About a year ago, the cello rock duo known as Oak & Gorski shared a song called “Find Me Soon“. Since then, the song was never given an official release until earlier this week. The song is now available for purchase from Amazon & iTunes, and those who want to take a listen can do so via Spotify. The song is classic Oak & Gorski, so fans likely won’t be disappointed with the release.
Acoustic Cello-Rock duo Oak & Gorski have returned with a new single, the comparatively bright “Sounds Like Love”. This is the same song we shared a preview of back in December. Ken & Ed definitely went in a more up-tempo direction, a welcome change of pace for the pair. You will find the simpe lyric video above along with a way to DL the song pro-bono via the Bandcamp widget below – for a limited time of course.
Ken Oak and Ed Gorski have something new cooking up in the oven, and it’s a track called “Sounds Like Love”. They seem to have went in a more upbeat direction – not that I’m complaining, it’s just an interesting contrast to their usual repertoire. Also of interest, it should be noted that they have gone with a full band for the recording of this track. The release date is simply “Winter 2012″ right now, but I imagine but they mean the top of next year and hopefully not the end.
It’s officially the day before Thanksgiving. Not that has anything to do with this post… but regardless! Today we have a collection of Youtube covers by male artists that are actually showcasing their rendition of songs by Top 40 female artists. Mickey Cho, Mike Isberto, New Heights, Andrew Huang, and Oak & Gorski have all made roll call and give their best to do the original artists justice. Which one is your favorite?
Duo Oak & Gorski have a new MV out for their song “New York” from their album Love Destroyer. But the story behind the production and editing of this video is a little different from your average music visual.
CAKE LIVE Sponsors Camp RED! Here is one of the many music videos from Camp RED! CAKE LIVE provided an array of talented musicians, artists and bands to participate in the music video production segment of the camp. This video was shot on the RED Epic and edited on Adobe CS 5.5 – all by kids aged 9-15! We think they did an amazing job!
Honestly, we’d have to agree. The young team behind this video did an excellent job. Props to them on a well-produced video. I’m pretty sure all I was doing at that age was play Goldeneye on N64.
Check out this performance of “Love Destroyer” from their album of the same name on Threesome Nightly, a talk radio show. As per usual, Ed works his magic on the six string with Ken taking the helm behind his trusty cello. This completely un-plugged performance could have used some wider video shots but I suppose it’ll have to do.
Acoustic duo band Oak & Gorskirevealed a cover MV of “Pumped Up Kicks”, originally by Foster the People, late last month. Well, the song can now be officially yours too for adding to your music player of choice. You have the usual plethora of digital distribution options that you can find below. They certainly do the song justice though I’m honestly still a little perplexed about how a track with such dark subject matter can be doing so well on the charts. But darn it if it ain’t catchy. You can stream the track below!
This is a cool lo-fi clip of Oak & Gorski performing with singer and famed song-writer Teron Beal on a piece they co-wrote together called “Yo I Hate My Life’. I’d love to hear this song recorded as it seems to be a great blending of genres, O&G’s Cello Folk-Rock & Beal’s R&B. Teron handles the vocals while Oak & Gorski back him up with a soothing instrumental. You can see it all in the clip below.
I think the time is right for another edition of Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover the same songs and vote for the one we think pulled it off better. Today’s match features the refreshing young college student Cilla Chan pitted against the veteran ‘cello-rock’ duo, Oak & Gorski. They each give their rendition of “Pumped Up Kicks” by indie-pop band, Foster the People. Let’s see how the two versions stack up against each other.
Cilla’s vocal gives an almost R&B/Pop vibe to it with some more vocal flair. On the other hand Oak & Gorski provides a more polished but subdued final product, anchored by Ken Oak’s signature cello. It’s a little tough to make the call on this one but either way it was a refreshing competition because they didn’t cover one of the many over-saturated top 40 hits that everyone seems to be doing lately (*cough*Lighters*cough*How to Love*cough). Cast your vote for your favorite below!
Crazy to think it’s already been 5 years since Oak & Gorski, then known as the Ken Oak Band, released the album Vienna to Venice. Though not the first album put out by the group, it was the first album that they released solely as a duo. Ever since then it’s been just the two of them – hence the re-christening of the name from Ken Oak Band to Oak & Gorski. It seems like they are making this a short run, limited release so if you never got a chance to hear some of their early work… now is as opportune time as any. Buy it here.
