Mikey Bustos Shares New Original – “I Promise”
Candian pop/R&B singer Mikey Bustos has a new song to share and it’s called “I Promise”. He categorizes it as an original wedding ballad and I think that’s a pretty accurate description. It’s another reminder just how talented this guy is. I’m sure there are those of you that will find the song too sappy, and others who will find it romantic. I’m somewhere in the middle but you know what? I can appreciate a good ballad. I am part Korean after all haha. The song is well produced and has a beautiful melody. Great song from MB.
Chops Talks to NodFactor About Producing for The Lonely Island x Nicki Minaj
If you’ve paid even the least bit of attention to online pop culture then you have probably seen a video or two by the SNL comedy troupe known as The Lonely Island. Well this past weekend the group dropped a new viral digital gem called “The Creep”, a collaboration with the ubiquitous Nicki Minaj. It’s a hilarious bit, watch it below.
Well what makes this video especially news worthy is the fact that production was handled by none other than Chops. He speaks to NodFactor about the track and how it ended up in the hands of the SNL crew. You can catch the interview in full after the break or head on over to NodFactor. Props to Chops on the placement! You can get the single on iTunes & Amazon.
Young Chariz Drops a Freeverse in the Studio
Daaaang. It’s sometimes hard to judge an MC’s skills based purely on their singles, because often time their official releases cater to one audience and they don’t utilize the extent of their abilities. I guess that’s what I get for not doing my homework because Young Chariz just dropped a pretty hot freeverse in this video clip. I know not everyone has the same tastes in music, but I wish this is the type of lyrical material artists like Chariz would drop all the time with a few commercial/tough talk records mixed in here and there, rather than the other way around. Dope drop from the kid outta the bay.
The Freshmen: Francis Kang – “Home Sweet Home” MV
Welcome to another installment of The Freshmen, where we feature artists who haven’t quite developed a following yet, and are still working on establishing themselves and making their official debut.. Remember it’s important that you the readers vote either thumbs up or thumbs down on these posts because this will help us decide which of these artists can graduate from The Freshmen and be a part of the regular rotation of a-Tunes Music News.
In this post, we have Virginia crooner Francis Kang. Although he’s been doing music on the side for a while, he’s just now starting to branch out – including this brand new music video for his new single Home Sweet Home, featuring production from Sky Muzik Entertainment. There’s a pretty powerful message in both the song & video and production values are solid but lacks polish. But the question is how do you think it fares? Your input matters!
Bruno Mars Strikes Up Plea Deal; Avoids Jail Time

You may remember last fall, singer Bruno Mars was arrested on drug charges after a show in Las Vegas. Well it’s been reported that the talented musician has reached a plea deal that includes a $2000 dollar fine, drug counseling, and 200 hours of community service. Upon completion of said conditions, and if he manages to stay out of trouble for the remainder of the year, Bruno will walk away without any convictions on his record. That’s a huge opportunity to side step what would have been an ugly blow to his otherwise very promising career. Mars has been nominated for 7 Grammy nominations, let’s hope he’s able to stick around to accept any potential awards.
Sam Tsui & Kurt Schneider Covers “Hold It Against Me”
Sam and Kurt release another video, they have become an internet sensation. Almost every video they release has at least over a million views. One thing I like about this cover is that it’s tempo is not as fast as the original song. Great artists should be able too change the tempo to any song and this is what Sam and Kurt did. Also every video, they always try their best. Not once have I seen them slack off. Sam’s vocals are always amazing, especially in this video. Kurt got really creative with the bass creator. If you like the song, support them by buying it off iTunes here.
Worst Ever: Peter Chao Does Blackface
Youtube comedian/”musician”/personality Peter Chao has the tendency to both crack me up and make me shake my head in disdain. One of his latest videos, entitled “Chinese Guy WHIPS His D!CK (Back and Forth)!”, made me do the latter and potentially turned me off from his comedy completely.
His self-deprecating humor is already too much for many, as he puts on a crazy chinese accent and generally acts a fool. I for one found him to be humorous, occasionally hilarious, all the while acknowledging that it is in fact racist. But his latest video crossed a line. He went from making jokes about his and others cultures, to actually visually mocking African-Americans via blackface. For those of you that aren’t familiar with blackface… read up. But in general it’s a very degrading representation.
There may be some of you who think I’m being too uptight and that I’m just missing the point of his humor. Maybe so, but I still stand by the fact that there’s a fine line between funny and distasteful, and Peter Chao completely jumped into the latter side head first. I couldn’t even finish the clip, I was so disgusted.
And that is why I’ve chosen to unsubscribe. I’m not telling any of you who are fans to do the same. But I am at least asking yourself, is this a justifiable cost for some cheap laughs? If someone did yellowface, I doubt you’d be laughing.
Dawen Performs for KAC Media
Dawen is easily one of the more talented musicians that we cover, injecting a little bit of soul, social conciousness, and jazz/R&B to create a unique sound. Don’t know what we mean? Check out this performance clip he did for KAC Media in a live studio session. He performs some of his originals “Wake Up” and “Just You”, off his 2009 album American Me.
The Freshmen: Yongie Phresh Releases “Teach Me How To Yongie” Ft Decipher x Sickboi
Today we are debuting another new feature on a-Tunes, and it’s called The Freshmen. Basically this is where we feature artists who haven’t quite developed a following yet, and are still working on establishing themselves and making their official debut. Usually this will mean the artists featured here have not released any official singles, mixtapes, albums, or music videos, nor have they acquired a big fan base yet. But hey, we all have to start somewhere right? We love to see talented folks develop and grow.
But one more thing, it’s important that you the readers vote either thumbs up or thumbs down on these posts because this will help us decide which of these artists can graduate from The Freshmen and be a part of the regular rotation of a-Tunes Music News. So if you think these artists have what it takes, thumbs up! But if you don’t want to hear from em again, thumbs down!
Now, onto our first feature!
Yongie Phresh is a new face stemming out of the PA. After working closely with his fellow Philly rep Decipher, YP has decided to do his own thing, but not without the help of a few established acts. In this track he remixes the 2010 hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” by the Cali Swag District and puts his own spin on it – “Teach Me How to Yongie”. The song features veterans Decipher & Sickboi on the track. What do you guys think? Thumbs up or Thumbs down !?!
