It wasn’t too long ago that the majority of the videos we saw on Youtube were grainy, low resolution videos taken from webcams, compact cameras, and cell phones. But now, these types of videos are almost a minority as many artists have moved on to newer video recording devices. Even still, there are a few hold outs that are sticking to their tried and true capturing methods and the following round-up is a collection of such clips. So if things look dim and blurry, no worries, it’s not your screen, it’s just some out-dated technology!
Jayne Rio Covers “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry
Esther Lee Covers “Little Red Riding Hood” by Sam the Sham
Erika David Remixes “Lotus Flower Bomb” by Wale x Miguel
This could be our biggest round-up yet. We’ve got more music videos of covers and remixes for you, so no one-take-sessions or studio sessions here. These are those Youtube videos where the audio and video were done at different times, requiring that much more work to bring you just a few minutes of entertainment a piece. So if you’ve got some time to kill, go through this playlist of 14 (yes, FOURTEEN) MVs across various genres. Which ones are your favorites?
It’s time for a Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.
Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa’s “Young, Wild & Free” (featuring Bruno Mars) has been a pretty popular song on the radio the past few months – and it’s easy to see why with it’s catchy melody, easy hook and laid back raps. So we can’t say we’re too surprised to see a few remixes up on Youtube – making the song perfect candidate for our Showdown feature. What makes these remix/covers particularly interesting is that due to the nature of Youtube and copyright/licensing issues, each of the artists had the beat re-created to avoid being flagged on the flagship video streaming site; adding just an extra dashs of creativity and helping to keep each version distinct from the other.
So which group of artists had your flavor du jour? J-Ricz & Sizzle? D-Pryde & company? J. Reyez, Tommy C, and all the extra cameos? Don’t forget, you have so much power in your hands right now. Your vote will determine…. well, it only really determines who has the highest number of votes with no true qualitative value, but who cares! That’s what being Young, Wild & Free is all about right? Voting in a meaningless poll? Hello?… You still there?
Mars, Bruno has been a little quiet since the release of his current single, “It Will Rain”, but the crooner is in a new MV for Weezy’s latest cut off his Tha Carter IV project, “Mirror“. You can peep the brand new music video directly below. Bruno continues to show why he’s one of the most sought after guest features in music today.
Happy Friday! This is yet another collection of youtube covers, this time around the centralizing genre is Pop. There are some extremely creative visuals here, along with some of the more run-of-the-mill-and-sing-in-front-of-a-webcam varieties, but all in all there’s a little something for everyone. We’ve got tunes from various decades, dating back from the 70′s – so it’s kind of interesting to hear what was and is Pop. Enjoy!
Jane Lui Mashes Up “Rain” and “Crazy for You” by Madonna
Today’s round-up features some several artists well known on the Youtube circuit, collaborating with each other to bring a little variety to some of your favorite songs. Jason Min, Jennifer Chung, J. Reyez, Lydia Paek, AJ Rafael, Krissy & Ericka, Arden Cho, George Shaw, and Mikey Bustos all make appearances in this round, so be sure to click through to see them all!
Happy New Year everyone! We’re starting things off with a new batch of remix/cover music videos by some of your favorite artists across multiple genres. R&B, Pop/Rock, and Hip-Hop are all represented here with visuals that are a lot stronger than your average cover performance video. Enjoy and we hope you’ve had a fantastic start to 2012!
Paul Kim Covers “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes
Gowe x Clairbel Novelo Remix “Moment 4 Life” by Nicki Minaj
“It Will Rain“, by Bruno Mars, is easily one of the more popular songs to be covered in the latter half of this year – so our initial reaction was to use it for a Showdown… then we realized we already did that. So rather than ignore the superfluous amount of covers by our artists, we decided to lump it all into one post and be done with it… for now. For the sake of discussion, I’ve ordered them in descending order from my most to least favorite. Feel free to tell me how wrong or right I am!
You may have heard of a little known movie series called “Twilight”. It has something to do with bats and wolves or something like that… anyhow one of the main songs off the soundtrack for the upcoming installment in November is “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars. The single itself dropped a couple months back but the official MV was unveiled today, complete with some footage from the film interspersed throughout. Enjoy!
Welcome to Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.
Bruno Mars has been something of a guaranteed hit-maker, and his newest single “It Will Rain” from the upcoming Twilight movie doesn’t seem to be any different. Which probably explains why so many artists are covering it. In fact we have a four-way battle this time around, in an event some are proclaiming as three guys, a girl, and a Bruno song. OK, no one calls it that but bare with me. Jason Chen, Dawen, Joseph Vincent, and Cilla Chan all decided to tackle the song, but only one can win the showdown and walk away with 1,000,000 a-Tunes points… which are completely worthless, by the way.
All four artists have a sizeable presence/following on Youtube, some big than others but their executions of the song are all similar so it comes down to the details for this one. After a close listen do you favor Jason’s poppy vocals? How about Dawen’s unique phrasing? JV’s clean and cool singing style? Or does Cilla’s touch of soulful runs? Cast your vote now!
