This could be our biggest round-up yet. We’ve got more music videos of covers and remixes for you, so no one-take-sessions or studio sessions here. These are those Youtube videos where the audio and video were done at different times, requiring that much more work to bring you just a few minutes of entertainment a piece. So if you’ve got some time to kill, go through this playlist of 14 (yes, FOURTEEN) MVs across various genres. Which ones are your favorites?

Yongie Phresh Releases MV for “Four Twenty”

Philadelphia’s Yongie Phresh has a new video out commemorating the counter-culture “holiday”, 4-20, hence the song title. Phresh’s flow continues to improve and it’s clear he’s passionate about his appreciation for a certain herbal remedy – though I couldn’t exactly relate as it’s not a lifestyle I personally condone. Good beat selection and a chill delivery make this a decent listen, that is, if you’re a fan of the subject matter. Catch it after the jump.

yonGie Phresh Aims to be a “Superstar”

Here’s a decent quickie drop from Yongie outta Philly. If you recall, he was one of our featured Freshmen. The track is called Superstar and the video is just some footage of him in the booth, showing some love to his people including people from The Beautiful Cycle, Muzo & more. His music ain’t quite golden yet but I see potential in this dude. Of course we appreciated the shoutout in the last verse too haha. Decipher helped put the video together and Andy Ha took care of the audio. Not too shabby.

Showdown: Verseatile vs Yongie Phresh x Decipher

Even in Hip-Hop circles, there are songs that tend to get the remix treatment from nearly everyone. One of the more recent trend is for an MC to switch up Fabolous’s “You Be Killin’ Em”. The two we have for today’s showdown certainly aren’t the only remixes I’ve seen from artists we cover, but I happened to watch both today so of course there’s the temptation for comparison. In one corner we got Verseatile, who gives the track a simple but impressive one take video treatment. In the other corner is a tag team with Philly representatives Yongie Phresh & Decipher. Each took their version of the song in completely different directions and even though they share the same beat they have a very different feel as a result. But which one did YOU like? West vs East, let’s go!

Verseatile

Yongie Phresh x Decipher

I was feeling Verseatile’s positive spin and his easy delivery & execution on a single take, but I thought Yongie & De brought too much to the table to turn down. Not that these songs were meant to ever be compared but if I had to listen to only one of them over the other… my vote would lean more towards the Philly heads. But what say you? Express your vote!

Until next time!

The Freshmen: Yongie Phresh Releases “Teach Me How To Yongie” Ft Decipher x Sickboi

Today we are debuting another new feature on a-Tunes, and it’s called The Freshmen. Basically this is where we feature artists who haven’t quite developed a following yet, and are still working on establishing themselves and making their official debut. Usually this will mean the artists featured here have not released any official singles, mixtapes, albums, or music videos, nor have they acquired a big fan base yet. But hey, we all have to start somewhere right? We love to see talented folks develop and grow.

But one more thing, it’s important that you the readers vote either thumbs up or thumbs down on these posts because this will help us decide which of these artists can graduate from The Freshmen and be a part of the regular rotation of a-Tunes Music News. So if you think these artists have what it takes, thumbs up! But if you don’t want to hear from em again, thumbs down!

Now, onto our first feature!

Yongie Phresh is a new face stemming out of the PA. After working closely with his fellow Philly rep Decipher, YP has decided to do his own thing, but not without the help of a few established acts. In this track he remixes the 2010 hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” by the Cali Swag District and puts his own spin on it – “Teach Me How to Yongie”. The song features veterans Decipher & Sickboi on the track. What do you guys think? Thumbs up or Thumbs down !?!
