DJ Neil Armstrong Interview w/ MADE

DJ Neil Armstrong sat down with MADE for their “Visions of Visionaries” feature. They discuss in depth how he found his way into the music game among other things and of course what it was like working with Jay-Z. His story is pretty inspiring, especially to folks like me who juggle a corporate gig while doing what we love during “non business” hours.

For our latest “Visions of Visionaries” we got together with acclaimed dj Neil Armstrong to talk about his passion for music, how it all got started, his work with Jay-Z and much more.

It’s always surprising to see for us from which background some artists actually come from. I mean who would have thought that once a chemical engineer will be spinning Hip Hop tunes for the inauguration of the first black President of the United States?!

Stop dreaming. It’s real:

Mike-Dash-E x Chariz Release “The Funeral” MV & Mixtape

If you’re looking for some Hip-Hop of the moe gritty variety, then you should prob check out this new joint release mixtape from Mike-Dash-E and Chariz entitled The Funeral. This tape isn’t too long, with the final count at 11 tracks but based on the title track I think you get a pretty good idea of what to expect. The MV for said track is available for viewing below, where MDE pretty clearly outshines Chariz but their styles balance out each other pretty well. It’s a free DL, available here!

Surrilla x Manifest Release “Blinded by the Light”

It’s another cross country collab with LA’s Surrilla and VA’s Manifest joining forces to drop a new track entitled “Blinded by the Light”. It’s a pretty dope track and I’m liking the beat selection. The two make for a pretty cohesive duo with a verse a piece. I can already tell this is gonna be a sleeper hit for me. I’m liking it just a little more with each listen. Don’t believe me? See for yourself and download it for free here.

Krystle Cruz Releases Debut Album – Underneath Me

The time has finally come for Krystle Cruz to release her long awaited debut LP, Underneath Me. The album features her catchy single “Eternity“, along with 10 other tracks (with a couple of features). It’s currently available on iTunes, but I believe Amazon availability is in the works for those of you outside the Apple-verse. If you’re into Pop/R&B be sure to support the girl and pick up a copy!

[Edit] Now available via Amazon MP3 and Big Cartel.[/Edit]

Sue Jin Shares New Original – “The Road”

Sue Jin is the type of musicians that doesn’t really over saturate her presence online, so it’s always a bit of a rare treat to come across new material from her. Her latest offering is a track called “The Road”, a song about riding out a journey despite the rough bumps along the way. This isn’t the final version but more of a scratch track/reference but it’s sounding strong so far. Very moody but hopefully passionate. Though I could do without the cliche motivational poster-esque picture selection that accompanies the music.

Hey everyone!

It took me over 7 months to finish writing this song, only because I didn’t know what would be at the end of that road. Well, I know now… and the view… is much nicer from here. :)

This song is dedicated to every victim / survivor of violence or trauma… It gets better…

-Sue Jin

p.s. This is a rough recording. An official studio recording is on the way. :)

D-Pryde Signed to Mars Music Group

I’m not sure how I didn’t catch wind of this earlier, but it looks like the young Canadian MC known as D-Pryde has been signed to Mars Music Group. It appears MMG is a newer label since I couldn’t dig up too much information on them but a series of tweets from a couple weeks back announced to the world that D Prizzy is officially on board, cosigned by DJ Suss One. What’s to come of this venture isn’t entirely clear but it’s awesome to see the kid get recognized, he’s got a pretty nice flow for sure. Congrats to D Pryde on the milestone!

DJ Suss One:

Everyone say congrats to the homie D-Pryde – @DPrizzy!! We just signed him and we are going to make Avatar moves this year!! Follow him!!

D-Pryde:

Looks like I’m signed now…thanks everybody. Let’s do it! Take em to mars baby! http://tweetphoto.com/32389877

Showdown: JVoqalz vs Mike Isberto vs Jayne Rio x Summerbreeze

It’s been a couple months since the last time we featured a Showdown but today felt like the perfect opportunity to pick the series back up because 3 covers of the same track were uploaded all within a day of each other… and I’m certain this is just the beginning. If you’ve been keeping up with us, you may recall we posted about a fresh new track by the very talented Bruno Mars entitled “Just the Way You Are”. Turns out we definitely weren’t the only ones to love the track. Check out these renditions from JVoqalz, Mike Isberto, and Jayne Rio x Summerbreeze. It seems like its a requirement for these Californian Filipino artists to pick up the guitar and cover this track!

JVoqalz

Mike Isberto

Jayne Rio x Summerbreeze

I’m being 100% honest when I say it’s hard for me to pick favorite out of these three. Each cover had it’s own unique spin and qualities to it. JVoqalz put some acoustic R&B flavor on it, Mike slowed it down and made it more intimate while Jayne & Summer had the benefit of great harmonies and instrumentation. How about you?

Aero-K Releases the “In Tune” Mixtape

I’d be willing to bet that many of you aren’t familiar with Aero-K. He’s one of the artists part of The Troubadours and half of the Jazz influenced Hip-Hop duo Jazsapiens. Well the dude is branching out on his own and has just dropped his first mixtape. This release features contributions from Surrilla, Rivulet, Carnivo, Ego, Slegzo, Ryan Park, and Connie Yoon. The tracks are mostly of the underground hip-hop/jazz fusion variety (think Nujabes or Dilla). If you’re looking for something new you can check this tape out for free courtesy of bandcamp or stream it below first!

Rocky Rivera Releases Teaser for “Trick Habit” MV

The artist formerly known as EyeASage – Rocky Rivera – isn’t letting her partner in life & rhyme (Bambu) out grind her, and is getting ready to release the music video for the single “Trick Habit” off her self titled debut. She’s linked up with Kid Heroes productions and I’m loving the retro style direction they’ve taken with the video. It matches the vibe of the song quite well. It looks like her normal entourage is present in the video as well. Looking forward to seeing the final version!

Bambu Releases “Paper Thin” For Free DL, Previews MV

It hasn’t been too long since Bambu dropped the MV for “Old Man Raps” but he’s already on to the next one, showing us a preview of the music video for the single “Paper Thin” featuring Chace Infinite off the same EP – …Paper Cuts… From the looks of the preview, the video reminds me of “Quit” and for good reason since it looks like it’s produced by the same folks. If you never copped the EP but want this track in your playlist, you’re in luck because Bam has also put up the “Maxi Single” for download for FREE.
