Ashley Robles Drops New Single – “Good Lookin”

DJ/Singer Ashley Robles has just dropped a new single entitled ‘Good Lookin’. It’s got a fun beat and has a feel good vibe to it. She sounds great on the track. I really like how her voice layers! I think she reminds me Amerie sometimes. It’s a an easy listen pop single and a great fit for the spring time. If you’re interested in hearing it you’ll have to head on over to her myspace. I think this is a stronger than her last release.
Ashley Robles Releases ‘Get Dippy (Let Ya Hair Down)’

Proving that some people still use their Myspace accounts, R&B singer Ashley Robles has got a new single out called ‘Get Dippy (Let Ya Hair Down)’ up on her page. It’s a beat heavy club number and though it’s great to hear new material from her I have to be quite frank and say I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand the verses are fun and simple and she sounds great on them, but the hook gets too busy and everything clashes, at least to my ears. It’s too bad for the imbalance because I thought the track had more promise plus Ashley has an awesome voice. Maybe I just don’t get this type of song but I was a tad underwhelmed.
You can check out ‘Get Dippy’ on her Myspace page.
Showdown: Jessica Sanchez vs Ashley Robles
For this edition of Showdown we got two r&b heavyweight divas ambitiously covering Alicia Keys and her contribution to Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’. Some of you may know Jessica Sanchez as a young singer who has proven that she’s got a voice well beyond her age. In the other corner we have Ashley Robles, a veteran vocalist working to make a name for herself. So who came out on top in this showdown? You decide!
Jessica Sanchez
Ashley Robles
In my opinion, neither could quite compare with the exceptional Alica, but overall I think Ashley’s experience gave her a little more polish and control. While it’s clear Jessica has some pipes, her vocal felt a little too forced for me. Agree? Disagree? Tell us with your votes!
WTF: a-Tunes Mix Vol1 – Summer Break
This marks a special edition of Weekly Thursday Freebies as we are presenting what is hoped to be the first of many releases to come in a series uncreatively titled ‘a-Tunes Mix’. In short, the a-Tunes Mixes are going to be digital mixtapes comprised of music released by Asian/Asian-American artists here in the states. These mixes should fit on a standard 80 min CD when burned and/or play on the media player of your choice.
The main purpose of this project is to promote artists you wouldn’t normally hear in mainstream media and increase their exposure because they truly do deserve it. In no way are these mixes meant to undermine or serve as a substitution to actually supporting these artists by buying their music. In fact, it is meant to encourage all of you to find new artists you really enjoy and show your support. That being said, if there any artist(s) or members of their staff who are reading this and object to their inclusion, then please let me know (giftedthought at gmail) and I will respectfully leave you out of future releases.
Now, with all the information and disclaimers out of the way… a-Tunes is proud to present the ‘a-Tunes Mix Vol. 1: Summer Break’. I know the summer season is rapidly winding down, and many of you will find yourselfs back at your fine educational institutions soon (if you haven’t already). However, that doesn’t mean we still can’t appreciate some fun, catchy music. All the songs included on this mix were released in roughly the past yr (given a couple exceptions), and are light and infectious enough to simpley relax and enjoy like it’s summer break all over again.

You can find the tracklist, links to the artists, and link to DL all after the jump!
