The Freshmen: Dru B Shinin’ – The Admission One MVs

We think we’re a little over due for a new Freshmen feature, where we spotlight artists who haven’t quite developed a following yet, and are still working on establishing themselves. Remember it’s important that you, the readers, vote either thumbs up or thumbs down on these posts because this will help us decide which of these artists can graduate from The Freshmen and be a part of the regular rotation of a-Tunes Music News.

Dru B Shinin’ is a Hip-Hop artist representing the lone star state of Texas. Although he’s released a couple of projects to date, they’ve mostly remained under the radar and out of the greater public eye. He is aiming to change that with the protion of his The Admission One EP - released last year. What makes his promotional efforts unique is that he’s opted to release an 8 part music video, one of each track on the EP. That’s a lot of time, effort, and material so the question is; did the gamble pay off? The MV’s themselves tend to be fairly simple, straight forward and nothing fancy. As for the songs themselves, he has a chill laid back vibe that I think many could enjoy. But nevermind my assumptions… what say you?

Don’t forget you have the power! Vote thumbs up if you want us to continue sharing more material from Dru B Shinin’, thumbs down if you’ve seen enough. You can watch the other 7 MV’s and vote after the break.

Michelle Martinez Shares MYX-Rated Live Performance & Interview

MYX-Rated is a great show that spotlights some incredible artists on channel MYX. Here is a great little segment they did on Michelle Martinez where she sang “Euphoria”, “Crushin”, and “Nobody but U” live, accompanied by Summerbreeze on guitar of course. This isn’t your average webcam/flip/iphone/fan-cam footage… it’s crystal clear HDTV quality – giving you an opportunity to see how good Michelle can look and sound. Great clip! You can find the songs off her album Adrenaline.

Bambu Releases Exact Change + Bonus EP Short Changed

A few years back Bambu dropped the album …Exact Change… including the singles “Quit” and “Crooks and Rooks” and “Seven Months” among others. But he has decided to re-release it and dub it “reloaded” and it dropped today. However, to commemorate the re-release, he’s thrown in a bonus EP he calls Short Change - an additional 7 tracks for you to enjoy. The album is available through a number of retailers including iTunes, Amazon & Bandcamp in digital form, or as a CD from Beatrock.com. The choice is completely up to you.

JRA Remixes Frank Ocean’s “Novacane”

Frank Ocean is one of those artists that has been gaining a lot of momentum lately, a likely reason why JRA took notice and decided to remix Novacane and put his own vocal styling down on it. JRA’s version is a stripped down, all acoustic rendition that is as equally enjoyable as the original. You can DL the song for free here.

Erika David Remixes “Look at Me Now” [Free DL]

Although it’s not quite as impressive as this girl’s cover, Erika David still managed to impress me with her little remix of Chris Brown’s Look at Me Now. Not only does she sing but even throws in her own (but heavily inspired by the original) rap verse to boot. Not too shabby. It’s a free DL if you provide your e-mail at her website.

Jin Releases the Sincerely Yours EP [Free DL]

As promised, Jin has dropped a brand new EP entitled “Sincerely Yours”, completely free for the fans. It’s a 5 track release featuring some new material – most of which he’s shown a preview of in some form or another via Youtube. Get the release now as a free DL here. You can catch the back cover after the jump.

Adam WarRock Interviews w/ Hyphen Magazine

Kollaboration ATL 2011 winner Adam WarRock sat down for an interview with the great people at Hyphen Magazine, talking a little bit about his upbringing, decision to pursue music, style, influences and more. It’s a great primer for those not too familiar with the “nerdcore” Hip-Hop rapper. Be sure to read the rest over at Hyphen Mag or after the break.

Dawen Translates Rebecca Black’s “Friday” to Chinese

It’s exactly as the title suggests. The very talented Dawen decided to flex his bi-lingual muscle and translate the inane but infamously popular song “Friday” by Rebecca Black into Chinese; “for the 1 billion people or so who might understand the words”. The funniest thing about this is that he makes the song a lot more palatable than the original… I suppose it helps that I can’t grasp the stupidity of the lyrics when in another language. Dawen’s the man!
