Just ‘Cause: Big Will x Doe Boy Bring Back ‘N Sync

So… honestly I’m not sure whether to laugh or cringe at this video. West coast artist Big Will and his friend Doe Boy decided to juxtapose the once ubiquitous pop song ‘I Want You Back’ by ‘N Sync with footage of a west coast gangsta lifestyle. It’s humorous but a little bizarre at the same time. I’m sure some of you will find this funnier than others but it should be an interesting watch for all. At the very least it’s good to know these guys don’t take themselves too seriously haha.

Mikey Bustos Releases New Mother’s Day Single for Charity – ‘Love of a Mom’

Canadian R&B singer Mikey Bustos has dropped charity singles in the past and he’s back with ‘Love of a Mom’. Half of all the sales proceeds will go directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Network. This song is released in honor of Mother’s Day and in the aid of Breast Cancer awareness. The single is available for a dollar from his website. You can check out a preview of the track below:

Live Oak & Gorski Performance of ‘Analog Girl’ in Philly Posted

Some of you may know the song ‘Analog Girl’, an older track by the duo Oak & Gorski from their album Vienna to Venice. The footage is from a gig in Philly yesterday, so this is is hot off the press! (That phrase is pretty antiquated now isn’t it? haha) I’m a pretty big fan of this song though it lost some of the atmospheric charm that the studio version had. These guys sounded great though, and that cello solo at the end was pretty sweet.

Live Clara Chung Cover Performance of Coldplay and Jared Anderson Posted

Inspire keeps releasing these excellent Clara Chung performances little by little from their event earlier this year. This time they’ve posted up a medley cover she’s done of Coldplay’s “Lost” and Jared Anderson’s “Amazed”. This wasn’t her most technically perfect performance, but it’s easily the most emotional and heartfelt one I’ve seen of hers yet. And for that reason I really enjoyed and appreciated it.

Blue Scholars Interview w/ 24KMilkCrate

Blue Scholars has got a new interview with 24MilkCrate where they discuss a little about performing, what makes a good show, and how important the crowd is. It’s not too long of a view but the the interview is interspersed with performance footage from a gig in LA, helping you get a pretty good idea just what the Seattle duo is talking about.

Mayda Named Best R&B Artist by CityPages

CityPages, an online news publication based in the twin cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis in the mid-west have just named one of their area musicians, Mayda, as the best R&B artist of 2010. I know, 2010 isn’t over yet, CityPages is such a localized site, and Mayda isn’t exactly R&B (though she has her moments) but it’s still a big recognition for the budding artist who continues to expand her style and cultivate a following. Congrats Mayda!

The R&B category seems to get trickier each year, as contemporary artists are mixing elements of funk, soul, and rhythm and blues in with more modern genres like dance and house music, hip hop, and indie folk, pulling the genre into a myriad of different and equally appealing directions. Mayda is no exception. Her R&B-infused pop is undeniably fresh, as she swings between pared-down acoustic struts, full-band funkadelic blasts, and electronic drumbeats and synth flourishes that would make the Purple One proud. The result is a slick, expansive, and evolving pop sound, aided in part by producer and mentor Michael Bland (who drummed with Prince in the early ’90s and currently plays with Nick Jonas), whose Sonic Matrimony Collective label released Mayda’s first full-length, The Interrogation, last year. The prolific young soul singer is just beginning her journey, but it’s hard not to anticipate big things from the petite yet larger-than-life pop songstress.

Dawen Performs “Wake Up” & “Just You” Live for Turtlist Media

Dawen, who dropped his album American Me last year, performs his singles ‘Wake Up’ & ‘Just You’ for Turtlist Media. ‘Wake Up’ is one of his stronger cuts from the album, and he sings the deliberate lyrics with conviction and authenticity. I think I even prefer this stripped down, unplugged type of version over the studio cut. But if you’ve ever faced ignorance due to your ethnicity, this song’s for you.

As for ‘Just You’, it’s a gentle ballad that sounds great on Piano. Once again I think I like it better live!

Jay Park to Work with Teddy Riley, Snoop & T-Pain

Whoa. If the information from AllHipHop is correct, it looks like KPOP’s fallen angel Jay Park is on his grind in full swing here in the states as he’s reportedly in the works with veteran Hip-Hop/R&B Producer Teddy Riley along with artists Snoop Dogg and T-Pain. How’s that for a comeback? Now, the pairing of big name producers and features is a formula that’s been attempted with asian crossover artists in the past to mixed success at best but there is one key difference this time around… Jay’s a native, or in other words more authentic by default. Good for Jay. Looks like there just may be life after JYP afterall.

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop/R&B producer Teddy Riley has teamed up with Korean superstar singer/rapper Jay Park to produce his new untitled album.

Park shot to fame in South Korea as a member of the chart-topping group 2PM.

The American-born B-Boy split with the group amidst controversy in 2009, after making controversial statements about Korea on his MySpace page.

He eventually left the group, but resurfaced in Seattle as part of the Art of Movement B-Boy Crew and through a variety of covers on YouTube.com.

Park’s cover of B.O.B.’s “Nothing On You” has received a staggering 4 million views alone, since being released in March.

Since linking with Teddy Riley, Park has completed tracks with Snoop Dogg, Daz, T-Pain, Krayzie Bone and others.

Additionally, Park has been tapped to star in Hype Nation, a flick about breakdancers from the East and the West.

“I scooped this guy up right away because he is an incredible talent and everybody wants to work with him in the U.S.,” Hype Nation executive producer Jason Lee told AllHipHop.com.

Park will return to Korea this June, where 70% of Hype Nation will be filmed.
