Prometheus Brown & Bambu Feature On La’s “Diamonds”

It’s yet another collab with Pro & Bam on a track together, only both of them are filling in guest spots for the song “Diamonds” from La’s new album Sealab 2012. La aka Language Arts is another Seattle artist who is perhaps best known for his battle skills. He’s put together a strong track and did well by getting Geo & Bambu to drop a verse too. I’m diggin’ the soul sample too.

April Chase Performs “Time Won’t Tell” For MYX TV

For those (such as myself) who haven’t had the opportunity to check out April Chase live, this could be the next best thing. MYX TV has uploaded the band’s in-studio performance of “Time Won’t Tell” from their EP Still Breathing that dropped earlier this year. Oddly enough, I didn’t find it to be quite as charming as the first time I heard it in the unplugged performance they recorded with The Mighty Fifty a while back. Go figure.

JRA Gives You a Glimpse of an “Alternate Reality”

How about some JRA for your Thursday afternoon? Oswald Aquino Jr provides a sneak peek at a song called “Alternate Reality”, due for an official single release in the near future. It has all the characteristics of a JRA acoustic R&B ballad – that’s a good thing. Let’s hope this means there’s an album in the works too.

Showdown: Jae Jin vs Stacy Dudero

Why don’t we cap off the night with a little Showdown? This is where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

Frank Ocean has really made a name for himself over the course of the past year, so it’s been no surprise to see more and more covers of his music. Recently, two R&B singers – Jae Jin & Stacy Dudero – gave their own renditions of Ocean’s “Thinking About You”. We thought it’d be interesting to pit the Male vs Female vocals against each other, so check them out below.

Jae Jin

Stacy Dudero

On a macro level, there are a lot of similarities between the two renditions – but the differences are in the details. One artist took a few more R&B vocal liberties while the other stayed a little closer to the original. One had much crisper quality. One artist took a more cool, laid back approach with the other inserting just a touch more energy. So this one could be largely left to presences rather than raw tangible and quantitative differences.

So I guess the only question left at this point is… which one are you feeling more?

Watch Poreotics Live Performance from The Tony T Sessions

Admittedly, us not being a Dance oriented site, we don’t offer a wide breadth of coverage on all the Asian-Am crews out there. Quest tends to take the majority of the spotlight. But here’s a little something different from Poreotics, perhaps most notably known for being the champions of the 5th season of America’s Best Dance Crew. The following clip is from their recent appearance at the last Tony T Sessions charity concert – exhibiting some of the robotic popping and locking that they are so well known for.
