Kina Grannis Covers Crawl by Chris Brown

Kina Grannis is one of those artists that is consistently on point, whether she’s singing her original material or covering a song. She continues the hot streak with this beautifully subdued cover of the r&b hit ‘Crawl’ by Chris Brown.

I just love the tone of her voice. She has an almost country twang that adds a great quality without overdoing it.

The director of great music video’s such as Deep Foundation’s “Sleep” ft Jay Legaspi & the upcoming video for FM’s “I Party” ft IZ, Choz is definitely putting his unique stamp on the game. AznRaps has just released an indepth interview with him and it’s a definite recommended read.

Scott Yoshimoto x Casey Nishizu x Emily Yoshihara Cover ‘Down’

If you’re still digging Jay Sean’s hit song ‘Down’ then you may interested in this new cover by the group Request Line (composed of Scott Yoshimoto, Casey Nishizu, Emily Yoshihara. I can gaurentee you haven’t heard a version like this. As for me, I wasn’t feeling it too much… they flipped the track into a gentle adult contemporary pop/rock version but I’m sure some of you will like it. I will say their voices do blend well together. It’s like the Carpenters for the new generation.

Anyways it’s also available as a free download so click away!

Jazsapiens Release Free Mixtape – “Elevator Music”

The experimental Hip-Hop group Jazsapiens have dropped a new mixtape that intends to expand people’s perception of what Hip-Hop is and where it came from. To read more on their inspiration behind the project check out their information page on the mixtape.

The feel of this mixtape, as you may already know, is very jazzy.

We decided to take this route, because we believe jazz is one of the roots of hip-hop, and doing this acts as a subliminal message of tracing back to the unique origins of our music, blending these roots with the branches of modernity.

I haven’t heard all of it but so far it’s some real smooth, jazzy hip-hop, similar to what a lot of underground cats were doing a couple years back in Korea. Here’s the tracklist (note: Dumbfoundead is featured on one of the tracks!):

  1. Elevator Music
  2. Jazzercise 1 – Do The Jazsapient
  3. Identity [Formation]
  4. Survival of the Sickest ft. Ego
  5. T.o.Y. Solders ft. Mint
  6. Concept [Re-Formation] ft. DJ eMpTy
  7. To The Sea, To The Sky
  8. Jazzercise 2 – Shake Dat J-Azz
  9. Starving Artist ft. Dumbfoundead
  10. Player
  11. Culture Shock ft Tier2 & DJ eMpTy
  12. Definitive Cool ft Mint & Obi Juan of Sunfloweer Samurai
  13. Flowers by the Sidewalk
  14. Sidewalk Letters
  15. Awakening [Trans-formation]
  16. Elevator Stop

Tiffany x Jessica of SNSD Interview w/ Soompi

The two Korean-American members of the huge mega-hit girl group SNSD (aka Girl’s Generation) had a recent interview w/ Soompi.com.

They discussed a lot about their childhood and growing up in training to be the next hopeful star and how it’s impacted their lives since exploding onto the pop music scene. They also talk about what it’s like to be Korean Americans in the KPOP world and what it took to adjust between the two similar but ultimately different cultures.

On a random note, Jessica has a higher voice than I expected… but I still got a small crush on her.

You can catch the full interview after the jump or head on over to Soompi for the goods.

Crown J Leaks New Single “Baby By Me” Remix feat Big Kuntry King

Crown J wants to show the world he’s still on his grind and has leaked a new remix to ‘Baby By Me’ originally by 50 Cent x Ne-Yo. I can’t hate his beat selection since the original was hittin’ but maybe I’m being harsh but I thought Crown’s part was kinda weak. On the other hand Big Kuntry King had that geniune country swag and added some flava to the track.

I’m kinda lukewarm to this one. But that’s just me. What do you guys think?

Sam Tsui Does It Again Via Lady Gaga

Remember Sam Tsui? The guy who did that crazy multi-track Michael Jackson medley? Well he’s got another youtube hit but this time he chose to mix together a bunch of Lady Gaga songs. He kept it simple this time, only one vocal and a guitar accompaniment .

But what can I say? The dude kills it. He’s got great range and even though it’s all kind of theater (Hey, you can’t deny one’s roots) it’s still a great interpretation of some electro-pop hits. In case you were wondering what songs he sang they are: ‘Just Dance’, ‘Bad Romance’, ‘Love Game’, ‘Paparazzi’, ‘Poker Face’.
