We’re kind of playing catch up with the news on our artists abroad, but recently Chan & Maniac, formerly of Uptown and now known as the duo, New Dynasty, dropped a new single called “That’s Alright”. It’s an R&B/Hip-Hop jam that makes a solid radio single and provides something a little smoother for their more general music fans. Atlanta based producer Kato had the opportunity to link up with a few notable Kyopo talents including The Yellow Boyz and Chan via his new group Money Maker$. If you recall, the YBZ have been going back and forth to Korea, exploring a number of opportunities – one of which includes connecting with Chan, another MC who has migrated from the states and made a name for his self over there. Chan has been busy developing artists under his own label – Dynasty Muzik, the first being a young duo called the Money Maker$. And there you have it, the official debut of a new group courtesy of various international talent.

Korean-American’s Chan & Maniac may not be a part of the revived UPT any longer, but they are continuing to make moves over seas in Korea with the release of their newly formed group’s debut Body Language. Collectively the two are now known as New Dynasty. The release is more of a mini-album with 7 tracks plus 3 instrumentals for your enjoymentt. The album is available in Korea already and on the 20th for international orders via YesAsia.

This may be the most personal tracks I’ve ever heard from Chan, and that’s one of the reasons why it quickly became one of my favorites from him. This song was never released but was written back in 2007 when Chan first landed in Korea, getting ready to start a new career in the motherland. He decided to share this track today in light of the Korean holiday Parent’s Day, on May 8th. It’s a moving and honest joint, one that shows growth in Chan not only as an artist, but a son as well.

Chan drops an unreleased gem from 2007. “What I Like to do” is a heart-felt song about the love, respect, and gratefulness Chan has for his immediate family. This song was recorded in 2007 during his first visit to South Korea which he describes as ‘enlightening.’ During this time, he came to realize the struggles his parents had to face in Korea, as well as the challenges they had to overcome when they immigrated to the United States. If you appreciate what your parents have done for you, we’re sure you will feel this!

It’s not everyday we get to hear new bars from Snacky, so it was a pleasant surprise for me to find out that he has a new remix track out where he flips “I’m Ill” by throwing his own verses on it. It looks like he’s aiming to build some hype for his new group with Maniac – New Dynasty – by bringing back the Chan of old; pre-UPT. You know what? The Reunion is here! Back in 2004, these three MC’s first got together to re-create GZA’s classic record, “4th Chamber,” for Jin’s “The Definition of History” mixtape. The result was an underground banger which set the internet world on fire.

Some of you may not be as familiar with Maniac, an MC most recently known for being part of the re-incarnated UPT (Uptown) along with Chan & Swings. The group has since dissolved (again) but through this new interview with HK you can learn a little bit about the artist – including his upbringing, family, thoughts & experience with the Korean industry and perhaps most importantly his future work wit Chan in their group New Dynasty. Which of your tracks are you most proud of?
It is actually a track called “Now I Know” and is supposed to release in the next few weeks.

The reason I’m proud of that song is because it is a song that I actually made in the underground with no input from any label owners, producers, etc. Me and Snacky Chan remade it and made it our title song for our new album.
