David Choi Releases ‘Better You’

‘Better You’ is a single off the upcoming sophomore album by David Choi. My initial impression is pretty favorable. It didn’t quite blow me away but it’s catchy and fun enough that I expect it to grow on me with every listen. Hopefully the studio version will retain the same likeable qualities.

Lyrics after the break.

David Choi Covers ‘Hey Soul Sister’ by Train

David’s back with another cover, and in his signature layered video style he sings the new single from Train called ‘Hey Sould Sister’. As always David does an awesome job. I really enjoy when musicians do things like this and seeing/hearing the different sounds they use to create the final product.

I’m glad Train came out with a new single! I fell in love with Train when I first heard “Calling All the Angels” years ago.

I shot the video footage on iMovie and dumped it into Adobe Premiere to get the “box effect”. I first shot video/audio of myself in the black shirt and guitar and added more parts as I went along. Usually, I would practice all the parts a few times before I actually recorded, but this video was all one take after the other which is why it sounds a little messy. I don’t mind though! :)

Showdown: JR Aquino x AJ Rafael x Andrew Garcia vs David Choi vs Mike Isberto vs Legaci vs Victor Kim vs Olivia Thai x Jason Chen vs BLYSS

So IYAZ’s “Replay” seems to be one of the most covered songs recently. I can’t blame em, it’s a catchy fresh song and isn’t too difficult to flip. So this edition of Showdown we have a very special line up that’s shaping up to be a battle royale. Without further ado let’s bring on the main event.

JR Aquino x AJ Rafael x Andrew Garcia

David Choi

Mike Isberto

Legaci x Summerbreeze

Victor Kim

Olivia Thai x Jason Chen

BLYSS (3 out of 4)

With so many choices it may be hard to choose a favorite but my vote goes to Legaci x Summerbreeze. They were just too smooth. What about YOU!?

New David Choi Single – ‘That Girl’ Now Available

David Choi’s latest single ‘That Girl’ is officially available via digital download. You can head on over to iTunes or my preferred mp3 store of choice, Amazon, to get it. David first shared this song on Youtube nearly 3 years ago which you can watch below.

So what can you expect from the official single now that it’s finally out? It’s much more polished. Obviously since this isnt a one time take via youtube, the production values are much richer and the instrumentation/arrangement is more thorough.

I’m feeling this single a lot more compared to many of the songs from this debut album, ‘Only You‘. There’s just a little more energy and thats a good thing because its something some his official recordings could use.

David Choi Parodies Ke$ha

I you’re a fan of top 40 radio you may have heard a recent song called ‘Tik Tok’… if not then you’d at least probably heard her singing the hook on Flo Rida’s hit ‘Right Round’. Well regardless, she’s somehow inspired David Choi (allong with MysteryGuitarMan) to make a parody song of ‘Tik Tok’. It’s in David’s trademark goofy style and to be quite frank I may like this version more than the original (I was never really a fan).

David Choi Releases New Single “We’ll Make It Last All Afternoon”

David Choi’s back with a new single entitled “We’ll Make It Last All Afternoon”. It’s a real cheery, feel good number. It may be a little too happy for some. It’s seriously all sunshines and rainbows. It’s almost like the theme to some 90’s family show. I like it… for now… I can see myself getting sick of it though haha.

What do you guys think?

CNN x AAM Present ‘Five rising Asian-American Stars to Watch’

Check out this blog on CNN asking AAM who he considers as the top 5 Asian American acts to be on the lookout for. The Far East Movement, David Choi & WongFu, all made the list! It’s incredible considering they have all worked together in the past on videos and events such as ISA. I guess talent rolls w/ like company!

“I think that most people who know me know that I’m pretty reasonable, chill… and a not so angry a guy.” That sounds funny coming from a guy who calls his blog angryasianman.com. “I adopted the name Angry Asian Man for the website because it’s very provocative, and it’s very in your face,” he says.

And although he writes with anger when Hollywood stereotypes Asian-Americans, he also writes with joy about the up-and-coming entertainers from that community who could breakthrough to big time success someday. We asked him to pick five who may do just that.

If they do, remember, you heard it here first!

1. Far East Movement “I can’t stop listening to the single, “Girls On The Dance Floor” by FarEast Movement, otherwise known as FM. It’s just the greatest, coolest dance track and everytime it’s on, I just turn it up. So, FarEast Movement are definitely guys to watch in hip hop.”

2. David Choi “A guy I really like is a guy named David Choi on YouTube who is just creating really fun, creative, quirky songs. It’s funny because he started off as a songwriter and he hasn’t really done much live performing and now that his music is sort of taking off and he’s gotten fans through YouTube, he’s become much more of like a legit musician, playing, and actual shows and stuff like that.”

3. Brenda Song “For the Disney generation, there’s certainly Brenda Song, who started on the show “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody.” I think in a place like Disney, which has such a huge impact on popular culture, especially among the younger generation that’s just coming up, someone like Brenda Song, who is just being a really cute, funny, and engaging actress in TV shows and movies is going to really show that Asian Americans have a a place in mainstream media and kids are going to be able to see “Oh, look, there’s a really appealing, normal Asian-American person on TV.”

4. Aaron Yoo “I really like an actor named Aaron Yoo. He was in ‘Friday the 13th,’ ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ and a bunch of other stuff. He’s just like a regular dude, who’s in these, smaller roles up ’til now, but I think audiences really like him. He was in the movie ‘Disturbia’, which opened a couple years ago at number one at the box office. But I remember the week after that movie came out, I got all these hits on my website from people searching for Aaron Yoo, and people wanting to know who this guy was and what he was all about and searching for photos of him. I think he’s definitely a guy to watch in Hollywood.”

5. Wong Fu Productions [The trio of 20-something film-makers creates short movies that have developed a sizable cult following on YouTube.] “The really cool thing about their story is they are just friends who started making videos for fun, and then it caught on. I think a lot of people see themselves reflected in the Wong Fu guys. You know, it’s like, ‘Hey! these guys are just having fun and doing their thing” and so, I think it really relates to that young, energetic, hip sensibility where they’re having fun and they’re showing everybody what they’re doing.”
