Showdown: Krissy & Ericka vs Arden Cho vs Cilla Chan

We haven’t had a Showdown since March, so it seemed only right that we have a new edition! Remember, our Showdown feature is where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

Now, what song gets you in a fighting mood more than Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”? We’re being facetious of course, but that’s the tune that the following three parties have all covered, making them prime candidates for the feature. Tonight we have the bubbly cute Krissy & Ericka, singer/actress Arden Cho, and burgeoning music student, Cilla Chan. Check out their covers below.

Krissy & Ericka

Arden Cho

Cilla Chan

Ok, now that you’ve heard them all, it’s time to make your voice clicks heard by casting your vote for your favorite rendition. The winner recieves… a virtual high-five from us and the bragging rights, but rather then considering the prize worthless, we like to call it priceless.

It’s your democratic duty to vote!

Showdown: Jason Chen vs Rooftop Pursuit vs Meg & Dia vs Sam Tsui vs Cilla Chan vs Paul Kim vs New Heights

It’s been nearly a month since our last Showdown, and since everyone and their mother seems to have taken a liking to Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away”, we thought it’d be an opportune time to have our first match-up of the year. This one is a stacked battle card with seven contenders vying for your vote for best cover. There are several repeat Showdown artists here along with a few new faces voices. Production values are all over the place, ranging from laptop webcams to full out MVs… but what matters most is your vote for who you think had the best cover. Check em out below.

Jason Chen

Phil Good of Rooftop Pursuit

Meg & Dia

Sam Tsui

Cilla Chan

Paul Kim

New Heights

Now that you’ve heard and seen them all, who do you think deserves top honors? The ever-present Jason Chen? How about lead singer of Rooftop Pursuit, Phil Good? Perhaps the sisterly team of Meg & Dia Frampton won you over? Sam Tsui always seems to be a fan favorite. However, Cilla Chan continues to show a vocal prowess beyond her college age. Paul Kim always finds a way to inject some R&B flavor into any song. Or has New Heights forever earned your fanfare?

The Girls Covering Guys Youtube Round-Up – 12/06/11

A couple weeks ago ago we spotlighted a few fellas that decided to try their hand in tackling songs originally by the fairer sex. Today, we are flipping the script and showcasing some ladies that are covering tracks by male artists. You get a little bit of R&B, some folk and even some Hip-Hop… some of these choices may surprise you! So enjoy this collection of fairly recent covers by Cilla, mree, Nessa, Erin, and Meg & Dia.

Showdown: Jason Chen vs Dawen vs Joseph Vincent vs Cilla Chan

Welcome to Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

Bruno Mars has been something of a guaranteed hit-maker, and his newest single “It Will Rain” from the upcoming Twilight movie doesn’t seem to be any different. Which probably explains why so many artists are covering it. In fact we have a four-way battle this time around, in an event some are proclaiming as three guys, a girl, and a Bruno song. OK, no one calls it that but bare with me. Jason Chen, Dawen, Joseph Vincent, and Cilla Chan all decided to tackle the song, but only one can win the showdown and walk away with 1,000,000 a-Tunes points… which are completely worthless, by the way.

Jason Chen

Dawen

Joseph Vincent

Cilla Chan

All four artists have a sizeable presence/following on Youtube, some big than others but their executions of the song are all similar so it comes down to the details for this one. After a close listen do you favor Jason’s poppy vocals? How about Dawen’s unique phrasing? JV’s clean and cool singing style? Or does Cilla’s touch of soulful runs? Cast your vote now!

Cilla Chan Features for Sex Ray Vision on “All of You”

Standford Student/singer Cilla Chan recently had a feature guest vocal on Sex Ray Vision’s “All of You” – a catchy pop/dance number. For the unitiated, SRV is the production duo that handled the crafting of said track with Chan taking care of the vocal duties. If you like what you hear, you can download the song for free here. Overall, I’m just glad to hear an original studio track from Cilla, whom is typically known for her covers.

Cilla Chan Shares an Original – “Sailor”

Cilla Chan is a singer on Youtube that is fairly well known for her numerous covers. However, she’s decided to share some original material in the form of a song she wrote years ago called “Sailor” based on some personal experiences from her time in high school. It’s a heartfelt emotional ballad with a lot of potential. Hopefully she’ll have the opportunity to lay down a studio version of the track soon.

Showdown: Cilla Chan vs Oak & Gorski

I think the time is right for another edition of Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover the same songs and vote for the one we think pulled it off better. Today’s match features the refreshing young college student Cilla Chan pitted against the veteran ‘cello-rock’ duo, Oak & Gorski. They each give their rendition of “Pumped Up Kicks” by indie-pop band, Foster the People. Let’s see how the two versions stack up against each other.

Cilla Chan

Oak & Gorski

Cilla’s vocal gives an almost R&B/Pop vibe to it with some more vocal flair. On the other hand Oak & Gorski provides a more polished but subdued final product, anchored by Ken Oak’s signature cello. It’s a little tough to make the call on this one but either way it was a refreshing competition because they didn’t cover one of the many over-saturated top 40 hits that everyone seems to be doing lately (*cough*Lighters*cough*How to Love*cough). Cast your vote for your favorite below!

News Quickies – 4/18/2011 Youtube Covers Roundup

Not sure why, but it seems like everyone posted up a cover video in the past 24 hours. Rather than post about them all separately, we’ve grouped them together in one mega post. Above we have Legaci doing a fantastic acapella cover of All-4-One’s “So Much in Love”. Some clips are better than others but you can peep them all after the break!
