The Kilahertz, a group featuring Trek Life, Jason Yang, Speeshbeats & DJ Buddy, have just dropped the MV for the track “I’m a King”. DO NOT sleep on this because it’s def one of the dopest songs/videos I’ve seen in a while. The integration of violin & Hip-Hop is always hypnotic, and Jason Yang killed it in this track. Props to everyone else involved with the project too, there was no weak link. I get so hype when genres blend so seamlessly. The track is available on iTunes and is worth every penny of the 99 cent price tag.

IAMMEDIC Releases 3rd Song from Album ‘I Am’ – “Chasing Phantoms”
IAMMEDIC just can’t seem to stop giving away freebies from their upcoming album I Am. This one definitely has a different feel from some of their past releases, bu I can appreciate the switch up. Shogunna Reportedly Arrested & Detained
Details are a bit sparse but folks close to the rapper known as Shogunna have taken to twitter to spread the word that he has been arrested and is currently being detained. Unfortunately, this is not Shogun’s first brush with the law. We have no official details to report at this time but it’s always with a heavy heart when we have to share such difficult news regarding our artists. We wish Shogunna the best during these trying times and hope he is able to move past all of this very soon.

PaperDoll Debuts the MV for “You Can’t Stop It”
It’s been months since we’ve seen or heard from PaperDoll, but thankfully that’s just changed. The rock band has just released their MV for the song “You Can’t Stop It”. The MV concept is akin to taking Gloria Estefan’s “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” and putting a a rock spin on it. It’s a fun MV with very sharp visuals though a bit stylistically plain. However I’m glad to see the band continue to make moves and exhibit their talent.
Mike-Dash-E Releases MV for “Ripped”
This video has been due for quite some time now, with “Ripped” first debuting back in September of last year, and a MV preview dropped in November but the video from Mike-Dash-E is finally here. The visuals are par for the course, and the song remains a heavy hitter though overall it’s not the most creative MV I’ve ever seen. For those that are interested, the song can be found on his album Dash with Me.
Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans Goes Platinum
Well ain’t that shiny? Literally. It appears Bruno Mars can add a platinum plaque to his trophy case as his chart-smashing album Doo-wops & Hooligans has reportedly gone platinum. In this day and age, that is certainly quite the feat, especially for an entire album and not just a single. So for every fan who picked up the LP because they loved “Just the Way You Are“, or “Grenade” or “The Lazy Song” or whatever…. you were a part of this milestone. We’d like to extend a HUGE congrats to Bruno. It’s an accomplishment well deserved!

Worst Ever: Sno – “Eyes Like a Chinese”
Sigh. It’s never good when we can post two “Worst Ever” features in one week. But this one definitely takes the cake. SNO, a group affiliated with Three 6 Mafia, has a new joint called “Eyes Like a Chinese”. I mean… really?!
For the unintiated, squinty eyes are a tell-tale sign of someone who’s consumed a fair amount of marijuana. Some refer to it as having “Chinese eyes” or in this case, “Eyes like a Chinese”. Now, perhaps I’m being too uptight but when a table full of people, none of whom appear to be Asian, sit there eating with chopsticks while making various Asiatic references along with numerous appearances of the “slant-eye pose”, it’s hard for me not to feel offended.
AM Kidd Shares “I Can’t Stay”
Here’s another clip where AM Kidd does what he does best, some introspective, piano driven rap. Perhaps I’m just tiring of his style, or maybe this song doesn’t have the charm of some of his other works, but I’m starting to think too many of his tracks sound alike in content and composition. Dare I say, it’s beginning to come off as “emo”? I commend him on his ability to smash through genre’s and create his own niche, but a switch up couldn’t hurt.
City Boy Drops the MV for “Na Na Na Na”
The “City” of Illmocity”, City Boy, has a new MV for ya. The visuals are for his song “Na Na Na Na” and is more of a street video than a full out production. There’s a montage of footage including cameos from freshKiDD, Bao Le and more. It’s not a bad listen, and the video is serviceable for it’s purpose though not incredibly memorable.
