Sam Ock x Esna Yoon Release Another Collab Cover
They cover the song ‘Beauty for Ashes’ by group Shane & Shane (whom if you’re familiar with, you’ll know that’s no easy task). Their rendition takes a little while to get going but by the halfway point they really start laying into it and all I can say is, it may not be perfect but it’s raw and real. At first I almost stopped watching cause I was bored, but just give them time and let it breathe and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed either.
afterschoolspecial Interview w/ ChannelAPA
It’s only a few minutes long but they announce a couplew juicy news worthy items including their upcoming joint collaboration between them, Wong Fu and Paul Dateh. That sounds like an awesome project and I can’t wait for it to drop. They said end of March time frame.
2010 is gonna be a great year for the scene!
Paul Dateh x Ken Belcher Perform ‘Without You Here’
This was one of my favorite songs from Paul’s self titled album. It’s an emotionally charged number and I can appreciate the fact that he’s pouring his heart out through his music. Ken’s guitar playing really helps set the tone, making this an incredible jam video.
Lyrics are the jump.
Worst Ever: The Game, Twitter, and 2PM
Bet you never thought you’d see US rapper The Game, Twitter, and KPOP group 2PM in the same headline did you?
I saw this over at AngryAsianMan earlier today. Although it doesn’t really piss me off the incident makes me shake my head and sigh. Check out what he recently said on twitter when he decided to retweet a trending topic regarding 2PM and Jaebeom:
“#RT기 다릴게 박재범 기다릴게 2PM dont kno what dis trendin topic is or means but I like shrimp fried rice alot & smokin makes my eyes tight so I RT’d it”

I’m a fan of Game’s music but this was such a poor attempt at humor, especially on a public forum. I don’t believe the guy had any ill intent, rather he just isn’t aware of the insensitivity of his statement. At the end of the day it boils down to ignorance. Either way he inadvertendly helped support the cause for Jaebeom to a ton of his followers haha.
Clara Chung Interview at Inspire 2010
Similar to the interview with Sam Ock, the Inspire 2010 team chatted it up with Clara Chung about a lot of different topics.
It’s great to hear the girl outside the context of a youtube video, as she talks about how big a part music plays in her life among other things. Also, wait for the cameo from Mike Whang of Tthe Nehemiah Band as he’s able to evoke some major “googly” eyes from Clara by bringing up a hypothetical date with John Mayer. The girl seems down to earth and this interview helps one appreciate her music all that much more.
Lilian Bui Releases Her 3rd and 4th Original Songs
Lilian Bui, who’s been releasing her original songs in a series on Youtube is now at her 3rd and 4th pieces.
One of the tracks is called ‘Up’:
This song was inspired by Disney Pixar’s animated feature Up. I am a huge fan of this movie for a plethora of reasons! Also, I’d like to dedicate this little ditty to the most “badazz” person I know, a Mr. Henry “Badazz” Pham. You are my inspiration and so much more. (^^^)
Next is a track is called ‘Under the Painted Sky’:
Here is the next original song. I ended up writing this while sitting in my kitchen a snowy day in Maryland. The lyrics are inspired by days I’ve spent wandering around the city by myself observing everything around me. I hope you enjoy!
I’m really digging this girl’s style. She keeps things simple and charming. She makes nice choices for her instrumentation. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the songs!
Lyrics for both songs after the jump.
Cool Calm Pete & Dumbfoundead Featured in Club Culture Magazine
Check the spread for the feature Club Culture Magazine did on Cool Calm Pete & Dumbfoundead.
I can read Korean though my comprehension ain’t so sharp but either way just know that they were talking about the two in the context of the R-16 Festival held in Korea. Congrats to the two very talented artists for the feature!
From Wikipedia:
R-16 Korea is an annual international b-boy tournament and urban arts cultural festival sponsored primarily by the Korea Tourism Organization and the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The main event features sixteen B-Boy crews representing fifteen countries competing in a two day tournament for world championship titles in two categories: best crew performance and best crew battle.
The festival features graffiti artists, street wear designers, musical performers and dancers who specialize in hip-hop, popping, locking and other urban arts subcultures from South Korea and other countries.
Created and produced by Cartel Creative, R-16 is a celebration of the creative energy behind urban youth culture. Based on a theme of “Respect” (which is what the “R” in R-16 refers to), the tournament and festivals were first held in 2007 in the city of Seoul. The 2008 event took place in the city of Suwon and the 2009 event host is the Metropolitan City of Incheon. The event will continue annually, as the the Hip Hop culture has recognized South Korean b-boys as a special part of its history.
BLYSS Covers ‘Do You Remember’ by Jay Sean
BLYSS (Jasmine Rafael, Jenny Suk, & Cathy Nguyen… Kat Badar sat this one out) is back with a new cover. They cover the infectious tune ‘Do You Remember’ originally by Jay Sean x Sean Paul x Lil Jon. They opted to leave out the raps but kept the sweet pop melodies intact. I enjoyed this one more than their last cover, and look forward to seeing them continue to improve as a group. I felt like they could have had more fun with it but that’s just me.
Akademikz x Eric Cha x Kyoung x Kato Perform Remix of ‘Swagga Like Us’
Kato recently posted up this performance from the Atlanta New Year Festival featuring the Akademikz, Eric Cha, and Kyoung as well. I think Kato had one of the stronger performances but it was cool to see one of the MC’s keep it international and spit a verse in Korean. ‘Swagga Like Us’ is a hard song to live up but I ain’t mad at this one. The studio version is a bit more crisp so if you’re interested you can grab that here.
