IAMMEDIC x My Ninja x FM Mashes Up KPOP

In promotion for their big 90′s KPOP party this Friday in LA, IAMMEDIC and Peter Rocks of MyNinja have decided to create a couple KPOP mashups, mixing in some current music with some old KPOP favorites. First up is IAMMEDIC with a track they call “Turn Around and Look at MEdic”, a mashup set to “나를 돌아봐” originally performed by Deux.

Second is Peter Rocks’ creation where he takes FM’s “Like a G6″ and mixes it in with Kin Gun Mo’s 잘못된 만남.

I liked both mixes a lot. It brings me back. I wouldn’t mind if they put together a whole compilation album of this nature haha. The “Like a G6″ mix in particular is a lot of fun.

Just ‘Cause: Youth Charge Now!

Recently I ran into the folks behind a new initiative called Youth Charge Now!, a group that focuses on encouraging and educating multi-cultural youth on using their power and right to vote. Here’s a little about them:

Youth Charge Now

In August 2010, a group of Asian leaders got together at a national conference in San Francisco.  They discussed how important it was to mobilize and support our Asian American youth to become the next generation of leaders.  We believed it was critical to get the APIA youth to band together, get involved in civic engagement activities like voting in the midterm elections and show our collective clout.  While we’re the fastest growing percentage of multicultural communities, we’re often ignored by mainstream media and other groups. We need to fight for our issues and take a stance on them by demonstrating our leadership and presence on a national scale.
This marked the birth of our campaign.  We would serve APIA youth by getting them involved in leadership and civic engagement issues.  We wanted to offer a contest and incentives for people who were marginally sitting on the bench to stand up and get involved. A new twist is that a couple of us who cooked up this idea had the ability to create this campaign and bring technology, corporate support and resources to make this happen quickly and on a national basis. We had extensive connections within the business, media and non-profit worlds. We also wanted to bring together the experienced APIA leaders to help the up and coming APIA youth. We would provide technology, sponsors, funding and experienced leaders and the youth would provide the directions, ideas and leadership within their own peer networks. We believed it was critical for us to bridge the generational gap and leverage our collective strengths.
We contacted some youth leaders and pulled together a council to advise us on how the youth would want to be approached and pulled in to help run and promote this campaign. In fact, they believed that this could become a sustainable youth movement supported by technology to connect us all through social media like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and text messaging that would last far beyond the midterm elections. Something that would grow big quickly and allow the youth nationally to self organize and mobilize using social media.
Thus the idea of Youth Charge Now! was born.

So now that you know about the organization, you should also know that they are running a little contest for those who register to join the cause. If you register w/ YCN, you can win a Kollaboration concert at your College campus, or 500$, or a free round trip Airfare ticket. Click here to see how to win those prizes. Or you can submit a Youtube video for a chance to win $500 as well. You can find out more about the organization at their website.

IBU x Illmocity Cover/Remix “What I Need” by Deepside [Free DL]

Two groups, IBU and Illmocity have teamed up to release a track but in each case one member is missing. They took a song by Deepside called “What I Need” and put their own vocals on it. I’m liking this one a lot. The video is whatever but the song itself is pretty decent and the musical chemistry between all the artists is strong. Hopefully we’ll have more IBU x Illmocity joints in the future. You can DL it for free here.

What happens when you have 2/3 of the dopest Chicago R&B group, IBU and 2/3 of Asian super rap group, Illmocity? Tommy C & Mike of IBU comes together w/ City Boy & Illmillion of Illmocity to cover/remix “What I Need” by Deepside. Very popular song a few years back, surprisingly we were the first to cover/remix this song on YouTube. Enjoy the song!

The Blue Scholars Release New Single – “Big Bank Hank” [Free DL]

Sea-town’s Blue Scholars return with another new single entitled “Big Bank Hank”. It’s honestly getting to the point where I’m hard pressed to come across a Blue Scholars release I didn’t like.  It’s a chill upbeat song that is hard not to nod ya head to. The song is available for free via the widget below. Check out a humorous retelling of how the song possibly came to be.

The Gochu Boyz Release “Dick So Big” MV

This is one of those moments where I’m not sure to laugh or cringe. Some of the main cast (Danny Cho, Shane Yoon, Justin Chon) from Ktown Cowboys have come together to release this ridiculous tongue in cheek track titled “Dick So Big”. I’m sure you can guess what it’s about. It’s meant to be a comedic song, but you should watch the accompanying MV to fully “appreciate” it. The track’s available on iTunes and Amazon. Bet you never saw Justin Chon like this haha.

Triangle Offense Releases the MV for “TGIF”

Hip-Hop group Triangle Offense have finally dropped the official MV for their single “TGIF” aka Thank God I’m Fresh. It’s a simple video, with everything shot in front of a clean white backdrop along with various filters utilized to add some visual flair. It works on some levels but I don’t think it was a complete success. I loved the single so it’s just a little bit of a shame to me that the MV didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The MV just seemed too plain for such a fun song. Speaking of which, the song can be found on their mixtape The Courting, available for free.

D-League Drop the MV for “Make Me Wanna” ft Chorde

The track “Make Me Wanna” can be found on D-League’s latest mixtape Almost Famous (it’s free), and as of today now has it’s own official MV too. D-League lays down the verses with Chorde making smooth R&B vocal work on the hook. The song grew on me after a couple listens. The video doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary but matches the song considering the subject matter. Quality is great though. Dre films puts together some sharp looking productions.

After the break you can catch some behind the scenes action.
