Preview “Change” by Amanda Lee

Distorted audio in video clips is a pet peeve of mine, but it’s an egregious offense I’m willing to overlook when it comes to Amanda Lee. She’s posted up a preview clip of a new song called “Change” and it features a little cello & bass action in addition to Lee’s usual six string repertoire. The song has an almost old-school Ken Oak Band type of feel (pre Oak & Gorski). Now, I just want to hear a final, studio version!

Showtime: UMCP ΣΨΖ presents SPEAK – 4/17/2011

It has been quite some time since our last Showtime feature, mostly in part due to lack of man-power and resources in attending and capturing/writing up on all the events out there. That’s why we are so thankfully to have had a little extra help in reporting on this event, SPEAK – an annual charity event dinner held by UMCP’s Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority.

The event is held in benefit of Odanadi, an organization devoted to rescuing, rehabilitating, empowering and reintegrating survivors (women and children) of sex and human trafficking. The event is also tied into raising awareness for the Sexual Assault Awareness Month of April.

Amanda Lee Releases Debut EP – Go

Indie singer/songwriter Amanda Lee has dropped her debut EP titled Go, a four track release with a little bit of Folk, Pop, and Rock all mixed together… kind of like a mixture of old-school Jewel and Alanis Morissette.  If Amanda’s name sounds familiar it may be because she was the 2nd place winner of Kollaboration DC. The EP is available online as CD or digital download from CD Baby right now and should be available on iTunes in the near future as well.

In related news you can check out some photos from her album release party this past weekend, courtesy of Photoria. We were there and can attest that it was a great show.

Rooftop Pursuit Show and Interview w/ Sulu DC

Check out this new interview of Rooftop Pursuit with Sulu DC during preparation for their upcoming show this weekend. Rooftop used to go under the term the “Phil Good Band” but are in the process of stamping out a name for themselves with an upcoming MV & EP release. The interview discusses their history a little more, along with what we can expect from their upcoming projects. They even touch upon the topics of ethnicity and culture. It’s a good interview and precursor to their big event on Saturday.

Amanda Lee Needs Your Help to Release Debut EP

Like many artists before her, Amanda Lee is making use of a great fundraising campaign to help fund her debut musical project. She’s putting together an EP but it takes a lot of resources and backing that most indie artists just don’t have the luxury of having. Independence presents a predicament in that a musician can have full total control over thier craft but no viable way to bring their visions to fruition. This is where you come in. If you are a fan and want to support Amanda (who btw is fresh off her 2nd place win at Kollaboration DC), then contribute to her to her Pledge Music fund. You can hear a sample of her work (“Beauty of Failing”) on the page along with the list of exclusives available to those who contribute.

Chip Han Wins Kollaboration DC, Amanda Lee & Trus Real Place as Runner Ups

Amanda Lee, Chip Han, Trus Real

We’ll have a full review out later this week on the historic first Kollaboration DC event, but to be 100% frank with you it was a great night of music to remember. But what you SHOULD know now is, Chip Han, a beat boxer from VA has taken top honors and is the FIRST ever Kollaboration DC winner. He stunned the crowd with an incredible routine.

Second place went to the very talented Amanda Lee who did an acoustic set coupled with a repeater. All of the judges (including yours truly, were very impressed).

And third place went to Trus Real, who held it down with an awesome hometown anthem dedicated to the DMV (DC, Maryland, VA).

All of the acts did an incredible job and it was tough coming up with the winners but everyone should walk away proud. I, GT, am completely honored to have been apart of this awesome event.

Kollaboration DC Reveals Interview with Contestants

With Kollaboration DC quickly approaching, the event organizers have put up an interview video of all the contestants for DC’s inaugural event. Check out the clip below to learn a little more about Amanda Lee, Chip Han, Trus Real, Lily Bee, Philip Jung & Dung Woo Seo, Ivy Rose, Dave Bak, and Chris Santa Ana. Watching this is a gain a little context behind the musicians. Remember, the event is September 25th so don’t procrasticante too long to get your tickets! The video was made courtesy of Photoria Studios.

Kollaboration DC Line Up & Promo MV Released

For numerous reason I’m very excited to announce and share the line up and promo video for the FIRST Kollaboration event in DC EVER. Finally one of the biggest and greatest showcases of Asian-American talent has come to the mid-atlantic and the list of competitors include Ivy Rose, Christopher Santa Ana, Amanda Lee, Philip Jung & Dong Woo Seo, Lilian Bui, Dave Bak, Trus Real, and Chip Han. That’s a pretty musically diverse collection of talent and they will be competing for top honors (and some money) on September 25th, 2010 at the GWU Lisner Auditorium. There’s also some well known guest performers including SNRG, Lyricks, the Phil Good Band and a whole lot more. To kick things off they’ve also put together a cool promo music video with some slick effects. Make sure to check out Kollaboration DC’s website for more information and to get your tickets, already available for sale!

Oh and one more thing… I’m so incredibly honored to announce that I, GT, am slated to be one of the guest judges at the event. So I expect to see you all there, it’s gonna be an awesome show!

Amanda Lee Sings “Better Me”

I’ve come across Amanda Lee’s videos a little while ago but she’s been a quiet on the Youtube front with her original material. She’s a musician out of MD and an upcoming contestant in the first Kollaboration DC in September. She’s just post up this clip of her singing her song “Better Me”. The girl’s got a passionate style, so much in fact that she doesn’t seem to open her eyes whenever she’s singing haha.

Lyrics after the break.
