The Chosen One has released the music video to a track called the “Purpose of Life”, that mixes in English rhymes with a sampled Vietnamese hook. The semi-autobiographical track is a pretty good mix of music and culture, especially when coupled with the MV. Although having a mic in the middle of a field does look a bit silly. Lyrics? After the break, of course.

The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 5/3/12
We did it before, a couple months back; bringing you a collection of remixes done by artists that chose to forgo creating a video too. Instead we get a mixture of static images, cover art, and if we’re lucky, a slide show of some type. This has been a staple of the digital age for Hip-Hop artists, as it’s too time consuming to make a video for all their mixtape-ready songs – whether or not you feel they are cutting corners is a completely different story. At the very least you can listen to the following in the background, knowing your not missing much by not paying attention to the (lack of) visuals!
Misfit Remixes “Sail” by Awol Nation
Ed-Two Remixes “The Recipe” by Kendrick Lamar x Dr. Dre
Thai Remixes “Donald Trump” by Mac Miller
J-ricz x Sizzle Remix “Live My Life” by Far East Movement x Justin Bieber
Watch a Visual for “Friday Morning” by Chosen x cLAsicc x Sean Rhee x j.Skillz
Here’s a performance music video for the track “Friday Morning” by Chosen One featuring a number of his fellow Los Angeles contemporaries – cLAsicc x Sean Rhee x j.Skillz. They overlayed the studio version of their audio over a performance video. It’s a fair watch though I feel cheated from catching a glimpse of what it could have sounded like live.
Chosen Drops the “Human Nature” MV
“Human Nature” is the latest music video from Chosen, where they make use of a spy/espionage type of motif complete with some mildly impressive production values. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases where the visual is more entertaining than the song itself, though maybe that’s just me being grumpy on a Thursday morning. Curiously, this isn’t in promotion of any track from his recent Space Jams release.
Chosen One Shares Visuals to “My Testimony”
Chosen One has been known to throw up some interesting visuals set to his music, but his artistic choices this time around may be one of my favorites from him. He made use of some time lapse video by Stefan Were for his song “My Testimony”. It’s a visually arresting watch though not exactly a perfect 1 to 1 match for the song. Enjoy!

Chosen Shares “I Can’t Take It No More” ft. Guchi Amuta

Chosen One posted up a new track called “I Can’t Take It No More” featuring some guest vocals by Guchi Amuta on the hook. This just might be one of my favorite drops from Chosen in a while, I’m feeling his choice in acoustic instrumentation. It gave the track a chill, organic type of feel that is refreshing in contrast with the over-produced music that litters today’s radio landscape.
Chosen Debuts a “Rhythm of the Night”
“Rhythm of the Night” has shared another track, likely a song off his upcoming album, due November 11th. It makes use of a recognizable sample from the dance song of the same name. It’s kind of surprising to hear how some of these songs have translated to the hip-hop genre, similar to Em x Wayne’s “No Love”. It should be interesting to hear how the final album will turn out.
Try “Falling Up” by Chosen One & Nina Love
The SoCal rapper known as Chosen One has got a new song out called “Falling Up” featuring Nina Love. I’m not entirely sure what to make of the video as it’s a psychedelic cross between music video and random visualizations. Too bad since it distracts from an otherwise catchy though slightly pedestrian song. It seems that this track will be featured off his upcoming album – Space Jams, due November 11th.
Chosen Stays “Resilient” with New MV
This time around, it looks like Chosen One wanted to brush off his pen and get back to the basics of Hip-Hop as he spits 200 bars with no hook or additional song structure – just straight lyrics. There’s a quick street video to accompany and promote the song – meaning it serves it’s purpose as a value added component to the release but don’t look for anything that goes above and beyond from these visuals.
