Jin Releases the 2010 Hip Hop Census Mixtape [Free DL]

It’s been talked about almost all year, but it’s finally here. Jin has dropped his collaborative project, the 2010 Hip Hop Census mixtape. The release features artists from all over the world who participated in a contest to have Jin jump in on a track with them and included in this album. He’s previously shared some of the tracks before but here is the final product. Congrats again to all of the artists that made it onto the mixtape! Much respect to Jin for showing love and appreciation for his fans, and remembering his roots. It’s a free DL, so make sure to grab it!

Bambu x DJ Muggs Release the “Grenade” MV

Bambu is collabing with another LA legend, Cypress Hill’s resident DJ/Producer DJ Muggs. They are putting out an EP in the near future called Los Angeles, Philippines and this is one of the singles off said album. It’s called Grenade and the MV is a mash up of footage from when they were in the studio. It’s more of a montage MV than anything else. These guys represent their city to the fullest and I’m looking forward to when the EP drops.

Elise Estrada Shares “Lipstick” Snippet; Will Release Album Nov 9th

Candian artist Elise Estrada has just released a short clip of her second single off her upcoming album Here Kitty Kittee. Strange title but I digress. The song is called “Lipstick” and follows “You’re So Hollywood” as the next track to be promoted from the release. This song is one of the first singles I liked from the start by Elise. Hopefully the full version will turn out to be just as strong of a pop ditty. You can expect the entire album to drop November 9th.

Whoaaaa. Dumbfoundead really knows how to bring talent together. He’s called an almost definitive collection of Korean & Korean-American MC’s for a track called “Respect 16s” which is set to drop in a few days on October 26th. Of course DJ Zo is on there too. Check out the lineup – Dumb, Dok2, MYK, Yankie, Rakaa, Epik High, Bizzy, Sean Rhee & Tiger JK. This guy doesn’t play around! I can’t wait for this to drop. Posse tracks are wassup!

Thai x IZ x Tommy C x J Reyez x Lil Crazed Release Teaser of “Girlfriend” MV

You didn’t think Tommy C, J Reyez, and Lil Crazed would visit the bay area without getting a ton of work done with 454 did you? Here’s more evidence that the artists kept busy as they dropped the teaser to a new MV they plan to release next month called “Girlfriend”. It’s another mixing bowl of Youtube talent and from the looks of it, this is another track for the ladies. As always from 454, it looks like the visuals are top-notch quality.

Far East Movement’s Free Wired Debuts at #24 – 17K Sold

When you’re not an industry insider it’s a little hard to come by Soundscan numbers but based on what I was able to find, FM’s major label debut effort Free Wired sold approximately 17K, landing it the number 24 spot for the week. To put it in perspective, Jin’s major label debut back in 2004 reportedly reeled in just under 20K in sales giving him the #54 spot for that week. But back then Jin didn’t have a top 10 hit or several high profile nation wide tours to help but all in all it shows record sales aren’t what it used to be. The number one spot for the past week went to Lil Wayne, whose I AM NOT A HUMAN BEING, sold nearly 119K.

So long story short, the fellas of FM did OK in the context of today’s album sales trends, and especially for a brand new group who only recently started building up a nationwide buzz, but their first week certainly wasn’t a runaway success story. It’s still an uphill battle for the guys, and all Asian-American artists in general.

Paul Kim Interviews w/ Harlem World

Although neither from nor currently living in Harlem, HW has profiled singer Paul Kim and his music in an interview detailing the path his career his taken, his single “Hero” and upcoming album, life in California, being a soul artist and a lot more. A good read for those of you unfamiliar with the former AI contestant. You can read the interview in full after the break or over at HW.

Lil Crazed x Megan Lee x Vudoo Soul x Jason Yang x Jason Chen Cover “Hey Soul Sister” [Free DL]

Hold on, it looks like we’re not done yet with the “Hey Soul Sister” covers. While I’m a little bit tired of this song this clip is an exception. We got Lil Crazed rapping, Megan Lee singing and strumming the guitar, Vudoo & Jason Chen also on vocals and Jason Yang doing his thing on violin over in Mississippi. It’s a fun little live performance and a good acoustic rendition overall. It’s also available as a free DL!
