The Throwback Covers Youtube Round-Up 5/1/12

Welcome to Uno de Mayo! It’s another round-up, and since it’s already May and time seems to be flying by, we decided to scour Youtube for the covers of songs from years past. Many of these songs are two decades old or more, so these certainly qualify as ‘throwbacks’. Usher, Radiohead, Mr. Big, Selena, and more! I realize that some of you may be hearing these songs for the first time, which makes me feel a little sad and a little old, but there’s nothing like the classics!

Chris Cendana Sings a Song About a “Douchebag”

Chris Cendana has put together a rather upbeat/catchy Pop/Rock song called “Douchebag” – a tune about all the tools out there that mistreat the women in their lives. The split screen video editing helps keep things lively with this deceptively critical ditty. It’s all an interesting juxtaposition of sound and theme. Wait till the end for a preview of the full studio version.

Chris Cendana Shares a “Goodbye”

We haven’t heard new material from Chris Cendana in a while, so it’s a welcome return for the artist now that he’s put up “Goodbye”. It was written shortly after New Years last year, but we’re glad we are finally able to hear it now. He’s incorporated a little bit of Auld Lang Syne towards the end as well. A fitting song for the first week of 2012.

It’s been rough for the last 12 months
you’ve had your fun
you said I’m tough, but you called a bluff
I’ve had enough

I will survive, without you in my life and by my side
We’ll add one more to the final score,
but no more
I guess this is goodbye
I guess this is goodbye, I, I
I guess this is goodbye

I can’t fake knowing this could take no time
but I know my heart is better from the start (echo)

I will survive, without you in my life and by my side
We’ll add one more to the final score
I guess this is goodbye
I guess this is goodbye, I, I
I guess this is goodbye

The Holiday Covers Round-Up Part 4

Tonight, we bring you another batch of Christmas covers, and this one is mostly filled with Christmas standards with one notable 90′s pop exception. The production ranges wildly from your standard guitar & webcam set-up to incorporating an entire orchestra – so be sure to check out all the videos because they all offer a slightly different flavor of Holiday peppermint.

[New Song] Chris Cendana – “I’ll Remember You”

This song dropped yesterday and was perfectly fitting for the Memorial Day holiday. “I’ll Remember You” is Chris Cendana’s dedication to those that had a big impact in our lives but is no longer with us. It’s a moving, sentimental tune with a slight country vibe to it. I honestly could see this being a hit if it found it’s way into the hands of Country star.

Youtube Singers Release Tribute Single for Japan Tsunami & US Tornado Victims

A total of 55 Youtubers have contributed to this project single called “We Pray for You”, a tribute song for the victims of terrible natural disasters in Japan and the US. The concept is similar to the Haiti tribute from last year. A number of a-Tuners were in the mix including Chris Cedeña, Stacy Dudero, AJ Rafael, Kevin Lien, David Choi, Jason Chen, and Jessica Sanchez. The track is an awesome gesture and full of great intention although to be quite frank, while it’s beautifully sung it felt so heavy handed and overly-syrupy. Needless to say these singers are trying to do something great with their talents, and I support that. The song is available on iTunes & Amazon.

Proceeds go to the Japan redcross to benefit disaster victims of Japan’s Earthquake/Tsunami and to the American redcross for the victims of recent tornadoes in the southern United States.

Chris Cendana Shares New Original – “The Only Gift I Want”

Singer/song writer Chris Cendana decided to release his first Christmas themed song and it’s called “The Only Gift I Want”. I found the song to be beautifully arranged, and a heartfelt ballad though the lyrics were a bit cheesy. But in all honesty I think it’s hard to pull off a “cool” Holiday love tune. Maybe that’s just me being all cynical and jaded haha. But at the end of it all, I still enjoyed this release… it’s certainly nice to listen to.

Chris Cendana x Jesse Barrera Release “Work”

Chris Cendana has finally released a youtube video of one of his tracks from last year called “Work” and this one is pretty crazy. It’s a bluesy number about the daily work grind that has a refreshing sound plus it’s got Jesse Barrera on the lead electric strumming away and killing it. This is one great collab, even if only in the instrumental sense. Plus I love how this guy edits his videos.

Instruments used on this video:
Acoustic Guitar
Electric Bass
Guitar Case (for “bass drum sound”)
Jesse Barrera (on Electric Guitar)
Tambourine
Hand Claps
