I can’t quite remember the last “new” unoriginal material we’ve heard from Sophia Moon, so even if this one isn’t fresh out the booth, I’m more than glad that it’s been shared with us. I’m more accustomed to hearing Sophia on a more Pop oriented tilt, but “Compared to You” has a decidedly late 90′s/early 2000′s R&B tip that begs for a rapper to jump on as a remix. I always got a soft spot for that smooth R&B/Pop sans auto-tune and that doesn’t sound like a throw-away record from a Hip-Hop album.

Andrew Huang Releases 4-Track EP – ‘Musculature’

Andrew Huang can always be counted on for a steady stream of new releases. This leap year brings us a 4 song EP called Musculature from the artist fondly known as Songs to Wear Pants to. Get it via the Bandcamp widget below. This one seems to be sans-vocals, so if you want to get your instrumental on, this would be a fair choice. I guess when you have a mind like Andrew, you can never stop creating.
Snapshot: Sonia (of Jayesslee) & Andy’s Engagement Shoot
If you heard the simultaneous groan of men all across the world last week, it was likely due to the announcement that one half of the Youtube darling sisters known as Jayesslee is now engaged. That’s right folks, the “Ess” (Sonia) is now ready to get hitched to her beau Andy – and for those willing to share in her happiness you can now view a number of pictures from their engagement session by Jenny Sun! There’s even a video montage that you can check out below. Be sure to view the many other fantastic pictures at Jenny Sun’s blog! We wish the two of them nothing but the best, congrats!
Dumbfounded Drops MV for “Cool and Calm”
DFD presents a new music video for “Cool and Calm” off his self titled album from last year. This is one of those cases where Dumb and his team were able to do a lot visually with little. Nevermind that there are no exotic locales or expensive budgets, this video is carried out by clean and smart edits – taking on an almost minimalist approach similar to the song it’s set to.
Bambu Features for DJ Muggs on “Snap Yo Neck Back” with Dizzee Rascal
Bambu once again teams up with DJ Muggs for the latter artist’s track from the upcoming Bass For Your Face LP. The electronica/dub-step influenced track mixed it up with it’s heavy use of the classic 808 drum, and adds some flavor via the UK courtesy of Dizzee Rascal. Both the song and video are fairly bombastic, and that’s a good thing. But I gotta tell ya, I never expected Bam to jump on a project that sounds like this!

Jargon Shares “Legs On My Shoulders” ft Lizzy
This new song by Jargon is for our more mature readers, as it’s a tune dedicated to the relations part of relationships… if you catch my drift. Those looking for some new tunes for the bedroom playlist might enjoy this one, with a guest appearance by Lizzy to offer some perspective from the other side of the sheets. I don’t see this one becoming that song that puts Jargon on the map, but it has it’s place.
Showdown: Azuré vs Toestah vs Nump Trump vs Mike B vs On Fire Entertainment
Why don’t we indulge ourselves in a little leap year Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.
Those that are heavy Hip-Hop listeners should be familiar with “Stay Schemin’”, a song by Rick Ross featuring Drake & French Montana. The beat is too sick to ignore, and it would seem a lot of other MCs would agree with me – hence the proliferation of remixes all over Youtube/Soundcloud/Bandcamp and the like. Today, we have 5 in particular we’d like you to listen to/watch and let us know which one is the best flip. Interestingly enough, all the rappers in this Showdown are from the West, repping the whole cost from San Diego to Seattle.
Nump Trump x Young Gully
Mike B x Yungin
Alrighty, now that you’ve seen them all, which artist head you hitting replay and which had you hitting skip? Vote for your favorite in the widget below, whether it’s for Daygo’s Azuré, Toestah, Nump Trump of 454, Mike B, or the OFE crew. Remember, the winner gets an all expense paid trip to… your heart!
Decipher, Dumbfoundead, Lyricks, Rekstizzy Share Thoughts on LINSANITY, V-Day & the Hoekstra Ad with Gumship
This piece by Gumship isn’t a conventional interview, which is probably a good thing considering that the board they went to for opinions in their February Recap isn’t your conventional collection of MCs. Decipher, Dumb, Lyricks, and Rekstizzy all contribute their two pennies on a wide range of topics including #LINSANITY, past Valentine’s Day experiences, what they would do with Facebook money and more. Check it out in full over at Gumship, it’s one of the more entertaining reads we’ve come across in a while!

Baiyu Unveils MV for “Take a Number”
Fan Fair may have dropped nearly a year ago, but NY’s Baiyu still has a number of surprises from the project for us. We were given a sneak peak of the most recent example, a music video for “Take a Number” – a song we first heard back in November of 2010. But the song can hardly considered dated as Baiyu uses the upbeat song as an opportunity to debut her best looking visual yet. This was a crisp watch, for sure!
