Passport: Crown J to Face 8 Months in Jail

Crown J, government name Kim Kye Hoon, doesn’t exactly have the best of reputations. On more than one occasion he’s been what some of our contemporaries in the blogosphere have called an “Asian Behaving Badly”. Unfortunately for the aspiring international rapper who had an ever short stint in the US with his Young Dro assisted, “I’m Good“, Hoon has hit another snag in his career with the recent guilty ruling for forcibly obtaining legal documents.

The alleged back story is that Clown Crown J and some of his associates assaulted and intimidated his then manager to sign legal documents and take financial responsibility over a yacht. J was found innocent regarding the assault but guilty for the documentation charges. He now faces 8 months along with 2 year probation, though he plans to file an appeal.

I admit, I’m not the biggest fan of the guy, but I still hope the best for him in this trying situation.

Crown J x Young Dro Release the Long-Delayed “I’m Good” MV

Nearly two years in the making, Southern rapper via South Korea Crown J has finally dropped the MV for his single “I’m Good“. We first the the track in 2009, and have seen previews of the video since the first half of last year so was it worth the wait? Well we already knew what the track sounded like, so for better or worse the video is a perfect fit for the song… and I’ll leave it to you decide whether that’s a good thing. What’s even more interesting is that his label paid for the video to be featured on the front page of WSHH. Hopefully its a move that pays off. Get the song here.

Crown J Reportedly Charged for Marijuana Possession

In a disappointing (but admittedly not completely surprising) turn of events, KPOP/aspiring US rapper Crown J has reportedly been charged with possession of marijuana. Supposedly he’s being questioned so that authorities can learn more about his sources, whom he’s been buying from at least as early as May of this year.

Now I’ll be the first to say I’m not exactly a Crown J fan, but this is still an unfortunate set back for the musician. What is also interesting is the fact that authorities are pressuring him for information. This leaves me to wonder if he’ll “snitch” and cooperate with authorities to help speed along and minimize the legal consequences there by losing the hip-hop/street cred he so desperately desires and has been building up; or will he stay quiet, taking on the ramifications head on despite their effects on his career but lose the affirmation of his “peers”?

Whatever happens, my distaste for his “music” aside, I hope he can find the best resolution to the matter.

Crown J Releases More Footage from Making of “I’m Good” MV

It’s been almost 6 months since the last preview, but Korean import has got some more footage to share from the shoot for his music video for the song “I’m Good” featuring Young Dro. After all this time I still can’t say the song has really grown on me but it looks like they going in real official for this music video. Although it seems to have been in the making forever. I’m honestly not sure what to expect, especially with the scenes of Crown sporting the bandanna on his face. But I’ll wait till the final product to make any judgements.

Crown J Interview w/ Blackvibes

Korean import southern rapper Crown J recently had his first American interview with Blackvibes. They talk a lot about the differences between the US and South Korean music industries, what he’s tryna accomplish in the states, and what to expect from his upcoming singles and music video. The audio quality is borderline terrible but it’s still decipherable.

In my opinion he makes a couple statements that gave off the impression that he’s more influential as a musician in Korea than he actually is but besides that it’s a pretty decent look into who is J.

Crown J Releases Behind the Scenes Footage for “I’m Good” MV

It looks like Crown J and company is about to start a big marketing push for his US single “I’m Good“, produced by Lee Hyun Do. They’ve just released the behind the scenes making of footage for the music video which likely means it will drop in the near future. It’s just a bunch of shots of them doing their things around town, shopping, rapping, sight seeing. Hopefully they’ll be doing something fresh with this video but I imagine they’ll play it safe.

Crown J Leaks New Single “Baby By Me” Remix feat Big Kuntry King

Crown J wants to show the world he’s still on his grind and has leaked a new remix to ‘Baby By Me’ originally by 50 Cent x Ne-Yo. I can’t hate his beat selection since the original was hittin’ but maybe I’m being harsh but I thought Crown’s part was kinda weak. On the other hand Big Kuntry King had that geniune country swag and added some flava to the track.

I’m kinda lukewarm to this one. But that’s just me. What do you guys think?

Crown J Releases Preview of “I’m Good” ft Young Dro

We reported earlier this year that Crown J had plans to break into the US industry and it looks like he’s another step closer to his official debut with the US version of his single “I’m Good”. What we’ve now learned is the Korean MC has enlisted the help of Young Dro to feature on the track, you can check the preview teaser below.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the original Korean single, and that hasn’t changed with this US version. While the beat’s catchy Crown J comes off as a bit cheesy and unauthentic. But hey that’s just me. Do you think he has what it takes? Or will this be another instance of a single that gets very mild attention before vanishing into obscurity? *cough* Se7en *cough*

In all seriousness though, we wish him the best.

Crown J footage from NY Concert released

AllKPop has posted performance footage from Crown J‘s recent event in NY.

I can’t believe he “made it rain” haha.

Was it just me or was that a very mild event? Compare his footage with that of the Epik High/FM concert (which I believe is at the same venue) a few months back and the difference is like night and day. I guess Crown J hasn’t quite developed the appeal and stage presence of the artists on the Map the Soul tour.

Oh well, at least it didn’t look like a total flop but it didn’t  look like the can-not-miss event it was made out to be either.

Crown J x Lee Hyun Do collab for US Debut

SRadioClub is reporting that Crown J is teaming up with Lee Hyun Do, former member of the legendary KPOP group Deux, for a new upcoming US single. Lee Hyun Do will provide the production as CJ tackles the mic.

I’m kind of curious how this will turn out. Crown J is very hit or miss with me. For some reason I feel like he’s acting too much sometimes. Regardless, I’m always willing to hear some good music so hopefully this will turn out to be a great match.
