Just ‘Cause: AATheory Tackles Racism with Project CSTT

Our good friend Ellie over at AATheory is spearheading a project to shed some light on racism and how the vast majority of us have experienced the effects of this unnecessary prejudice. She’s created something called Project CSTT, which is something like PostSecret but with a very specific focus. Here’s a clip of her explaining the entire effort:

If you’re interested in getting involved then here’s how:

Remember, if its a negative experience, please dont forget to write Change The Theory/CTT at the end of the experience. If its a positive one, please write Spread The Theory/STT.

Showdown: Esna Yoon vs Clara Chung

Welcome a-Tunes readers. It’s time for another showdown and this time it’s match up of Southern Californian female Korean-American artists Esna Yoon and Clara Chung. They each do their own unique/quirky spin on the Lady Gaga mega hit ‘Bad Romance’. Each rendition/video has it’s own charm but the question here is which one did you like better? Check them both out below.

Esna Yoon

Clara Chung

Honestly I think this is tough one! I like both versions a lot because neither was boring or played out. Both of these girls are so talented but regardless, vote away!

Blue Scholars Drop Remix Video for ‘Paul Valéry’

The Blue Scholars, who released their single ‘Paul Valery’ just a couple weeks ago have also released a remix music video for the song featuring a mixture of footage including some from the very song they sampled, ‘Fireflies’. It’s a cool, arty companion to the track and it certainly matches the vibe of the track.

Last week we released the track ‘Paul Valery‘ and we’re happy that it got such a huge response. Sampling a track that took its style from another track was, well, our version of being forward.  Futuristic, if you will.

Going with the theme that “The Future is not what it used to be”, it inspired us to create a video montage of the song – a visual remix.

Get into your Future and check the video.

Jenny Hyun Is Angry at the Music Industry

Jenny Hyun, a talented singer in her own right, has posted up a video where she goes off on the current state of the music industry and the lack of Asian representation in the market. The rant seems to be fueled by some kind of personal matter but despite her flamboyant frustration she does touch upon some valid points. As an artist trying to make it, I can understand why she’s venting in such a manner though I’m not sure it’s the most effective way to solve anything. She’s been doing this for years though, so the woman deserves a chance to speak her mind.

Erika David x JRA Cover Train’s “Hey Soul Sister”

We’ve got another new cover of ‘Hey Soul Sister’ for you courtesy of R&B singers Erika David and JRA.

I was really liking this simple because it was so refreshing to hear an R&B spin on this acoustic rock song. This pair has pretty good vocal chemistry and their voices blend really well together. I hope they collab a lot more in the future. This is definitely one of my favorite covers of the song. Too bad it dropped after the big showdown post we had about it a while back.

Legaci Back Up Justin Bieber on The View

Popular daytime talk show ‘The View’ featured Justin Bieber as a guest performer and he brought his trusty back up singers with him, and you already know who it was… Legaci! They sang Justin’s song ‘Never Let You Go’, and frankly I’m not really that big a fan of the track but Legaci sounded great and more importantly they had some huge (if indirect) exposure on national TV again!
