Charice to Join the Cast of Glee

For those of you who missed the commotion, last month a rumor spread like wildfire that the young vocal star Charice had been cast into the hit Fox television series Glee. Well that ended up being false and discredited by Ms Pempengco  herself. However, the entire situation inspired her to try out and lo and behold she has been definitively tapped to appear in the 2nd season in the fall! Congrats to Charice, this is the perfect fit for her and we look forward to seeing her crossover into television!

Connie Lim Interview with NBC LA

Check out this interview of Connie Lim on one of the local NBC LA segments. She discusses how she went from Pre-Med to Pre-Law to Pre-Business at UC Berkely before finally admitting to herself that music is where her heart is at. They go in depth on a number topics including some of the serious subject matter that can be found in some of her music. The interview lasts just over 10 minutes and includes a live performance. Connie is definitely an intriguing artist and I look forward to hearing what her EP dropping soon will sound like.

This is the same guy who interviewed dumbfoundead, and the same production qualities that plagued that interview are still present here (bad sound quality, slightly awkward character, etc).

Kina Grannis Performs on CBS’s the Early Show

Kina Grannis, who recently wrapped up her East Coast tour, had the opportunity to perform on national tv on The Early Show on CBS a couple days ago. What an incredible opportunity though the sound set up wasn’t the best… sounded a bit thin and flat. She performed a couple songs including her hit song “Valentine” which you can watch below. She’s an incredible talent and we’re ecstatic to see her gain more national exposure.

You can always watch the Q&A interview session after the break.

Thai x Michelle Martinez Release the MV for “I’mma Be the Best”

A month ago they dropped the trailer but the full MV for “I’mma Be the Best” was released today. Michelle Martinez features and and is a great addition to the song, giving the track a lot of soul. This is probably my favorite release from 454 thus far since it’s the first track with some real content. MMA fighter Cung Le makes an extended cameo in this well made video. I think most of you will enjoy this one too.

454 Life Entertainment presents the official video “I’mma Be The Best” by Thai Viet G featuring Michelle Martinez! Directed by GINOROCKS of 454 Films. Special appearance by Cung Le.

Esna Yoon, Lyricks, JL, Sickboi, Capital P & More To Hold Concert in VA

That’s quite the line up. A ton of VA artists – Lyricks, JL, Sickboi, Capital P and west coast soul singer Esna Yoon are throwing a fundraiser concert in VA a week from today. You can find details at the official facebook event page. For those of you in the Mid-Atlantic area, this is a show you probably don’t want to miss out on!

[UPDATE] Date changed to Monday, 6/28. It is no longer 6/27.[/UPDATE]

When’s the last time you’ve been to a LEGITIMATE hip hop concert in Northern Virginia?

Don’t answer that… I already know.

This coming Sunday (6.27) @ Mason District Park in Annandale, I am hosting a once in a lifetime EXCLUSIVE outdoor BBQ/Concert for my fellow Virginians! Nas did it in Central Park. David Chapelle did it in Brooklyn. Now it’s Lyricks’ turn….

Starting from 6pm… the burgers will be on the grill. There will be drinks, games and good company… then the show will kick off around 7 @ the ampitheatre and the line up is so crazy!

Esna Yoon (www.youtube.com/esnathesinger) will be flying from CALIFORNIA to bless us with her sensational, mindblowing voice.

JL (The Beautiful Cycle representative / guaranteedrawmusic.blogspot.com)

Sickboi (www.sickboimusic.com)

Capital P, Lyricks and more!

This will definitely be a night of surprises… Please tell your friends and family to come witness the true essence of a HIPHOP concert!

Admission fee will be $15 (this includes 2 meal tickets and the concert ticket) and all the proceeds will be going to ANSC’s (All Nations Sarang Church) Youth Group fund. We are a new church with huge visions and we need your help to purchase praise equipment and other necessities.

This is an ALL ages event. This will be a God centered event. If you can make it… PRAISE THE LORD. If not… please pray for us anyway. LET’S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

heck… you know what?! if you RSVP on this event page, you will recieve a free Lyricks cd at the show. let’s see how hard VIRGINIA will support its own!

Alfa Garcia Releases the MV for “Love as Tragedy”

She released the preview a couple weeks back, but here’s the official video which she debuted last night. The song is “Love as Tragedy: A Play in 3 Acts” and features a pretty well executed video that really was only lacking in technical polish. I like that they tried something a little different with the exposition unfolding like a play. It’s a great first music video for the budding artist, and hopefully the first of many more to come.

Here it is! The official music video for “Love as Tragedy: A Play in 3 Acts”, off the album “Second Skin” by singer-songwriter Alfa (www.alfa-music.com).

Direction and screenplay by David Speranza
Shot at Paul Vincent Studios, Hoboken, NJ
Song written by Alfa Garcia (BMI) Copyright (c) 2009
Produced by Alex Houton (AHM Media), Red Bank, NJ

Featuring Samantha Karlin and Trevor Kluckman
with Mia Fernandez, Rick Galvin, Andrea Schoeneberg and Jon McElroy.

Crew: Cliff Hausner, Andrea Schoeneberg, Matt d’Alessio, Herrard Costales, Faye Garcia, Rob Bieselin.

Finally, thanks to the extras and the folks at Paul Vincent Studios!

Catch some behind the scenes footage after the break!

Must Read – Great NY Times Online Article on Legaci and Other AA Musicians

Check out this great article on the NY Times website highlighting and focusing on Asian American musicians, most prominently Legaci as they continue their back up duties for Justin Bieber. They mention a lot of great talent, including Charice, David Choi, AJ Rafael, Kina Grannis, Gabe Bondoc, Cathy Nguyen, JR Aquino, Dawen, Jennifer Chung, and more. Just in case the link dies at some point, I’ve copied and pasted it after the break. It’s awesome to see the growing exposure for these immensely talented people.

Alfa Garcia Shares Performance Footage from Gig at Best Buy

New York must be a special place because I don’t have any live musicians at any of my local Best Buys. But nevertheless Alfa Garcia had the opportunity to play there a couple days back and here’s some footage from the event. She was backed by a full band and sang “Meaningless Conversation” and “Second Skin”. I think its kinda hilarious that the dude who looks like might be her merch staff is just standing on the side chilling awkwardly.

J Reyez x JD Relic x 3rd Degree Cover Big Bang’s “Tell Me Goodbye”

J Reyez seems to enjoy creating english covers of KPOP songs, and this time he’s joined by JD Relic and 3rd Degree as they put their english spin on the Big Bang single “Tell Me Goodbye”. It’s good but with a few tweaks I think they could have done a lot more with this beat instead of just a cover/remix. Even still, the singers don’t miss a note, J’s flow never slipped, and in general a decent track. You can DL it for free here or here.

3rd Degree and JD Relic got at me to put together an English cover version for Tell Me Goodbye so hope you guys like it! By the way, I avoided copying TOP’s flow on my verse and decided to just do my thing.

Intro By JD and 3rd Degree
Verses by 3rd Degree
Chorus by JD Relic
Bridge Rap by J Reyez
