of copy cat but I have to admit it’s mildly catchy.

The whole auto-tune movement had me on the fence from the get go so it’s expected that I’m somewhat lukewarm to a track done completely through that effect. Though I’m sure some of you will love it. Either way, I’m looking foward to what else this kid’s got in store for us.

Chops Music Featured on the 2010 CBS People’s Choice Awards!

This is HUGE. Veteran producer Chops has worked his magic and gotten numerous placements in the 2010 People’s Choice Awards that took place last night. His beats served as the back drop for many moments and even got Queen Latifah dancing a little bit (check the video at 1:50).

a-Tunes extends an enthusiastic congratulations to Chops. His music just played all night on prime time TV. He’s been paying his dues and he’s off to an amazing start in 2010. Well deserved!

Passion x Leejay Abucayan Cover R&B/Pop’s Greatest Singers

Passion teams up with vocal percussionist/beatboxer Leejay Abucayan for an incredible medley of r&b hits. They keep things simple and make it an unplugged performance and completely rip it. Talent like this is not common. I think it’d be awesome to see them do something like this live as the feed off the energy of the audience.

Twas a pleasure having my buddy Leejay Abucayan over at the LSTC studio tonight. This is a medley of songs that we enjoy listening to and thought you would enjoy it as well! :) I call it the midnight medley because we literally started trying to record this around midnight. :) Happy New Year Everyone!
