The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 5/3/12

We did it before, a couple months back; bringing you a collection of remixes done by artists that chose to forgo creating a video too. Instead we get a mixture of static images, cover art, and if we’re lucky, a slide show of some type. This has been a staple of the digital age for Hip-Hop artists, as it’s too time consuming to make a video for all their mixtape-ready songs – whether or not you feel they are cutting corners is a completely different story. At the very least you can listen to the following in the background, knowing your not missing much by not paying attention to the (lack of) visuals!

Misfit Remixes “Sail” by Awol Nation

Ed-Two Remixes “The Recipe” by Kendrick Lamar x Dr. Dre

Thai Remixes “Donald Trump” by Mac Miller

J-ricz x Sizzle Remix “Live My Life” by Far East Movement x Justin Bieber

On Fire Entertainment x Jargon x Mike Musni Present MV for “Dreams”

What do you get when you mix On Fire‘s Loe, L-Dubbs, Rocky Sandoval, Miss TLu, Jargon and Mike Musni of IBU? The answer would be “Dreams”, a new collaborative tracks between all the artists, complete with music video. There’s a big variety of talent here from emcees to singers but there is a downside. It looks like they chose a non-exclusive beat from producer Johnny Juliano. How do I know this? It’s the exact same one used by D-League for “Big Dreams, 2Pac Nightmares“. I guess that’s the risk when hitting up popular producers. The song will be included on the soon-to-be-released Sex, Drugs, Rap & Soul.

Showdown: Azuré vs Toestah vs Nump Trump vs Mike B vs On Fire Entertainment

Why don’t we indulge ourselves in a little leap year Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

Those that are heavy Hip-Hop listeners should be familiar with “Stay Schemin’”, a song by Rick Ross featuring Drake & French Montana. The beat is too sick to ignore, and it would seem a lot of other MCs would agree with me – hence the proliferation of remixes all over Youtube/Soundcloud/Bandcamp and the like. Today, we have 5 in particular we’d like you to listen to/watch and let us know which one is the best flip. Interestingly enough, all the rappers in this Showdown are from the West, repping the whole cost from San Diego to Seattle.

Azuré

Toestah

Nump Trump x Young Gully

Mike B x Yungin

On Fire Entertainment

Alrighty, now that you’ve seen them all, which artist head you hitting replay and which had you hitting skip? Vote for your favorite in the widget below, whether it’s for Daygo’s Azuré, Toestah, Nump Trump of 454, Mike B, or the OFE crew. Remember, the winner gets an all expense paid trip to… your heart!

The Songs About Jeremy Lin Round-Up

If you are Asian-American or have a fair amount Asian-American friends, you may have noticed that NBA’s latest feel-good story, Jeremy Lin, has been a huge hot topic as of late. He’s become a starter for the NY Knicks and has had some great games for several consecutive nights.

Well, the rising basketball star has certainly inspired a lot of people, including some of our artists. Already we’re beginning to see songs about Mr. Lin and we suspect it isn’t over yet. So this post will serve as a running collection of the songs, in reverse chronological order of release (Newest at the top). So far it’s Gowe and Jin, but I’m sure there”ll be more to follow!

On Fire Ent Offers to “Take You to the Store”

“Take You to the Store” is another cut from On Fire Entertainment‘s upcoming Sex, Drugs, Rap and Soul. The track’s instrumental has that all too familiar sample from Journey, flipped into an upbeat, radio-friendly track that is of the lighter fare. I’ll let you decide if that formula is right for you, go ahead and take a listen via the Youtube clip.

The Remix MV Round-Up – 12/16/11

Ah, the notorious Youtube cover. A staple of nearly every artist and the increasing bane of my existence. Well, it’s not that bad but it’s hard to listen to the same songs over and over again – especially when I already hear a lot of them on the radio all the time. But at least the following bunch of artists decided to put a good amount of effort into their covers… they put together actual music videos for their work. Now some of the production values are higher than others, but bottom line is these artists went the extra mile to entertain you on both the audio and visual fronts. And I’ll take any switch up I can get.

Welcome to another episode of Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

With Drake being undoubtedly one of the hottest acts in the business right now, it’s no wonder why his music has been covered and remixed by artists thousands of times over. For this installment of our Showdown series we’ve decided to highlight a few recent remixes of Drake’s song “The Motto” featuring Lil Wayne. This one is a three way battle with On Fire & Rocky in one corner, Hopie repping the fairer sex on her own in another, and a huge mega roster of artists in the last corner – comprised of Lyricks, De, The Yellow Boyz, Excel Cruz, Koreone, Manifest & Smokes. So by all means, go ahead and take a listen to the three renditions and vote for your favorite below!

On Fire Ent x Rocky Sandoval

On Fire Ent Shares a “Star 2nite”

On Fire Entertainment has been hard at work in preparing their upcoming Sex, Drugs, Rap & Soul. Some evidence of this includes their new song leak, “Star 2Nite” by members L-Dubs, Rocky Sandoval & LOE. This is a chill, lady friendly R&B/Hip-Hop release that should be an easy listen for most. You can have a listen below.
