Showdown: Erin Paula vs Sam Hart vs New Heights

Adele is one of those rare artists that managed to achieve wide-spread critical acclaim and with her recent album, breakthrough mainstream success. So it’s understandable that we’ve seen our fair share of covers of her songs – especially of “Someone Like You” and “Rolling in the Deep”. The latter is the subject of our latest Showdown feature, and we know it’s been a long time so for those who forgot this is how it works….

We take artists that have recently covered or remixed the same song and compare them for fun’s sake just to see which one you thought did the original the most justice. Today’s Showdown pits Erin Paula (of former Rin on the Rox fame) against Sam Hart (most notable for the Mario Kart song) against a member of Seattle band New Heights. So readers, who takes home the bragging rights?

Erin Paula

Sam Hart

New Heights

Did you like Erin’s faithful cover that stuck true to the original? Or Sam’s melancholy, haunting rendition? What about New Height’s bluesy acoustic take? Vote for your favorite!

[Single Release] Infinity Funk Project x Hopie Spitshard x 6 Fingers – “Headknock” [Free DL]

Here’s some new tunage courtesy of Infinity Funk Project x Hopie Spitshard x 6 Fingers called “Headknock”. To learn more I’ll let you read the description below but just know it’s hard hitting song (beat by 6 Fingers) with a raw boom-bap type of feel to it. The hook is the weakest link in my opinion but I’m liking the song overall.

The debut single Headknock feat. Hopie Spitshard & produced by 6fingers from our upcoming EP “A Man Down” will be available for FREE DOWNLOAD for a limited time. [Single Release] Jin x Toestah – “AIYA”

Jin has turned his catchphrase “AIYA” into a full out track featuring his label-mate Toestah. His love for the word has taken his fans by storm as the following video contains hundreds of photos of fans holding up the official logo. I’m liking the fact that he’s getting his fans involved and dropping new music but honestly I can see myself getting sick of this song pretty quickly. But maybe I’m just a grumpy old man. If you feel different, then support the dude and pick up the single on iTunes & Amazon now!

[Music Video] Magnetic North x Taiyo Na x Jin – “I Got My”

The folks behind the Home:Word album, Magnetic North & Taiyo Na have finally put out the music video to their song “I Got My” featuring Jin. But I doubt you’re ready for what you’re about to see as the crew has dug deep and reached out to all their contacts, friends, affiliates, etc to be a part of this MV. There are cameos from the Blue Scholars, Denizen Kane, Conchita Campos, DFD, Christina Chung, FM, Thomas Apartment, James Ha, Vienna Teng, DanAKADan, El Gambina, Cynthia Lin, Dawen, Bambu, DJ Phatrick, Kiwi, Heather Park, Vudoo, Lyrics, Manifest, Alfa, AJ Rafael, Jay Legaspi and a whole lot more. Those are just some of the musicians, there are a ton of activists, media folk, dancers, artists, students, educators, and more who also had a role. This is easily one of the dopest concepts put to music and unifying MV’s I’ve seen all year. Great release.

[New Music] Kaile Goh – “Last Goodbye”

This is another cut called “Last Goodbye” off of Kaile‘s upcoming album. Video is edited decently though some of the effects were kind of cheesy. I’m loving the song though. Young Kaile really has a great recording voice for this genre. It looks like she has a solid team backing her too because the audio production values are pretty decent. You’ll find the lyrics after the break.

[Album Release] Adam WarRock – This Man… This Emcee!

Our favorite nerd-core MC and Kollaboration ATL winner Adam WarRock has just dropped his latest EP This Man… This Emcee!  The 6 track release continues to allow Adam WR to indulge himself with his penchant for comic books, making for what probably amounts to one of the most interesting listens you’ll hear all year. You have a variety of options for copping this one, including the usual suspects like iTunes & Amazon. However if you choose to go the bandcamp route, you will also recieve a bonus track exclusive remix.
