The Hip-Hop Youtube Round-Up 1/15/2012

Wow, we are 15 days into the new year already. Well, as I promised last time, this round-up is all things strictly rap. I don’t believe any of the featured videos in this collection are newcomers but there’s a surprise or two in the bunch, just make sure to check em all out. There’s enough Hip-Hop bars here for everyone to enjoy.

January 7th has arrived, and that means Tommy C‘s new mixtape, C, has finally dropped. As we learned from the album preview a few days back, the project is assisted by guest features from J. So take a listen and download via the DatPiff widget below, and see what the singer can do outside of his group, IBU.

Listen to a Preview of Tommy C’s #CMIXTAPE, Due January 7th

With the release date just a few days away, Tommy C is drumming up buzz for his C Mixtape by releasing an album preview on Youtube. You can check out all 16 tracks via the snippets in the video below. It looks like “Flawless” ft Lil Crazed, “My Reason” with J. Reyez & Jargon and “Miserable” all made the tracklist. Other featuring artists include Maribelle Anes, Derez and more. Check back on a-Tunes on January 7th for the mixtape release!

Derez Takes It “Higher” With New Single

The artist formerly known as City Boy, Derez, just dropped a new joint called “Higher”. Mr. Brown returns to a hard hitting style for this single (which should have a music video on it’s way in due time). Thankfully he didn’t try to sing on this one plus he chose a pretty bangin’ beat. It’s a shame that the producer, Flash, doesn’t appear to be eatin’ off of this one though – the tags are still in there. That’s never a good look. Either way you can DL the song for free here.

Derez Presents “When It Rains”

Here’s a new track from Derez, formerly known as City Boy. The cut is called “When It Rains” and is a slower paced, emotion filled track produced by UB. City Boy’s hooks have often been hit or miss and in this case I wouldn’t call it a home run but at least it doesn’t take away too much from the passionate verses. Take a listen below and if you are inclinced, you can DL the track for free here.

The Youtube Collabo Cover Round-Up – 11/19/11

Today, we got a handful of videos where the common theme is that each cover is done via artist collaboration. Some of the pairings are common musical teams, others are welcome and newer make shift groups. As per usual, the genres are pretty diversely represented here, with everything from Pop/Rock to Rap to R&B to CCM each making an appearance. Check em all out below and don’t miss the ones after the break!

The Non-Video Youtube Rap Remix Round-Up – 11/16/11

Rap, more than any other genre, tends to lend itself to a surplus of mixtape tracks, leaks, and remixes. It’s a part of the musical fabric that makes up the style. Taking beats from other people’s tracks and putting your own spin on it, improving upon and out rhyming the other man… it’s to be expected. But the sheer quantity of remixes means that somethings gotta give, and in the Youtube generation that means we see many “videos” without much video footage at all, if any. Instead, rappers use the medium to quickly broadcast their remix to the world, often forgoing videos in the interest of time and effort – perhaps settling on slapping some cover art on their and calling it a day. Today’s round-up is a collection of those videos… no need to pay attention to the clip here. Just press play, move on to another tab in your browser and enjoy.

Derez Features on T.C.’s “Southwest Explosion”

Derez (formerly City Boy) has a new drop on a song by another indie artist, T.C. The song is called “Southwest Explosion” and they put together a music video to promote the track. If the visual style seems familiar it’s cause Derez handled the direction for the video. So in that sense, it has all the same strengths and shortcomings of his usual work. Wasn’t too crazy about this track but you may beg to differ. The track is available as a free DL here.

Jay Renz x Derez x Jewlz x Nikko Dator Present “Number One (Part 2)”

As a follow up to his 2008 track with Prizzy, Jay Renz put together a new roster for the follow up – appropriately titled “Number One (Part 2)”. This time around Jay is joined by Derez (formerly known as City Boy), Jewlz and Nikko Dator with Jay himself handling the hook. The video gets the point across but I can’t say it’s the sharpest visual I’ve ever seen. Like the song? You can DL the track here, gratis.

Derez aka City Boy Drops the MV for “Don’t Gotta Go”

The artist formerly known as City Boy, Derez, has a new MV out for his song “Don’t Gotta Go” – of which we saw the teaser for back in August. It’s a fair watch though it really shows it’s amateur roots in terms of editing and overall presentation; it’s really your standard DIY-DSLR fare. As for the song, it’s another Hip-Hop track that makes good use of a sample by Willie Hutch. If you like the song, it’s a free DL here.
