The multi-media Rock Opera is a full scale theatrical showcase that tackles an abstract story. You can find more information and promotional videos after the break. Just ‘Cause: An Asian Man’s Surprisingly Good Impression of E-40
This clip ain’t brand new but it’s still worth sharing. I’m sure most West Coast/Bay area Hip-Hop fans should be able to appreciate this one! E-40, one of the veterans and staples of NorCal Hip-Hop is a one of a kind carried by his unique flow, charisma, and vocabulary. But this Asian guy may be giving him a run for his money, performing a fairly spot-on impression of the MC, mannerisms and all. It’s an entertaining watch to say the least!
Rocky Rivera x Digital Martyrs Leak the North Bay Remix to “SF Retrospect”

At the end of this past Spring, Rocky Rivera dropped a project called the Pop Killer mixtape including the song “SF Retrospect” featuring Davinci; an ode to her home stomping grounds of the Bay. It never got pushed as a single but it’s been given the official remix treatment courtesy of Digital Martyrs, retaining the nostalgic feel of the original but still managing to switch up the sound. It’s a freebie so click here to listen for yourself.
Adam WarRock Re-Introduces “Smashed Gordon” & “PBR”

This is the last week of Adam WarRock’s Donation Drive Month campaign and he’s brought out some tracks from his older catalog to refresh and present to many for the first time. “Smashed Gordon” is the first cut with “PBR” on the flip side of this double single. AW is getting ready to go on a big tour soon so be sure to catch a show if he’s swinging by your area. You can find the liner notes for the song after the break. Showdown: J. Han of AMP vs City Boy
It’s been a good day, so what would you folks say to another edition of Showdown? This is where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.
Canadian rapper Drake has always been a popular pick for covers and remixes in Youtube-land and his song “Headlines” is no exception. We’ve seen countless renditions all over the internet but two of the more recent ones to cross our screens were by DMV’s J. Han (of AMP fame) and AZ’s City Boy. The two MCs went in different directions content wise so it made for an interesting contrast over the same instrumental.
It was kind of interesting to see both artists start slow and kick it into double time in the latter half, but overall I’d say their demeanor and styles are nuanced on separate ends of the spectrum. I guess the only question is which one fits your liking better? J. Han’s college-kid, more light-hearted charm? Or is it City Boy’s more menacing and tenacious energy?
You know what to do, vote away!
Promoters for Canadian Event Cancel Notorious MSG Show Due to Content
The Notorious MSG were never really… how shall I say this… family friend to say the least. Their brand of musical comedy has always been contingent upon outrageous schtick and and general tomfoolery, none of which could be deemed politically correct. Love it or hate it, that’s what makes the MSG, them. Needless to say, it appears that some promoters/organizers for an event in Toronto didn’t quite do their homework and pulled the plug on their 2nd of 2 scheduled appearances after they deemed the 1st too offensive.
Honestly, I think discernment and foresight are two invaluable qualities. If the MSG’s material wasn’t appropriate, so be it… but that should have been determined long before they ever set foot on the stage. Someone dropped the ball here.
TOKiMONSTA Featured in Spin’s “15 Must-Hear Acts at Electric Zoo Festival”

TOKiMONSTA is something of an artist’s artists. The common, average music consumer may not know of her but rest assured those in the industry – artists, journalists, and execs alike – are all paying attention. So it comes as little surprise to see her named as one of the 15 Must-Hear Acts at this coming weekend’s Electric Zee Festival in NY. Read on after the break for the quick feature on her, or head over to Spin yourself.
Sneak Peek at Verseatile’s Music Video for “Who We Are”
Verseatile is getting ready to unveil his next visual project for the single “Who We Are” off of his Worlds Apart EP from earlier this year. The original track features Manifest and JoAnne, the latter who will be definitely making an appearance based on the teaser above. No word if Mani is gonna feature too (considering he’s in the motherland ATM, but it wouldn’t be the first time Verse has released an MV without one of his co-stars. But speaking of JoAnne, some of you KPOP fans from the early 2000′s may find her vaguely familiar. It’s because nearly a decade ago she had a moderately successful albeit short career overseas as a budding young pop star. Check after the break for a reminder, but she’s sure grown up!
Melissa Polinar Re-Releases “I’m Ready”
Texas darling Melissa Polinar may have first shared this song in 2008 but it’s now available for purchase in a re-tooled and polished form. Polinar takes the song in a slightly more R&B influenced direction, adding a favorable nuanced sound to her acoustic soul repertoire. This time around it’s complete with harmonies and better quality… but we still need a studio version! But until then, this version can be yours for a paltry dollar via the bandcamp widget below.
