Jesse Barrera Unveils the Making of the “Tangled Up” MV

You can now view footage from the making of the music video for Jesse Barrera’s single “Tangled Up” from his upcoming album Love in Technicolor. Watch as he takes you behind the scenes of the MV, shot at the famous Santa Monica pier. From the looks of it, the video will likely be a fun, sunny, don’t-you-wish-you-were-in-California type of video. I can’t wait till it drops.

WTF: Phil Good – I’m In Love

Wassup folks? Sorry for missing last week, things were crazy busy but  we’re back with another Weekly Thursday Freebie.

This one’s a throwback from a few years back by R&B artist Phil Good. He’s hasn’t been very active lately (at least on a public, online level) though I’ve heard some new material second hand. This guy is an incredible singer with a soulful voice and in the middle part of last decade he dropped an honest, beautiful song simple titled “I’m In Love”. One listen and I think you’ll be won over as a fan too. I’m not completely sure what he’s up to now, or if he plans to start releasing more music soon. It really is a shame his music is rare and hard to find.

So with that I hope you can enjoy this short, simple, and sweet sample of the singer known as Phil Good.

You can find the DL link after the jump!

The Far East Movement Interview on EMT

a-Tunes friend and blogger Ellie of AATheory had the opportunity to interview the one and only Far East Movement! It’s a fun clip and an entertaining watch as they go over various topics. Ever wonder how J Spliff broke the news of his music career to his parents? Which member is a fan of Taylor Swift? Who are their favorite KPOP stars? Then this segment is for you. Just a warning, the audio quality is pretty awful. It’s audible but it’s just not clear.

Marié Digby, Clara Chung, and Sam Hart to Perform Together in San Diego

Luminence, an event held at UCSD to promote Asian American Talent is holding their next event on the 28th of April. This one will feature Marie Digby along with recent Kollaboration winner Clara Chung and Sam Hart (aka the Mario Kart Love Song guy). It looks like it’s gonna be a fresh, acoustic event, so if you’re in the San Diego area, definitely clear your calendar for that day! You can find out more at the facebook event page.

She may have had a little bit of help from YouTube, but Marié Digby has a talent all her own. After her cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” went viral, Digby continued to showcase her skills in such hits as “Say it Again,” “Stupid for You,” and “Breathing Underwater.”

We’re also featuring Clara Chung in this very special Luminance. Clara recently won 1st place at the 10th Kollaboration competition. She does an impressive cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” and is sure to blow you away with her powerful vocals.

Sam Hart under the YouTube name blinktwice4y captivated viewers with his “Mario Kart Love Song” hitting over 4 million views. This humorous and talented singer-songwriter is sure to entertain.

“Luminance is created to provide a new stage for Asian American musicians. The goal is to illuminate creative talent that has always been here but never acknowledged in mainstream media. Only very recently have we seen a wonderful growing presence of Asian American talent through free online media outlets such as YouTube and BlogTV. Through these outlets, Asian Americans sitting in front of their computers screens are finally able to identify with faces that are still never seen on TV or radio. The millions upon millions of viewers, supporters, and fans for these artists show that the talent and desire for them to be seen is there. Music industry heads just need to eventually recognize this. Which is why The Loft is proud to help this movement with Luminance by opening the computer screen barrier and bringing them live to UC San Diego.”

Jennifer Chung, AJ Rafael, and Jenny Suk Interviewed for CalTV

Wow, it seems like there’s a lot of interview news for us to post up today, and this definitely isn’t the last one but if you’re a fan of youtube staples Jennifer Chung, AJ Rafael, or Jenny Suk then you should check out this segment of them on CalTV, UC Berkeley’s Online TV station. (Editor’s Note: Once upon a time, many years ago, I applied and was rejected by UC Berkeley, but I’m not bitter… those bastards…)

Gotta appreciate the love California’s got for their native stars!

Just ‘Cause: PK Interviewed by Dumbfoundead

Comedian/Kollaboration founder PK spoke for a few minutes with Dumbfoundead behind the scenes at Kollaboration 10. The event, in it’s 10th year, is the last one with PK as the lead director behind the reigns as he moves on to focus on his comedy career. Kollaboration has been one of the most influential, highly regarded events for promoting asian-american talent as it’s grown and expanded to 10 (count em, TEN) cities.

We at a-Tunes wish him the best in his endeavors and want to extend our gratitude for his contributions to the movement.

Kina Grannis Interview w/ Girls by Design

The awesomely talented Kina Grannis has got a new interview up, this time with Girls by Design. It’s a quick one, so no worries. You can read it in full at either GBD or after the break =).

Jason Yang Covers FF XIII Theme Songs

I’m really feeling Jason Yang’s sheer ear for instrumentation and arrangement. Check out this short video of him laying down tracks David Choi/Sam Ock/Paul Dateh style, and combining them all to recreate some of the theme music from the recently released Final Fantasy XIII. I personally have yet to play the game but I imagine many of you have and should be able to recognize Jason’s cover. The guy is pure raw talent as he learned it all by ear.

Just a short cover of Final Fantasy 13′s Main Theme & Battle Theme. Hope you’re having as much fun with the game as I am!

Credits for the original: Nobuo Uematsu, arranged by Arnold Morrison. Mr. Uematsu, if I ever have the honor of having you see this video, I just want to tell you that you’re amazing!

If you’re looking for sheet music, I’m sorry but I don’t have any for you – I learned it by ear and half of it was improvised anyway.

Cathy Nguyen x Randolph Sing a 4 Song Medley

Cathy Nguyen and Randolph make an incredible team, laying down a great acoustic r&b groove of a medley of 4 songs. You can hear Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings”, Alicia Keys’ “Empire Staty of Mind Pt II”, Jason Derulo’s “Whatcha Say”, and B.O.B x Bruno Mars’ “Nothin on You”. The medley itself didn’t have the smoothest transitions but individually I liked every song they sang except “Whatcha Say”. Randolph’s got an impressive falsetto. I just wished they had a little more fun with it, there are times where they show some goofy charm, especially in the bloopers, but there are a lot of duller moments throughout as well.

Trixx x Lil Crazed x IBU Release ‘I Should Be Ur Man’

Frequent collaborative youtube musicians Trixx, Lil Crazed, and IBU have dropped a new r&b/rap song and music video called ‘I Should Be Ur Man’. On paper I was expecting to enjoy this song more than I did. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just a bit generic. It’s got a solid commercial sound but they seem to take one too many pages out of the ‘Young Money school of rap’ book. Many of the lines are borderline corny/clever. Personally I just thought the sum was less then it’s parts. But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

If you’re liking this, you can download the track for free here.
