As a nod to our fans from various nations abroad, we’ve put together yet another collection of international themed covers and remixes. Most are covers of songs from Asian Pop markets, with a couple translated tunes thrown in for good measure. Go ahead and have your pick at the batch, there’s bound to be a listen or two that will catch your fancy.
Welcome to another remix/round-up! This time around, we are revisiting an international theme with all of the songs either remixes/covers/translations of Asian songs, or in one particular case, an English song sung in Chinese. It’s a pretty big melting pot of culture and languages – but that’s fairly representative of the world we live in. Go ahead and take a gander, I’m sure you’ll find something you enjoy in this collection!
We decided to go international with this round-up. Each of these songs are from Asian countries and covered by some of your favorite stateside artists. K-Pop? J-Pop? C-Pop? It’s all here, plus multiple genres are represented too – so you get double the variety. 1 Million Bonus points if you can understand every word sung in these songs!
Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.
Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. Another important note is this video is that NONE of this would be possible without the backing and work of afterschoolspecial who need their due credit- Jaylen Green, Keane Aranita, Todd Olson, Brian Figueroa, and Victor Velasquez.

This is first Youtube round up for November and we decided to keep you all warm with a collection of duet videos. Welcome to Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.
Bruno Mars has been something of a guaranteed hit-maker, and his newest single “It Will Rain” from the upcoming Twilight movie doesn’t seem to be any different. Which probably explains why so many artists are covering it. In fact we have a four-way battle this time around, in an event some are proclaiming as three guys, a girl, and a Bruno song. OK, no one calls it that but bare with me. Jason Chen, Dawen, Joseph Vincent, and Cilla Chan all decided to tackle the song, but only one can win the showdown and walk away with 1,000,000 a-Tunes points… which are completely worthless, by the way.
All four artists have a sizeable presence/following on Youtube, some big than others but their executions of the song are all similar so it comes down to the details for this one. After a close listen do you favor Jason’s poppy vocals? How about Dawen’s unique phrasing? JV’s clean and cool singing style? Or does Cilla’s touch of soulful runs? Cast your vote now!

So the East Coast, mid-Atlantic folks such as myself have Kollaboration DC to look forward to this weekend but you SoCal folks near the Pacific definitely won’t be in want either. San Diego will be the home to a mega concert festival where the San Diego Asian Music Festival will see it’s official launch including a gigantic line-up of artists. The billing includes Jesse Barrera, Jennifer Chung, Dawen, Feats in Inches, Sam Kang, Abraham Lim, Jane Lui, Nylon Pink, Shin-B, The Slants, Toestah, Lindsey Yung and so much more. So if you’re anywhere near “America’s Finest City”, I suggest you make plans to stop by Market Creek Plaza for an entire day of awesome music entertainment. Check after the break or the AMP Music Festival website for more information.
