afterschoolspecial x The Dreamlapse Project Debut MV for “Dreamers”

Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.

Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. Another important note is this video is that NONE of this would be possible without the backing and work of afterschoolspecial who need their due credit- Jaylen Green, Keane Aranita, Todd Olson, Brian Figueroa, and Victor Velasquez.

AJ Rafael Discusses Red Roses, Being Filipino American, Gabe Bondoc & More w/ The Other Asians

Ya gotta love the Other Asians for their in-depth interviews with our favorite artists. There’s a new post out about rising star AJ Rafael and they dive straight into all the major topics from his album to his life to his personal relationship with other artists. There’s bound to be stuff in there that you didn’t know about AJ, even if you label yourself a fanatic. Head on over to the OA for the read – def recommended.

OA: Congrats for releasing your first full-length album. This was an unimaginable feat, especially as an independent artist. What has been the takeaway lesson?
AJR: I learned that recording a song takes a lot of work, especially if you want to make every song the highest quality. Each song took so many hours; it took at least 24 hours. Maybe even 48 including mixing and what not. Jesse Barrera produced the album, thinking about what’s missing. There were some tracks we were thinking the last week before the deadline to turn it in, changing it and changing little things here and there.  Jesse and I were even listening to the songs in the car, right before we had to send the master and we had gone to San Diego to record the song. He had to chat with his girlfriend Gracie back home and get the screen share and just mix from there; he couldn’t even hear anything but doing it all by feel. Up until the very last moment, that’s kind of what I learned. Even if it’s just worth 99 cents, it’s worth a lot more.

AJ Rafael Features With John Ryan for Bryce Vine’s “The Magic”

Whoa. It’s always fun to discover new music that you enjoy and “The Magic” happens to be one of the better tracks for us to stumble upon in a while. AJ Rafael features on the song by Bryce Vine along with John Ryan, creating a tune with a great throwback vibe from decades past but keeping it contemporary and catchy. A perfect mix, if you ask me. Check it out for yourself below!

Showdown: Joseph Vincent vs AJ Rafael x Tori Kelly vs Jason Chen

Welcome to Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

If you haven’t heard of Justin Bieber yet… some would say you’re deprived while others would argue you are lucky. But we’re not here to cast a vote for either opinion, no in fact we’re not voting at all… you are! “Mistletoe” is the latest single by the young super star and is the subject of our latest edition of Showdown. Now I ask you, should it be any surprise that the Youtube alum would have fans who are Youtube staples themselves? None of the following artists are newcomers to our silly competition but regardless we are pitting renditions of the Bieber hit by Joseph Vincent, AJ Rafael & Tori Kelly, and Jason Chen against each other. All you have to do is vote for your favorite!

So what’s the verdict? Are you partial to JV’s acoustic R&B? How about the dynamic duo chemistry between AJ Rafael and Tori Kelly? Don’t count out one of the most consistent cover artists doing it right now, Jason Chen! So you ready? Go ahead and tell us which one liked best!

The Youtube Cover Duets Round-Up – 11/2/11

Snapshot: Jay Park x AJ Rafael x Traphik

Jay Park x AJ Rafael x Traphik

This is an awesome pic we found on twitter of Jay Park, AJ Rafael, and Traphik posing together. Always encouraging to see artists cultivating relationships on both a professional and personal level. I believe this picture was taken at the ISA LA event from earlier this month but don’t quote me on that. For the uninformed, Jay Park is a former member of the KPop group 2PM before being forced out of the group and branching off on his own international career. AJ Rafael is one of the earliest singers to gain a following on Youtube and has steadily built up his career in the past few years. Traphik is a comedian/rapper/media personality known for his outlandish videos and various projects across several mediums.

Say Cheese!
