Thai of 454 Featured in XXL (September 2011)

It looks like D-Pryde wasn’t our only artist to get a mention in the latest (September ’11) issue of Hip-Hop mag XXL. Portland’s veteran MC, Thai (now of 454 fame), happened to find himself in the pages of the publication as well. Congrats to Thai! It’s about time his years of hard work was recognized on larger level.

The 27-year old rhymer is looking to put on for Portland, Oregon, and give a glimpse into the Asian underground lifestyle. Judging by the comments, he’s on the right path. “I don’t really remember anyone coming out of Portland, let alone a Vietnamese cat,” says DJ Skee, “with a little development behind him, I think That has potential.”

“You Left Me For That” MV Released by Paul Kim

Roughly two weeks after releasing the single “You Left Me For That“, Paul Kim has just pushed out the official music video as well. This project features some great cameos including Rapper/Comedian Traphik, Comedian David So, Actress Grace Su and more. Production values are on point too. Overall, I’d say this is an enjoyable watch and a great visual companion to the single.

David Choi Interviews w/ The Other Asians

TOA continues their great streak of in-depth, interesting interviews with artists from our community. The latest is none other than Youtube musician pioneer, David Choi. A lot of ground is covered here but mostly they focus on his experiences and insight on his career and the state of the industry as a whole. Plus there are some tidbits in there about his upcoming third album, due in October. You can catch the read along with a ton of fun underwater photos from their shoot over at The Other Asians website.

G*LEE Interviews w/ KarmaLoop TV

Multi-faceted Hip-Hop artist/producer G*LEE spoke with KarmaLoop TV for a quick little interview that covered a range of subjects from her upbringing & early love for music, to her numerous projects in the works including an album with famed producer Illmind. It’s a good look to get that scoop with KarmaLoop, so hopefully this is a sign of many more big things to come from the NY based musician.

Zee Avi Releases MV for “The Book of Morris Johnson” and Live Performances from ‘ghostbird’

Fairly recently, Zee Avi unveiled the MV for the lead single off her ghostbird album, “The Book of Morris Johnson“. From a style perspective, I enjoyed the interesting color palette but the whole thing was a little too psychedelic to rate as one of my favorites. Fairys, belly dancing, faux jungles, abundant fog… can’t say this is what I envision when listening to her brand of folk-pop.

The next clip is a 20 minute compilation video of various performances of music from Avi’s recently released ghostbird album. She goes through a fair share of the catalog from her sophomore album so don’t miss this one!

Adam WarRock Drops “Commedia Dell’Arte” & “The Best of Me”

Continuing his Donation Drive Month Campaign, Adam WarRock drops another double single in the form of “Commedia Dell’Arte”/”The Best of Me”. He switches gears a little bit and gets real tangible, relaying his various experiences in the music industry and trying to make it in that career lane. Both tracks are a little more personal than some of his other work but it makes me appreciate it that much more. Find out how you can contribute a donation & also DL the song here.

Passion Officially Announces Debut Album & New EP; Invites You to Help

San Francisco’s Passion, one of the early staples to rise in fame via the internet (before Youtube!), has surprisingly never released a full-length album. Sure, he’s had demos and EPs and song leaks here and there but now’s the time for him to finally reach the milestone of releasing his debut LP after 9 years into his music career. Overdue to say the least. His ambition doesn’t end there though, as also planning to drop an EP the same day! The LP will be titled For More Than a Feeling, and the EP, Pixelated.

Passion will be working closely with musician/producer Jesse Barrera for these projects but of course is looking to raise some fundage to help alleviate the costs. Check out the video below to see how you can contribute to these records and help Passion reach an important step in his career.

Blush Interviews w/ Dave Audé’s On SiriusXM’s BPM & ChannelAPA

Multi-cultural all-Asian female pop group Blush chatted a little bit with Dave Audé on his Audacious radio show on SiriusXM’s BPM channel. It looks like they are slowly but surely building a buzz for themselves. You can take a listen to the 2 and a half minute clip via the widget below.

They also have a clip with ChannelAPA where they go a little more indepth, taking roughly 10 minutes to share just a little bit more about themselves, their music, and what’s coming up next. Just a note, you prob wouldn’t be able to guess who is talking based on their accent and inflection alone. This is truly an eclectic mix of ambitious, talented women.
