Just as promised a few weeks back, BoA has released her newest MV for the single ‘Energetic’.
I thought the video was OK. Better than ‘Eat You Up‘ but not as interesting as ‘I Did It For Love‘. Though I will say BoA’s dancing is fierce. I wasn’t too crazy about this song but its definitely not the worst on her album.
Plus there is an interview w/ EW which you can find quoted after the jump!
How’s it going a-Tunes readers? For this week’s thursday freebie I’m featuring a remix/mash-up album of BoA‘s self titled first English album that I came across on AllAznRemix.
This project is really well done and features a lot of crazy interpretations of BoA’s songs.
Here are the details:
BoA (Best of Angel) Artist: Yigytugd (with mixes from DJ Amaya, DJ MashUP, DJ Fisun, Masa, JTLeung, Drokas, and JasonCGuitar)
Secondary Featuring Artist: Britney Spears, Haley Bennett, Sean Garrett, Rihanna, Ajoo, Younha ,C-Luv, Afterschool, Anyband, Monrose, Basshunter, Yoo Young Jin, REIGN, Katy Perry, Pussycat Dolls, Akon, A.R.Rahman, Amerie, Mariah Carey, T.I. Langugaes: English, Chinese, Korean Genre: Mashup, Remix, K-Pop, J-Pop Released: July 13, 2009BoA (Beat of Angel) is finally released!! This is a remix / mashup album for BoA’s first engish album. It has remixes / mashups for every song on the album. Be sure to thank Yigytugd, JTLeung, DJ Amaya, DJ Mashup, DJ Fisun, and Masa for helping with the album. Some songs may be better than others because there are only 2 acapella’s and no official instrumentals for the album. It was very hard to complete this album but I hope all of you will like the songs. What I hope for now is to see this on somewhere like Wikipedia or something. (There is a typo for the name of the album. Change the name to BoA (Best of Angel) and not BoA (Beat of Angel). That was my fault.)
You can find the download links after the jump so check it out!
AllKPop is reporting that Akon has gotten BoA to participate in a remix of his single ‘Beautiful’ for the Japanese release of his album ‘Freedom’.
BoA was quoted as saying:
“I was very happy to work together with world popstar Akon. And because I personally like the song “Beautiful”, the recording was enjoyable. In the future, I will work hard to show my good side.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the song Beautiful you can find the video for the original version after the jump. It’s one of the stronger tracks from his album.
The Korea Herald had an interesting piece about the flock of KPOP singers attempting to break through the US market. It’s a great, short read and I’ll quote the entire article after the break just in case the page is ever removed.
Although nothing is really shocking about what’s written, it poses some good questions and summarizes the current pop culture climate and obstacles many of these singers are facing.
ARW recently had a post up about m-flo’s 10 yr anniversary and it made me stop in my tracks to realize its been a decade since their debut. 10 flippin’ years.
If you don’t already know who m-flo is then check wikipedia cause there is just too much to explain. Long story short they are one of the most influential, best selling, and innovative groups in JPOP history. The group consists of producer Taku & MC Verbal (who is of korean descent but grew up in Japan and studied in the states). They have worked with artists all over the world including Chan & BoA (and to an extent Kanye). And their sound has had a huge influence on me both as an artist and as a music listener.
To show my appreciation I thought I’d share my top 5 m-flo songs. Thankfully, they made it easier by uploading all the videos to youtube =). So without further ado, catch my top 5 after the jump!
According to an post at Ningin, the music video for BoA‘s next single ‘Energetic’ will be released in approximately 3 weeks, says producer Sean Garrett.
If you don’t mind shaky camera work and distorted audio, check out BoA’s performance of the song at SF’s Pride 2009 event a couple weeks back.
With so many Asian artists attempting to cross over to the US music industry this year (BoA, Wonder Girls, Se7en, Utada Hikaru, etc), it goes without question that increased public awareness also brings increased scrutiny. Across the board it seems like a lot of people are commenting on how (fill in the name of an Asian artist here) needs to work out their accent (Utada being the exception). Or how they sound foolish or embarrassing. Go to any youtube video or forum post about these artists and you’ll undoubtedly see all the negative remarks. You know I’m not going to lie, I’ve made similar comments many times myself.
However I think it begs the question, what makes an Asian accent so “ugly”? I mean, British and Latin accents are almost unanimously considered attractive or sexy, yet Asian accents are often the subject of ridicule and shame. What makes Enrique sound so exotic and smooth, but Se7en awkward and funny? What made the Spice Girls sound so endearing but the Wonder Girls like level 2 ESL students?
BoA’s performance at the Gay Pride festival in San Francisco took place this weekend and Bump This has a first hand recap of the whole experience. She was reportedly received well and I can only hope more opportunities to perform in front of large audiences will come her way.
One of the contestant’s on this seasons So You Think You Can Dance did a quick number to BoA‘s song ‘Did Ya’ (one of our favorites from her album). Asuka Kondoh had to dance for her life and prove she still belonged on the show as she faced elimination.
Start from roughly the 0:32 mark.
Although I wasn’t too crazy about the dance performance itself, it was awesome to see BoA get played on national TV, even if it was just 30 seconds.
