David Choi Discusses SOPA, Crying, and Being Labeled a Youtube Star with OC Weekly

There’s a new David Choi interview out by OC Weekly, where they go into topics like his Youtube status, writing emotional music, family and more. It’s actually a rather brief read, so if you have even the mildest of interests in the singer/song writer, then be sure to check it out in full. With three albums and several nationwide tours under his belt, it’s kind of awe-inspiring to reflect on what the singer has accomplished – and it all started with the posting of covers from his bedroom webcam.

Passport: David Choi’s “So Weightless” Placed in Korean Movie – Dancing Queen

South Korean media has used David Choi‘s music in the past, sometimes legally and sometimes illegally but luckily news of the latest placement appears to be of the former category. Mr Choi‘s song “So Weightless”, from his sophomore album By My Side has been featured in the film  “Dancing Queen” (댄싱퀸), that opened a couple weeks back. If you got some sharp ears, you should be able to hear the song play during a cafe scene. Below is what you should be listening for.

The “I Won’t Give Up” Youtube Cover Round-Up – 1/19/12

Normally we’d hold a showdown when so many artists cover the same song, but everyone involved this time around has been in the ring many times before, so we figured we’d hold off for this one. The song of the hour seems to be “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz, and I can understand why – it’s a heartfelt tune from a beloved artist who hasn’t had new material in a while. So, the question is how do some of our artists compare? I’ll let you form your own opinion but my favorite of the bunch is easily Clara’s rendition. Switching from guitar to piano was a brilliant move.

David Choi Tries His Hand at Dubstep with “Knives in Your Ears”

DC is one those musicians who producers, mixes, writes, sings, and pretty much does it all. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he would dabble with other genres of music – a perfect example being his attempt at a little dubstep – the delicately titled “Knives in Your Ears”. It’s a little rough around the edges, though it’s a fair first attempt.  I doubt he’ll be steering too far from the singer/songwriter lane anytime soon though.

afterschoolspecial x The Dreamlapse Project Debut MV for “Dreamers”

Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.

Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. David Choi Shooting MV for “Missing Piece” with Ellen Wong & Directed by Ross Ching

It’s been unveiled that David Choi is in the process of shooting the music video for “Missing Piece” off his most recent album Forever and Ever. What is especially interesting is that Ellen Wong (Knives Chau from Scott Pilgrim) is starring and the project is directed by Ross Ching (directed for Kina, Clara C, AJ, etc). We can’t wait to see the final cut when it drops!
