Gowe Shares a Preview of the Upcoming ‘We Are HyperGiants’ Album

It’s been a couple years since Gowe came off his stint on Kollaboration Seattle. Since that time, he’s slowly grown his fan base, linked up with fellow artists, and started expanding his reach beyond Sea-town. All of those factors are culminating in the form of a debut albumWe Are HyperGiants. The project is expected to drop on June 17th, and will include some supporting work by Travis Graham (New Heights), Paul Kim, Jennifer Chung, Erin Kim & Sam Ock! You can check out a preview of the album via the following clip.

David So x Paul Kim x Jason Chen x Travis Graham Form The Runs

DANG. OK, I know we don’t really post about a single cover anymore, usually grouping them together in our round-ups instead, but this is one that SHOULD not go unnoticed. David So, together with Paul Kim, Jason Chen & Travis Graham (of New Heights), have formed an unofficial group known as ‘The Runs’ (Check below for the reasoning behind the name). The four of them tackle the classic Boyz II Men song, “On Bended Knee” and they kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllt it. Slayed. Destroyed. Annihilated. If you’re a Youtube star, this song is now off limits because you’re not gonna top this.

This is the most random thing that we decided to do. We are the RUNS cause our music will make you shit yourself? LOL!

Concept: David So
Produced, Arranged, and Vocal Produced by: Paul Kim
Engineered and Mixed by: Travis Graham and Jason Chen

The Cover MVs Youtube Round-Up – 4/23/12

The first round-up for the last full week of April is a collection of cover music videos. The bread and butter of most Youtube artists are their cover videos, and sometimes they go the extra mile and put together a music video set to the tune/instrumental written by another. This particular batch of videos happen to be mostly of the R&B and Hip-Hop variety, but a couple of Pop records found their way into the mix too.

Gowe Reveals Trailer for “First Flight” ft Travis Graham

Sea-town’s Gifted on West East is hard at work on his debut album, now officially titled We Are HyperGiants, and though it’s not due till June, he’s given us a sneak peak of one of the singles – “First Flight”. The song features his fellow hometown musical brethren, Travis Graham of New Heights, and you can get a glimpse of things to come with the video teaser (by Ed Park) he posted up today. Looks like we have a lot to look forward to.

As much as I like the East Coast, sometimes I have to admit that the West is wear a lot of great moments happen. Like the above group shot where a lot of favorite artists of yours and mine all crossed paths at a recent event, bringing together so many people under one roof. I think we’ll look back at times like these and recognize that it was the community that empowered our artists to find an international platform. We can only hope this is the beginning for the likes of David So, Clara Chung, Jayesslee, Cathy Nguyen, Travis & New Heights, and Joseph Vincent.

Say Cheese!

New Heights Work with David So on New Comedy Short

I’ll readily admit I’m a bug fan of David So‘s brand of comedy (and music). In his latest short, he stars in the role of the character Kim Jong Illah, where he takes a step into the world of Pop-Rock by working with the band New Heights. This is faux documentary time, similar in style to The Office or Parks & Recreation. Wait for a ridiculous rendition of “Take Me On” at the end, where David So sings in character.

New Heights Unveils Acoustic Remix to “Someday” with Cathy Nguyen

New Heights? Good. Cathy Nguyen? Good. NH x CN? Good. Those that picked up the New Heights album Something to Believe In may already be familiar with the song “Someday”, but the band is presenting a new rendition today, complete with a quasi-MV. This time around, they’ve brought in Cathy Nguyen for some supporting vocals, making this acoustic version just a little bit sweeter. The new acoustic mix is available from the usual suspects of digital retailers.

The Frank Ocean Covers Round-Up – 2/3/12

Frank Ocean has been a rather popular artist to cover recently, so we threw together a quick round-up of covers by Jeremy Passion, Maribelle Anes, Erin Kim, Verseatile, New Heights, Andy Ha, and Jae Jin. There are two songs here, “Thinking About You” and “We All Try”, and some chose to switch things up while others played it by the book – singing over the official instrumental. Enjoy your Friday!

The Youtube Collab Round-Up – 1/31/12

We figured why not end the last day of the first month with a new batch of Youtube covers. This round-up is another sampling platter of collaborations among different artists. There’s a lot of acoustic music in this particular grouping, with one particular exception. As always, the production qualities vary wildly but there should be something for everyone to enjoy.
