WTF: Clara Chung – Offbeat (Live at ProjectKorea III 4-3-2010)

Welcome to your Weekly Thursday Frebie! We have a very special download for you today. Hopefully many of you know who Clara Chung is by now. She did win Kollaboration after all. And you may have read our coverage of the ProjectKorea III event held a few weeks back, featuring Clara as one of the acts where she performed a number of songs including her awesome single ‘Offbeat’. Well you know we wouldn’t go to the show and not bring you guys back something, so we lugged some recording gear along and captured this gem of a performance.

We are happy to present to you the live version of Clara Chung’s “Offbeat” from ProjectKorea III. It’s seriously one of my favorite songs of the moment and if you’re feeling it too we highly encourage you to support the girl and buy the studio version! It’s only a buck!

Anyway, we hope you enjoy the track and be sure to catch Ms Chung live if you ever get the chance. It’s definitely worth it.

Joseph Vincent Sings on the Ellen Show

Whoa. I had no idea about this but Youtube star Joseph Vincent had the opportunity to sing on national television on the Ellen show. I believe the episode aired today. Ellen is no stranger to featuring talented stars she (or her producers) come across online (Read: Rin on the Rox). He performed a replay of IYAZ’s “Replay” and did a pretty decent job though he was likely fighting some nerves cause I’ve heard him better before. Still though, what an awesome huge opportunity for Joseph. Congrats!

Ellen kicked off her new segment, Ellen’s Wonderful Web of Wonderment, with this performance by a musician named Joseph Vincent, whose web videos have had over a million views.

Traphik Remixes Justin Timberlake with EebSoFresh

So I’ll be completely honest and say Traphik is someone whose comedy is kind of hit or miss with me. His music on the other hand is usually pretty solid. As for this latest drop, a collab with EebSoFresh, I gotta say it’s one of my fav tracks from him. They remix the Justin Timberlake hit ‘Senorita’ from years back, and they put their own spin to it and it’s pretty fresh. It’s a bit short but you can still DL it for free!

Hey seniorita, I was thinkin we could meet up
Take a walk up on the beach and find a place to kick out feet up
Split a quesadilla while we sip on margaritas
Maybe stay a couple weeks Ill grow my hair out like a chia
Pet. And im as good as it gets.
Lookin deep into ya eyes no I dont stare at ya chest
And every dude that like to look at you is very upset
Cuz even though im short, im definitely a threat
So heres a flower go and put it in ya hair
You can lay down for an hour while I rub ya derriere
Get to know you wit some truth and get freaky wit some dare
In that tiny weenie bikini the one thats barely there
See- and this is what I call livin
You and me together even though they all trippin
But I know we just met take a second to think
And before you say yes, lemme buy you a drink

Dumbfoundead Interview w/ Soompi

David Fung, the guy who wrote the now famous list with his top 10 AA rappers, got the chance to interview Dumbfoundead on behalf of Soompi. Dumb’s got some real good points to make about the role of the internet and music now a days. He also talks about his recent collabs and his thoughts about the other AA folk doin their thing. He also mentions a solo album that he’s dropping in June. Also be on the lookout for a posse cut with DT, Dok2, MYK, Epik High, Yankee and more.

Soompi recently scored a video interview with Korean American rapper Dumbfoundead after his Seattle show.  Watch as Dumbfounded talks about a range of topics, including his upcoming projects with Epik High, Drunken Tiger, and MYK, his official YouTube channel, what it feels like to be considered “one of thetop ten Asian American greatest rappers of all time“, and of course, his recent collaboration with Jay Park and Clara!  Definitely check his shout-out to Soompi at the beginning and at 4:44, as well as an excerpt from his show at 4:52 (which does contain swear word, so listen at your own discretion).

Note: I spy DJ Zo in background, this dude is everywhere haha.

Rocky Rivera x Talia Taylor Release “Swag’r Jak’n (Bay Grl Rmx)”

Rocky Rivera is back with a new remix track entitled “Swag’r Jak’n (Bay Grl Rmx)”. It’s her spin on a track by Balance of the same name (basically). She got another femcee to jump on board, Talia Taylor who I’m not really familiar with. This is one of those tracks where I can appreciate what they are doing but not so much the music. It’s just one of those styles that you don’t hear too often round these parts so it takes some getting used to. Im sure you Bay heads will disagree and think I’m an idiot though haha.

It’s so a free DL so get the track here.

Here is my version of Balance’s song “Swagger Jackin’ “. Balance sent me the instrumental after I heard the Bay Area All Star RMX and told him I HAD to do a Bay GRL RMX and invited fellow Lady MC and newcomer, Talia Taylor to hop on it.

Jesse Barrera Releases Another Teaser Clip from the ‘Tangled Up’ MV

You may have seen the making of featurette but Jesse’s got another teaser for the release of his upcoming MV ‘Tangled Up’. The song is off his recently released album Love in Technicolor. Expect the video to drop in just a couple weeks time, on May 12th. Ya gotta love California for all the great music video locales.

Paul Dateh x Ken Belcher Perform ‘Another Chance’ In Live Studio Session

Here’s another cut by Paul & Ken from their album The Good Life called ‘Another Chance’. As always, the duo make it all seem effortless and fluid. The EP was an acoustic effort to begin with so it transfers perfectly to the live studio format. I like how Paul let’s got a little bit and sings with some feeling in this one. Another strong performance clip.

Victor Kim x Cathy Nguyen Cover Train

It seems like ‘Hey Soul Sister’ is still one of the hot songs of the moment, and usually I would be sick and tired of all the covers by this time I’ll make an exception because Victor & Cathy do a great job. VK rocks the trademark ukelele and he and Cathy’s voice’s blend beautifully.

Yea, yea I know we reported Catchy is on a hiatus of sorts… but I guess she made us out to be liars. For her, we don’t mind =).
