If you have your own label and are developing artists under your umbrella, it’s only right that you do everything to support your musical fam in every way that you can. That’s exactly what Snacky Chan has done with his participation in “Irony” by the Korean Hip-Hop group, Money Maker$. If you’re interested in a little Hip-Hop from the Republic of Korea, then check out this Dynasty Muzik song & video.

Chan of New Dynasty Shares Thoughts on the N-Word
I saw this clip a couple days ago where Chan & Maniac were being interviewed as New Dynasty on a radio show. The hosts decided to take the opportunity to ask Chan on a somewhat recent decision for him to use the N-Word. There was no bad blood or ill-intent with the question, just a inquisitive discussion on it’s use and a little bit of context behind it. Singer Paul Kim has recently publicly stated his distaste for the word by his kinfolk, and I know of folks who fall on both sides of the debate as to it’s usage, what about you?
The Non-Video Youtube Rap Remix Round-Up – 11/16/11
Rap, more than any other genre, tends to lend itself to a surplus of mixtape tracks, leaks, and remixes. It’s a part of the musical fabric that makes up the style. Taking beats from other people’s tracks and putting your own spin on it, improving upon and out rhyming the other man… it’s to be expected. But the sheer quantity of remixes means that somethings gotta give, and in the Youtube generation that means we see many “videos” without much video footage at all, if any. Instead, rappers use the medium to quickly broadcast their remix to the world, often forgoing videos in the interest of time and effort – perhaps settling on slapping some cover art on their and calling it a day. Today’s round-up is a collection of those videos… no need to pay attention to the clip here. Just press play, move on to another tab in your browser and enjoy.

Passport: New Dynasty (Chan x Maniac) Release New Single – “That’s Alright”

We’re kind of playing catch up with the news on our artists abroad, but recently Chan & Maniac, formerly of Uptown and now known as the duo, New Dynasty, dropped a new single called “That’s Alright”. It’s an R&B/Hip-Hop jam that makes a solid radio single and provides something a little smoother for their more general music fans. It’s available via digital korean retailers, so if you know how to get it, please do! The track features KPop/R&B singer JD on the chorus.

Passport: Kato Produces for The Yellow Boyz & Money Maker$ (New Group Under Chan’s Label)
This track is packed to the brim with international Hip-Hop talent. That’s why it’s a prime choice for our first entry into our new Category called ‘Passport’.
Atlanta based producer Kato had the opportunity to link up with a few notable Kyopo talents including The Yellow Boyz and Chan via his new group Money Maker$. If you recall, the YBZ have been going back and forth to Korea, exploring a number of opportunities – one of which includes connecting with Chan, another MC who has migrated from the states and made a name for his self over there. Chan has been busy developing artists under his own label – Dynasty Muzik, the first being a young duo called the Money Maker$. And there you have it, the official debut of a new group courtesy of various international talent.

Collectively the two are now known as New Dynasty. The release is more of a mini-album with 7 tracks plus 3 instrumentals for your enjoymentt. The album is available in Korea already and on the 20th for international orders via YesAsia.
Chan Shares Un-Released Track from 2007 – “What I Like to Do”

This may be the most personal tracks I’ve ever heard from Chan, and that’s one of the reasons why it quickly became one of my favorites from him. This song was never released but was written back in 2007 when Chan first landed in Korea, getting ready to start a new career in the motherland. He decided to share this track today in light of the Korean holiday Parent’s Day, on May 8th. It’s a moving and honest joint, one that shows growth in Chan not only as an artist, but a son as well.
Chan drops an unreleased gem from 2007. “What I Like to do” is a heart-felt song about the love, respect, and gratefulness Chan has for his immediate family. This song was recorded in 2007 during his first visit to South Korea which he describes as ‘enlightening.’ During this time, he came to realize the struggles his parents had to face in Korea, as well as the challenges they had to overcome when they immigrated to the United States. If you appreciate what your parents have done for you, we’re sure you will feel this!
Chan Remixes “I’m Ill” [Free DL]
It’s not everyday we get to hear new bars from Snacky, so it was a pleasant surprise for me to find out that he has a new remix track out where he flips “I’m Ill” by throwing his own verses on it. It looks like he’s aiming to build some hype for his new group with Maniac – New Dynasty – by bringing back the Chan of old; pre-UPT. You know what? At least for this blogger, it’s a welcome return to form. Get the song for free below.
[Free DL] Jin x LS x Chan Present “The Reunion”
Whoa… talk about a come back. This may date me, but I remember during my college years a little track called “4th Chamber”, a collab between some of the biggest names in Asian-American Hip-Hop. Well someone must have jumped in a DeLoreon and gotten the Jins, LS’s, and Chans from yesteryear cause they return with a new joint song, appropriately titled “The Reunion”. An epic line-up on paper, but how does it sound in reality? Can history repeat itself? Haven’t had the chance to peep it yet but I’ll post my thoughts later, I can’t wait to hear this one!
Get the song for free here.
The Reunion is here! Back in 2004, these three MC’s first got together to re-create GZA’s classic record, “4th Chamber,” for Jin’s “The Definition of History” mixtape. The result was an underground banger which set the internet world on fire.
Seven years later, these three pioneers of Asian-American hip hop show that they are still here and dope as ever. This is an original production created by Ray Hill who also appears as the main vocalist in the chorus. For more information on these artists please visit:
Maniac Interviews w/ Half Korean

Some of you may not be as familiar with Maniac, an MC most recently known for being part of the re-incarnated UPT (Uptown) along with Chan & Swings. The group has since dissolved (again) but through this new interview with HK you can learn a little bit about the artist – including his upbringing, family, thoughts & experience with the Korean industry and perhaps most importantly his future work wit Chan in their group New Dynasty. Here’s a sneak peek:
Which of your tracks are you most proud of?
It is actually a track called “Now I Know” and is supposed to release in the next few weeks. The reason I’m proud of that song is because it is a song that I actually made in the underground with no input from any label owners, producers, etc. Me and Snacky Chan remade it and made it our title song for our new album.
Be sure to catch the rest over at HalfKorean!
