D-Pryde Featured in XXL (February/March)

D-Pryde has found himself gracing the pages of the national Hip-Hop magazine publication, XXL. But this time, the young MC has been given the upgrade treatment, where he’s progressed from the short blurb of last time to a small article in Show & Prove. He posted the above image on various social networks with the following statement:

From being in a tiny section of “The Break”, to having my own article for the “Show & Prove” section in XXL Magazine. Progression will always be key. Thank you to everybody who has lifted me up to here, even the people who’ve never believed. I don’t live in forgiveness but I live in acceptance.

I’m here because of my talent of course, and I do care about myself. But at the end of the day my people, my fans, and my family brought me here and I’ll never lose way of that…This means more to me than you think. It’s not the end though.

I might not have much money to spend around but I have a pack of misunderstood kids I call fans, my family, my team, and my girl. S’all I need.

Thank you…I’m way too happy right now.

Posted in front of SONNY’S! I’m so Brampton it’s a DAMN SHAME!

NEXT UP, THE COVER!

The kid is makings moves, and I respect that. Let’s hope he does make it on to the cover!

The Hip-Hop Youtube Round-Up 1/15/2012

Wow, we are 15 days into the new year already. Well, as I promised last time, this round-up is all things strictly rap. I don’t believe any of the featured videos in this collection are newcomers but there’s a surprise or two in the bunch, just make sure to check em all out. There’s enough Hip-Hop bars here for everyone to enjoy.

Two Cents: GT’s Top 10 MVs from 2011 (and 10 Honorable Mentions)

2011 was a banner year in the world of Asian-American music. We saw more releases than ever, more artists achieving more mainstream success, and more fans across more ethnic backgrounds recognizing the great music by our artists. But along with more of the good comes more of the bad – with there also being an influx in mediocre music, an increase in hate and bigotry (check Youtube comments) and even more pressure to try and stand out. That’s why I wanted to look back on the past year and choose what I consider to be my top 10 favorite music videos from 2011. Now this doesn’t mean that these are the MVs with the top production values (although this is often the case), but rather it’s a reflection of what I found to be the most well executed, balanced, and entertaining visuals. On the very last page we also have a list of 10 honorable mentions that I thought deserved to be recognized as well.

So without futher ado let’s jump straight into number 10…

10. IAMMEDIC – “Spaceship” (article)

Electronica-Pop group IAMMEDIC took the concept of their song “Spaceship” to the max by injecting a silly Star Trek inspired motif and alien abduction. The video is fun, looks great, and represents the high energy of the audio perfectly. Deep? Not so much, but fun and well executed? Very much so.

Directors/Cinematographers/ Dan Fisher and Ed Park
Produced by Joe Park and IAMMEDIC
Edited by Steve Arcenio
Visual Effects – Ed Park and Derrick Lee
3D Model by Daniel Harris

D-Pryde Features for Boogz Boogetz on “Bow Down”

The kid Prizzy seems to himself in the company of like-minded young artists, and that’s a good thing because it means he’s constantly on his grind and collaborating with a number of folks. One of his more recent features was for Boogz Boogetz on the track “Bow Down”, off the mixtape Flyer Learning. It’s a upbeat, current track that will appeal more to some than others. Take a listen in the clip below.

D-Pryde Premieres the “Priorities” MV (Directed by Rik Cordero)

I’m always a fan of concept videos, and the latest combination of D-Pryde and Rik Cordero on the audio and visuals respectively yields a fresh take on the rap battle. Interestingly enough, the entire production is actually an extended commercial for Pryde’s new snapbacks – available from his online store. You honestly can’t go wrong on the video front when you got Cordero in your camp.

D-Pryde Unveils The “Wings Up” MV

“Wings Up” is the latest video from D-Pryde, where the young rapper takes a hand held camera and goes nuts for a few minutes. The visuals are a bit seizure-inducing, but once you get past that you realize it’s a pretty decent rap track. Be on the lookout for more activity from Pryde, it really seems like his career is about to jump off in a big way. The kid has accomplished a lot in just a few short years.

D-Pryde Features for Andrew Garcia on “Star”

Word has reached us that D-Pryde has a little guest spot for Andrew Garcia, the Youtube star who tried his luck with a run on American Idol a couple seasons ago. The song is called “Star” and is Garcia’s latest single, also featuring Seven. I haven’t had the chance to hear it myself yet but on paper this sounds like an intriguing collab. Hopefully it sees a release outside of the iTunes universe but for right now you can get it through the fruit sponsored mp3 store.

D-Pryde Drops the “Ready To Go” MV

Here’s a new video drop from the kid D-Pryde. The song is off his Mars Mixtape from earlier in the Summer, and makes use of a very familiar sample from Journey. Both the song and video are classic D-Pryde, full of catchy and fun energy. Still kind of startling to look back and realize the dude started rapping remixes in-front of a webcam. Check out the MV below!
