Jaeson Ma Releases Album – Glory

Here it is. The new album from Christian musician/preacher/activist/missionary Jaeson Ma entitled Glory. We’ve already shared the title track with you, but now you can have the 8 track release in it’s entirety featuring JMa’s unique and distinctive prayer/preaching spoken word style vocals along with guest drops from the likes of Calista Wu, Bruno Mars, Caleb Lin, Joseph Vincent, Jeremy Crooks and more. The album is available as a CD or via digital download from AmazonMP3 & iTunes.

WTF: a-Tunes Mix Vol1 – Summer Break

This marks a special edition of Weekly Thursday Freebies as  we are presenting what is hoped to be the first of many releases to come in a series uncreatively titled ‘a-Tunes Mix’. In short, the a-Tunes Mixes are going to be digital mixtapes comprised of music released by Asian/Asian-American artists here in the states. These mixes should fit on a standard 80 min CD when burned and/or play on the media player of your choice.

The main purpose of this project is to promote artists you wouldn’t normally hear in mainstream media and increase their exposure because they truly do deserve it. In no way are these mixes meant to undermine or serve as a substitution to actually supporting these artists by buying their music. In fact, it is meant to encourage all of you to find new artists you really enjoy and show your support. That being said,  if there any artist(s) or members of their staff who are reading this and object to their inclusion, then please let me know (giftedthought at gmail) and I will respectfully leave you out of future releases.

Now, with all the information and disclaimers out of the way… a-Tunes is proud to present the ‘a-Tunes Mix Vol. 1: Summer Break’. I know the summer season is rapidly winding down, and many of you will find yourselfs back at your fine educational institutions soon (if you haven’t already). However, that doesn’t mean we still can’t appreciate some fun, catchy music. All the songs included on this mix were released in roughly the past yr (given a couple exceptions), and are light and infectious enough to simpley relax and enjoy like it’s summer break all over again.

Critic’s Corner: Calista Wu – The Prologue

I’ve only heard of Calista Wu recently and as a result I’m not too familiar with her story or any past material. The Prologue marks Calista’s first CD release and upon hearing some samples I was intrigued to listen more. Her website has described her style as ”a unique urban blend of soul and spirit, and her songs capture the conflicting realities of the internal and external”. Categorically, Calista strays from the typical contemporary R&B sound instead toning it back and relying on a more classic approach. Hailing from the LA area, she has the support of other talented Asian American artists such as Tatum Jones & the Far East Movement but is it well deserved? Make sure you check out Calista’s recent interview with AArisings. It’s a pretty light read but a fun way to see another side of this new up and comin’ artist. Don’t forget, she recently released an EP too, so be sure to check it out as well.

What languages do you speak? Do you have Chinese middle name? Ever tried singing in another language?
I speak English, Mandarin, and some Taiwanese. I can sing in Spanish! I remember we used to sing a bunch of songs in AP Spanish class, and I can still recall some of them. I can also sing in Mandarin.
