The Blue Scholars Release the “Seijun Suzuki” MV

This is the latest MV from Seattle’s hip hop favorites, Blue Scholars. The track is “Seijun Suzuki”, from their Cinemetropolis album. I haven’t checked it out myself but I’ll be sure to share my thoughts once I have.

[update] Clean, stylistic cinematography that matches the decidedly off-centre content of the song. The incorporation of Samurai swords was the icing on the proverbial unpredictable cake that is this video. It’s like a weird dream… with street cred.

[Music Video] Blue Scholars – “Fou Lee”

Fresh off the release of the Blue Scholars’ latest album, Cinemetropolis, they have a new music video for the single “Fou Lee”. The duo continues to expand their sound and push boundaries with their music although I was a bit underwhelemed by the MV. Although it’s an interesting watch with some fun moments, the bulk of it is also a bit uneventful. Get both the song and full album on bandcamp now or iTunes & Amazon starting tomorrow.

Blue Scholars Perform for Knocksteady

Dumb and company put on a podcast series called Knocksteady live, and last week featured Seattle’s Hip-Hop duo the Blue Scholars. They came through to interview, perform, and just plain chill. You can plain DL the entire podcast on iTunes but for your A/V pleasure they’ve posted up the footage from the live in-studio performance. Can’t wait for their Cinemetropolis album to drop.

Blue Scholars Start Kickstarter Campaign for Cinemetropolis

It’s been four years since their last full length album, and the Blue Scholars want to return in style. They have a new album in the works called Cinemetropolis and they intend to drop a number of visual projects and music videos to accompany the LP. Their albums thus far have all been very strong collections of work and I have high hopes for this one too. Like all kickstarter campaigns, there are various incentives based on the dollar amount you are able to contribute ranging from a simple thanks to a credit in the liner notes of the album. If you’re interesting in helping see this project fully reach actualization, visit their KS page here.

Blue Scholars Announce New Album Name & Preview Songs

Seattle’s Blue Scholars have officially announced the name of their new album – Cinemetropolis. On top of that, they performed a few of the songs from the upcoming release at a recent gig that you can peep here. The titles of the track’s they previewed are “Slick Watts”, “Seijun Suzuki”, “Lalo Schifrin”, and “Hussein”. It’s a pretty dope set and the new cuts sound great; I’m really digging the produciton.
