Tokimonsta Featured in URB’s 10 Awesome New Beat Makers

LA’s Tokimonsta has been featured in URB’s list of 10 Awesome New Beat Makers. They profile a bunch of up and coming artists that are on the tipping point, recognizing them for their sound, grind, and creativity. I’m glad Toki is getting some props from a respected publication like URB. She’s definitely a creative tour de force behind the boards and deserves all the shine.

Jennifer Lee is the first lady of Brainfeeder, and an important part of the Low End Theory party in L.A. Tokimonsta’s music is often chilled, pensive and reflective, but she also has a monstrous side; awaking you from the dream with a ridiculous stomping blast of the unreal. Her psychedelic fusion is a part of a beat movement in L.A. right now, with no barriers. Listen to her unreal remix of Tweet’s “Call Me” and you will understand

Jennifer Chung Features For Clarke on “Sea Seven”

There are few things in music that I can appreciate more than a great duet. When two artists collab and their voices just complement each other perfectly, it’s a feat that is often attempted but rarely achieved. For a couple of people singing to an instrumental in front of a webcam, this song by Jennifer Chung & James from Clarke comes very, very close. It’s called “Sea Seven” and the two sound great together, presenting a great bluesy rock track.

Traphik Previews New Single – “Insecure Girls”

Traphik can spit some socially conscious raps? Who knew? The comedian/MC shares his introspective side as he mellows out on a topic about female body image and self respect. It’s only a clip but it sounds dope so far. Look for it on an upcoming mixtape that he says will “drop very very soon”. It’ll be a free DL so you can hear it in full then along with the rest of the tape. Not bad, not bad at all.

Neah Lee Shares New Original – “Paralytic’s Plea”

One of the great things about singer songwriters is that they often choose to experiment with their sounds, especially in a live environment. Neah Lee, whom we haven’t heard any new material from in a while, has uploaded a new video of her singing a new song titled “Paralytic’s Plea”. It’s a heavy hearted song, but beautifully arranged. Only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the vocal harmony effects, it was unevenly mixed and a bit overpowering.

Neah’s new song “Paralytic’s Plea” with a new arrangement with looping sounds through the RC-50. All looping is done in real time (in layman’s term – each sound is being recorded as it happens and being layered on top of each other).
Recorded @ Studio 23 @ Irvine, CA.

Definition of paralytic – A person affected with paralysis. Can’t move on, unable to move forward. In need of healing from someone/something greater.

Those going through a tough time…hang in there. This too shall pass and you’ll feel the warmth of the sun and the light of it’s rays once again.

Far East Movement Releases Major Label Debut – Free Wired

Today is the day. October 12th, 2010. The Far East Movement has dropped their official major label debut with Cherrytree/Interscope Records and it’s called Free Wired. There’s a total of 10 tracks, 11 if you get it on iTunes (free bonus track). Of course “Like a G6″ is on there, along with a couple previously heard tracks (“Girls on the Dance Floor”) but there are a bunch of new songs on here too, featuring the likes of Snoop, Ryan Tedder and more. Whether or not this album is any good is yet to be determined but it’s a huge milestone both for the group and the Asian American music community as a whole. If you’re a fan of the group and their music then I urge you to support them and purchase a copy of their album. It is available on iTunes, Amazon, and retailers nation wide. Congrats to FM on their debut.
