Thai has dropped his latest mixtape, The Statement as a free DL today. He’s previously leaked some tracks from the album but you can now hear it in full. Click the album cover above to DL it!
Additionally, with the release of the mixtape, he’s also released the video for a song called “Burnin” featuring Suryil, a singer who has featured on other 454 Entertainment productions. The music video is simple but matches the song well. He turns on his trademark rapid fire flow towards the end of the song. I think Thai has always been the kind of MC to excel when he raps introspectively.
Here’s another Now You Know episode by Nicki Sun where she gets to talk with one of my favorite artists, Cathy Nguyen. It’s a good to hear from Cathy since she’s on a self imposed hiatus from music to focus on her radiology career. The girl has priorities and I have nothing but respect for that. Even though we wish her the best we still hope to hear new music from her soon!
Dang, Michelle Martinez didn’t just sing this cover of Jojo’s “Boy Without a Heart”, she sang it. Check out her passionate rendition below. Her vocals could have been upped just a tad, and enunciation could have been a bit more crisp but otherwise she sounded great. It’s refreshing to hear her on a slow track because the girl’s got a voice. You can DL this cover for free here.
In my mind this is really a noteworthy day. a-Tunes started way back in June of 2008 with just me, GT, at the helm. Then early this year, Music4UrSoul came on board as a part time contributor and west coast correspondent. But most of all it’s because of readers such as yourself that this site has continued to grow and expand. You help us discover new talent, heck a lot of you are the talent and we couldn’t be more thankful for supporters like you.
But the time has come again for the team to expand. Things are quickly becoming too overwhelming for our two person team, and quite frankly we could use other passionate individuals to join us in spotlighting the vast amount of Asian-American/Asian talent out there. If this is something you think you’d be interested in, read on to see how you can help.
It’s finally here. It’s been a long time since the last Devotion release but they make a return with their latest album entitled Last Call. It’s got fourteen tracks, with even a feature from AJ Rafael who likely first heard Devotion when he was just a kid. You can grab the album on either iTunes or Amazon but at the moment Amazon is 2 dollars cheaper PLUS if you use the following 3 dollar credit you can get it for a total of 4.99. It’s awesome to see the fellas back in action. Support these veterans of Asian-American music!
Indie rocker Jihae dropped a new album in September called Fire Burning Rain and recently dropped the music video for the single “My Love” from said album. Jihae is one of those artists that likes to use multiple mediums to convey her craft, which explains the abstract use of color and imagery in the video. It’s one of those things no one will probably ever fully understand except Jihae herself. I liked the song a lot but the video was a bit trippy.
The Far East Movement is reportedly set to perform at one of South Korea’s largest end of year music awards shows, the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards aka MAMA. They’ll be sharing the stage with some of that country’s biggest stars and will be representing their music to a whole new international audience. Word is Roscoe Umali will be in attendance as well! If you don’t get Korean TV you can always stream it for free courtesy of AKP. This is huge and we hope they’ll be embraced internationally as well!
Exciting news for Far East Movement fans!
Mnet announced on November 22nd that the American hip hop group confirmed that they will perform at this year’s ‘2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)‘.
Far East Movement is comprised of Korean-Americans J-Splif and Prohgress, Japanese/Chinese-American Kev Nishimura, and Filipino-American DJ Virman. They recently earned the #1 rank on theU.S. Billboard Charts with their hit track, ‘Like a G6‘.
“We are not simply holding a Korean music awards show overseas. There may be insufficiencies now, but this is only the beginning of a new journey, and we hope in 5-10 years time, we will be able to introduce different music from each Asian country through MAMA. Our goal is to help in the exchange of rich music to eventually become one great Asian music power show,” stated a representative from MAMA.
With other international artists like Japan’s CHEMISTRY and ZEEBRA, as well as the Philippines’ Roscoe Umali attending the ‘2010 MAMA’, it’ll definitely be an interesting show to tune into.
Be sure to mark your calendars for November 28th, as allkpop will stream the event LIVE!
In a big collaboration of Youtube rappers, 454′s Thai & IZ team up with Tommy C of IBU, J. Reyez and Lil Crazed for a new single and music video called “Girlfriend”. We showed you the preview for the song a month ago but now you can see the final version. The song is also available on iTunes. This is a tune I’m sure the ladies are gonna love. It’s a solid pop song for sure. The video production values are crisp (as always from 454) and they chose some great locations around the bay for the shoot. If you’re looking for a light, catchy tune you’ll prob enjoy this release.
With the holiday travel season now in full swing, there is a massive amount of discussion and protest regarding the bolstered TSA security measures including body scanners and full contact pat down searches. This is what has moved David to sing “Please Don’t Touch My Junk”, a humorous look at all the commotion. His songs tend to stray super serious or super silly. This is definitely the latter. DL it for free here.
This has been in the works for quite some time but the day has finally come where Bambu & DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill have dropped their collective effort mixtape entitled Los Angeles, Philippines.
