Just ‘Cause: Cathy Nguyen x David Choi x WongFu & More Present “The Allergy”

31 Aug

For the 2nd day in a row we have another “Just ‘Cause” feature involving WongFu. Well this one also has a few other of our favorite musicians, namely Cathy Nguyen & David Choi and they bring you an anti smoking PSA. I gotta tell you, it’s friggn hilarious. It takes a lot to make me LOL but I truly did. It’s the same type of funny, uncomfortable, awkward laughter that I get from watching the Office. Without further ado, enjoy “The Allergy”.

David Choi x Auburn Mash Up “That Girl” & “La La La”

11 Aug

David Choi is no stranger to online social media and neither is his latest collaboration partner Auburn, who has used such tools to her advantage to become a signed artist. The two have joined forces and mashed up each other’s songs, “That Girl” and “La La La” respectively. It’s a cool acoustic urban sound that comes off as a pretty fresh listen. Not bad at all.

David Choi Sings “You Can Win”

4 Aug

It’s been a little while since David put up an original (solo) song on Youtube for us to share but today he’s uploaded a video of his single “You Can Win” off his album By My Side (available at Amazon)released earlier this year. It’s a decent acoustic song, and perhaps one of the slightly more memorable songs off that release. The song’s got a little bit of a melancholy feel.

Wong Fu x KevJumba x David Choi Release MV for “Dance to This Song”

3 Aug

You can’t take everything in life too seriously, even music: and this video is the perfect example of what I mean. Back in April Wong Fu, KevJumba & David Choi dropped a new single entitled “Dance to This Song” that goes all out just because they can. It’s a nod to every Pop song element currently big in musical trends today. It’s ridiculous, silly, even stupid but still 100% enjoyable (kind of like Steve Carrell). Even crazier are the cameos in this MV including FM, Kinna Grannis and Victor of Quest Crew. Even import model Jeri Lee comes through haha.

The track is still available on Amazon and iTunes so don’t miss out!

Lyrics & behind the scenes footage after the break.

David Choi x Paul Dateh Get Classical (and Violent)

26 Jul

Every now and then a musician will post up a throwback cover on Youtube but not to often do you see them take it back to the 1700′s. David Choi and Paul Dateh decided to do just that with a little violin action where the play “Concerto in D Minor”, made famous by Sebastian Bach. The two had difficulty keeping a straight face but it makes for an entertaining watch. Though not perfect it’s cool to see people pay homage to the classics.

As a bonus, check after the break where the two get involved in a little violin showdown.

Legaci, David Choi, Cathy Nguyen, Gabe Bondoc & More Featured on Local NBC News Segment

19 Jul

Bay Area NBC Affiliate did a feature news segment on the proliferation of Asian-Americans on Youtube. Artists such as Legaci, Cathy Nguyen, David Choi, Gabe Bondoc, and Sam Tsui were all mentioned along with the more successful Apl.de.ap and Chad Hugo. Although I understand the point they were trying to get across, some of the commentary bothered me a little bit. Especially the comment “… but their look isn’t quite as mainstream” when discussing Legaci’s cover of Justin Bieber w/ Cathy and Traphik. They look as mainstream as anyone else. Hoodies and jeans… but I guess that is nullified just cause they are Asian huh?

Any, I’m still glad to see everyone mentioned get just a little more shine on a bigger platform!

David Choi Releases Cover Album

12 Jul

In a surprising turn of events, David Choi has released another album just months after the release of By My Side, only this isn’t a collection of original songs. Rather this album release is a set of covers that he’s released on Youtube and now officially available for download via iTunes. It’s nice to see David pay homage to the platform that has brought him immeasurable exposure and arguably some of his most recognizable music. If watching him cover artists like Lady Gaga, Usher, Jason Mraz and more isn’t enough, you can now put him on your own personal playlists.
