Michelle Martinez was recently featured on an article for 7×7 called San Francisco’s Almost Famous Youtube Sensations. The post discusses the use of YT as a medium and how it’s played a part in many aspiring artists’ lives. Being a bay native, Martinez was included due to her rising popularity and following that has largely resulted from the online streaming site. MR. MN, Lil Crazed, has dropped a brand new music video for his song “Uh Oh” off his Chapter 3: Liberation – The Lost Tracks release from October of last year. They manage to turn what would have been a plain video, into a pretty decent watch courtesy of editing and some typography to spice things up. Audio production was handled by the ubiquitous Smash Hitta.
Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.
Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. Another important note is this video is that NONE of this would be possible without the backing and work of afterschoolspecial who need their due credit- Jaylen Green, Keane Aranita, Todd Olson, Brian Figueroa, and Victor Velasquez.
The quintet from South Korea known as the Wonder Girls have debuted their latest single for the Western market, “The DJ is Mine” featuring the Nick Cannon mentored group, The School Gyrls. It’s an international cheerleader effect, represented to the utmost. As we previously mentioned, the video saw it’s debut at CES but is also now available for viewing on Youtube. The project is part of the NickTeens feature film, “The Wonder Girls”, due out in February. It’s a catchy track, though if you’re not feeling it, keep in mind this is tailored to a youth audience.
Andrew Huang continues to be confined to any one particular genre, with his latest releasing serving as an ode to the 8-bit video games of yesteryear. The project is appropriately titled Console, and the instrumental collection of 27 tracks invoke a sense of nostalgia in all of it’s coin-grabbing, star consuming, sword singing, princess-saving, barrel-dodging, a-b button, blow-in-a-cartridge, and don’t-trip-on-the-power-cord-or-you’ll-lose-your-progress-forever glory. Check it out via the bandcamp widget below.
It’s been unveiled that David Choi is in the process of shooting the music video for “Missing Piece” off his most recent album Forever and Ever. What is especially interesting is that Ellen Wong (Knives Chau from Scott Pilgrim) is starring and the project is directed by Ross Ching (directed for Kina, Clara C, AJ, etc). We can’t wait to see the final cut when it drops!
Heading to the airport to pick up Ellen Wong! We're shooting a MV tomorrow! Can you guess for which song? Clue: rhymes w/ "kissing teeth" — David Choi (@davidchoimusic) January 10, 2012
Everyone who guessed "Missing Piece" you're correct! Going to bed early tonight! Ellen call time: 7am — David call time: 12pm. YES!!! — David Choi (@davidchoimusic) January 10, 2012
It was a rough weekend for Michael Nguyen-Stevenson, better known to most as the Young Money artist Tyga. The recording artist was arrested in Las Vegas during a routine traffic stop that yielded outstanding warrants stemming from prior traffic violations but was released the next day. In perspective, this is a relatively minor incident, but serves as a reminder that you gotta tie up loose ends or face the risk of unnecessary setbacks.
“Rack City” rapper Tyga was arrested in Las Vegas over the weekend, according to TMZ.
The MC, born Michael Stevenson, was reportedly booked on an outstanding warrant after being flagged for a traffic violation. He had an alleged four previous incidents, including driving without a license, enough for a warrant to be issued.
He was reportedly released from the Clark County Detention Center the following day.
The musician’s second album, “Careless World: Rise of the Last King,” is due for release on Jan. 24 on Young Money, Cash Money and Universal Republic, and will feature appearances from Drake and Lil Wayne, among others.
