The International Covers Youtube Round-Up – 5/15/12

As a nod to our fans from various nations abroad, we’ve put together yet another collection of international themed covers and remixes. Most are covers of songs from Asian Pop markets, with a couple translated tunes thrown in for good measure. Go ahead and have your pick at the batch, there’s bound to be a listen or two that will catch your fancy.

David So x Paul Kim x Jason Chen x Travis Graham Form The Runs

DANG. OK, I know we don’t really post about a single cover anymore, usually grouping them together in our round-ups instead, but this is one that SHOULD not go unnoticed. David So, together with Paul Kim, Jason Chen & Travis Graham (of New Heights), have formed an unofficial group known as ‘The Runs’ (Check below for the reasoning behind the name). The four of them tackle the classic Boyz II Men song, “On Bended Knee” and they kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllt it. Slayed. Destroyed. Annihilated. If you’re a Youtube star, this song is now off limits because you’re not gonna top this.

This is the most random thing that we decided to do. We are the RUNS cause our music will make you shit yourself? LOL!

David So Has a Heart to Heart with Clara C

David So continues his comedic interview series that kicked off the other week with Jayesslee, with this next installment featuring Clara C. For those seeing these ‘Heart to Heart’ clips for the first time, keep in mind this is all more for the laughs than anything else – and thus far, has always been scripted. Although I can’t lie and say I wouldn’t like to see David So go off on a Borat like tangent with some of our favorite stars.

David So “Interviews” Jayesslee

Comedian/Singer David So is kicking off a new Youtube series called Heart to Heart, where he accosts interviews some of his fellow Youtube stars. In the first episode, he sits down with the sisterly duo affectionately known as Jayesslee. It’s definitely more of a comedy short than an actual interview session – so don’t expect to learn much but I have to admit – it’s wildly entertaining.

David:Feel this right here, what’s this made of?
Sonia: Cott
David: [interrupting Sonia] BOYFRIEND MATERIAL

HAHAHAHAHA. Epic.

Just ‘Cause: See the Trailer to UPLOADED: The Asian American Movement

In July of last year, we shared with you a documentary that was in the works called Uploaded: The Asian American Movement. Now, all these months later, the film is complete and ready for it’s premiere at the Los Angeles Pan Asian Pacific Film Festival. You can now view the trailer, which gives us a look at all the interviews and the overlying focus of this film – a movement that is near and dear to our hearts at a-Tunes. Check out all the additional information after the break, and if you’re in LA, don’t miss the premiere on May 16th!

Why? Just ‘Cause.

L to R: David So, Clara Chung, Jayesslee, Cathy Nguyen, Travis (of New Heights), Joseph Vincent

As much as I like the East Coast, sometimes I have to admit that the West is wear a lot of great moments happen. Like the above group shot where a lot of favorite artists of yours and mine all crossed paths at a recent event, bringing together so many people under one roof. I think we’ll look back at times like these and recognize that it was the community that empowered our artists to find an international platform. We can only hope this is the beginning for the likes of David So, Clara Chung, Jayesslee, Cathy Nguyen, Travis & New Heights, and Joseph Vincent.

Say Cheese!

New Heights Work with David So on New Comedy Short

I’ll readily admit I’m a bug fan of David So‘s brand of comedy (and music). In his latest short, he stars in the role of the character Kim Jong Illah, where he takes a step into the world of Pop-Rock by working with the band New Heights. This is faux documentary time, similar in style to The Office or Parks & Recreation. Wait for a ridiculous rendition of “Take Me On” at the end, where David So sings in character.

The Youtube Collab Round-Up – 1/31/12

We figured why not end the last day of the first month with a new batch of Youtube covers. This round-up is another sampling platter of collaborations among different artists. There’s a lot of acoustic music in this particular grouping, with one particular exception. As always, the production qualities vary wildly but there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

The Stringed-Instruments Youtube Round-Up – 1/12/12

OK, you may want to get some popcorn because this round-up is gigantic. How does a baker’s dozen worth of cover videos, all featuring a stringed instrument, sound? The vast majority of these videos are guitar driven but we have a couple surprises in there including a violin and a mandolin. Yea… we went there. So get your fill of the unplugged variety because the next round-up is going to be a little more Hippity Hoppity related.

JK Films x Jason Chen x David So Debut the “Christmas Love” MV

JK Films have picked back up with their Lonely Island-esque brand of comedic music videos again, with the release of “Christmas Love” featuring fellow laugh-maker David So and Jason Chen. It’s a zany, borderline ludicrous holiday-inspired song and visual – but what else did you expect from this troupe? If you’d like to add this to your MP3 collection you can purchase the song from Bandcamp for an easy buck. Check the BTS footage after the break!
