It’s AA love all around. Paul Dateh & Dawen put down a smooth jazzy cover of the Far East Movement’s new single “Rocketeer” off their Free Wired album, originally featuring Ryan Tedder of One Republic. I’m loving this version, it’s completely different, plays to the strengths of both musicians and still gives the nod to the fellas from FM. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Dateh x Dawen EP!
The world famous DJ Qbert has been honored by DJ Times & Pioneer with the America’s Best DJ 2010 Award. I don’t think anyone can deny this man’s influence over the industry and advancement of the art of DJing. This award is definitely deserved and a long time coming. You can hear his comments on the award in a short interview in the second half of the clip. Props to Q for holding it down all these years and never deserting his craft, we’re glad he’s being recognized with the honor.
Singer/song writer Nessa Rica has shared a new song called “Journey” about her experience travelling to New Jersey. After watching the clip I feel like this song has such a strong foundation and a lot of potential but it’s too bare and unpolished to see the potential gem that’s there. It has a great vibe to it, but the instrumentation and arrangement was a little dull. I hope she gets a chance to clean it up and lay down a studio version in the near future.
Peep the new interview that Mixcrate has out with the famous DJ Neil Armstrong. He gives a lot of experienced advice for Disc Jockeys on the come up. It’s a lot of practical pointers on how to stay on point while on your grind and understanding that it’s an uphill battle all the way. The guy seems very level headed despite all the acclaim and I can respect that!
After teasing us with previews and tweets, Paul Kim’s MV for his new single “Hero” is finally out. The video quality is great and the MV is enjoyable provided you don’t try to look for too many layers. It’s simple, with only a few scenes, but it’s edited cleanly and doesn’t distract from the song, which is a strong single by the way. If you’re feeling it too, go grab it from iTunes or Amazon now!
Giana, Connie, Sue Jin, Kristine
Back in August, musician Tony T Nguyen hosted an event featuring a number of very talented singer/songwriters including the ladies you see above. This picture was taken at the event and I forgot who tweeted it but regardless it’s a fun pic that captures four incredibly talented women doing their thing in music. From left to right you have Giana Nguyen, Connie Lim, Sue Jin, and Kristine Sa.
NY based sister Hip-Hop duo Misnomer(s) has always been a group that caught my interest, specifically because they buck so many trends that it’s hard to even keep track. But I was able to learn a little more about them through this interview w/ The Mad Bloggers. It provides a candid glimpse of the dynamic they share not only as band members, but as friends, and most of all sisters… and everything that comes with the territory. If you’re interested you can catch it in full after the break or by heading over to TMB.
Well the title certainly fits. MYX TV has put together a concert featuring a ton of Youtube artists including Andrew Garcia, Erika David, Michelle Martinez, JR Aquino, Lil Crazed, Summer Breeze, Joey Diamond and Traphik. That’s a ton of artists at one event. It’s scheduled to go down on Thursday, November 18th at UC Davis. You can find out more information and how to purchase tickets at the official event website.
In more album release news, frequent collaborators Deep Foundation & Hydroponikz have linked up again, this time for a full album they call Generation ILL. It isn’t too long, clocking in at 10 tracks, with several of them being bonus, but if the rest of the album turns out anything like the title track, it should be a strong release. One thing I always admire about DF/Hydro drops is the production, they always got some nice beats. The album has vocal features from Melissa Polinar, Rocky Rivera, Bambu and more. Grab your copy of the album from iTunes or CD Baby.
